Work Text:
So far the end of the world has been awful. (As one might assume) There's people burning up in the sun and others are becoming so paranoid they end up killing innocent people in cold blood.
But here?
Here it is warm, and safe, and just the right distraction I needed during a time like this.
I don't have that big of a bed, and the tv is far away but somehow we all manage to fit when we're this close together.
Luka is behind me, I'm in between his legs watching the news reporter calmly proclaim another sign of what they call “visitors”.
Thankfully I'd never seen one up close; only from my window as they roam the streets, unaffected by the sun.
Levani is to my right, rambling about something I don't quite understand because I'm just.. Far away. Watching us from a third person perspective, soaking in the moment. And I can feel him stroking my hand every once in a while, just to make sure I'm grounded and paying attention.
Stesha is at the foot of the bed, curled up in a ball hugging himself as he shivers. I offered for him to get closer to me, but I think the thought of that scared him a little. He simply turned towards the tv and chose to wallow in his suffering. Still, I somehow managed to find it endearing.
And lastly Ivano is to my left, empty eye sockets pointing to the ceiling, reaching out his arms as he feels the air. His somewhat long hair is fanned out about his head and I can't help but think he's beautiful. Beautiful in a tragic way. Like deep down I know he'll just be a memory soon enough. It aches, but it makes me appreciate the time I have with him more.
I guess we're all a little distracted, and it's good. It's almost like a personal heaven within the hellscape outside. Being surrounded by those I love is all I need.
