Behind the Scenes

Summary:

Aether could only look at his two co-stars with dread pooling in his stomach. At some point, the flirting just goes from cute, to obnoxious, to downright nauseous and Aether has just sat through all three stages within a period of four to five months…

He really should’ve never kicked things off between the two.

Chapter Text

“Okay, let’s go ask some of our other friends, then!”

"…and cut!” The director yells into his megaphone while the bell for a break rings. “Alright everyone, that’s a wrap for today!”

Shouts of clean up and chatters of excitement ring throughout the studio. Assistants and managers alike immediately made their way over to the actors who were still on set while carrying armfuls of towels and bottles of water. However, there was one actor who chuckled to himself, making a slow walk towards the blond figure seated on the ground.

“It couldn’t have hurt that much, could it?” Flins squatted down, his gaze becoming equal to the man in front of him.

The man… who was too busy chugging his water to even respond.

Flins merely waited patiently, leaning his head into his arms as he watched the blond man finish his water, the liquid dripping down onto his shirt. Flins’ eyes followed the trail of water, the droplets landing on the fabric of the black shirt, and slowly leaking more towards his-

“Has anyone ever told you it’s rude to stare?”

Though caught off guard, Flins did not immediately snap to attention, instead choosing to languidly gaze at the blond-haired man. The man smirked as they made eye-contact, his eyebrow raising in question as Flins could only pretend to be calm and collected, as if he hadn’t been caught staring right at his chest.

A cool smile rises on Flins’ face. “Since when did I ever stare, Mr. Varka?” A challenge.

One beat. Two beats. Varka opens his mouth.

“When have you not, Mr. Flins?”

The two watch each other, the both of them slowly feeling a rising tension as they refuse to break eye contact with another.

Though their staring competition was interrupted as they heard the clear of a throat coming from beside them.

“If you guys are done…” Aether deadpanned while pointing to the staff members who were waffling around nervously a few metres away, “you’re troubling the crew.”

Instantly, Aether pulls the two of them up before pushing, moving them out of the way while yelling out apologies to the crew who could only bow and nod their heads in gratitude. He rolls his eyes at the two men in front of him; both were giving him the same look of amusement.

Aether sighs. “If you’re gonna flirt,” he starts, rubbing his head with his fingers, he could feel a headache coming on. “Can you guys at least try to-”

He looks up, a grimace on his face as he can tell the two men are too busy staring at each other with whatever they have going on. Aether rolled his eyes again, stalking off back to his trailer while muttering under his breath about how they “shouldn’t be flirting right in front of his goddamn salad.”

Flins glanced at Aether’s exit from the corner of his eye, turning his attention back to Varka instantly as the man leaned in further into Flins’ face.

Flins smiled, mirth collecting in his eyes. “Now now, Mr. Varka.” His gloved hand inches towards Varka’s own, though he leaves only featherlight touches, not wanting to give this man anything just yet. “What are you doing all up in my space?”

He could hear Varka take in a deep breath through his nose. Whether in irritation or want, that was something only Varka himself knew.

However, Flins suspected it was most definitely the latter, especially with the way he could see Varka leisurely ghosting his fingers over Flins’ own, linking two of their fingers together before rubbing minuscule and gentle circles with his index.

Though he could hardly feel Varka’s touch through his glove, Flins shivered at the smouldering look Varka was giving him. His eyes half-lidded, a lazy smirk on his chiseled face, and the occasional glance down to the actions he was doing to Flins’ hand – just to draw further attention to it.

“Hm, I don’t know…” Varka muses. “Maybe I’m just trying to work up the courage to ask this man I know to dinner tonight.”

“Oh? Just who might that man be?”

“Wouldn’t you like to know?”

Flins could feel his glove slipping off. “Only if you’re willing to share.”

“My dinner plans, or…?”  a plop against the floor, and the warmth of another hand on his own. “The man I’m asking?”

“I would love to know what your plans are,” Flins asserted coquettishly, his own hand slowly intertwining with Varka’s.

A twitch.

Got him.

“Well, I was thinking that fancy joint just down from his place,” Varka pauses before grinning with his bare teeth, “I heard the sommelier brought in a new vintage wine for a certain special dinner tonight.”

Now that has most definitely caught Flins’ attention.

“A new vintage wine, hmm?” Flins hums, working out his schedule for the rest of the day in his head. “Was it a special order?”

Varka laughed. “It definitely was, they wouldn’t bring it in otherwise.”

“Then…” Flins leans in further, his mouth barely ghosting over Varka’s own. “May I suggest you pick him up at his front door at oh, let’s say six-thirty?”

A pause, and in a moment’s notice, he felt his hand being lifted straight to Varka’s lips, the man leaving a soft peck on the back of his bare hand.

“Whatever time he wishes.” A tender whisper.

Flins chuckles, like the tinkling of a bell. “Then…” achingly, he lets go of Varka, “he’ll see you tonight.”

The two stare at each other for what felt like an eternity before Flins turned around and left the studio, his manager in tow as the latter joined up with him just as he reached the exit.

“Sir, your schedule is clear after this photoshoot.” His manager states. Flins pauses in surprise before he turning to his manager with a questioning look on his face. His manager only pushes up her glasses, a look of amusement forming behind her eyes. “Mr. Varka informed me of this… plan just last week.”

“Did he now.” Flins chortles. He really had to give it to Varka, the man was always one step ahead.

As he sat in the car towards the next destination, Flins closed his eyes and leaned against the window, his thoughts slowly drifting off to what he was going to wear to dinner tonight.

Once his gaze follows Flins out of sight, Varka proceeded to turn and head straight to his trailer while ignoring the looks he was getting from the people around him. He sees his manager staring at him at the entrance of the trailer, an exasperated look on his face.

“Must you do this every time…?” His manager could feel himself aging at every shoot; the two of them keep getting increasingly obvious as the days pass by.

Varka cheekily grinned, and his manager could only heave a sigh. “The restaurant called to confirm your reservation for tonight.” He follows behind Varka into the trailer, shutting the door behind him as Varka immediately started changing out of his costume. “I told them that the two of you will be there at eight sharp. Don’t get distracted.”

“‘Course not.” Varka grabs his jeans from the closet. “I made that special request. Would be a shame if we missed it.”

His manager only rolls his eyes in response. “I’ll get the car ready. Come out in fifteen.” His manager shuts the door, leaving Varka alone to stew in his thoughts and excitement. He felt his excitement growing more and more as he imagines the dinner the two of them will have tonight.

“Hopefully we won’t get too distracted.” Varka grins to himself as he leaves. Humming a tune as he thinks about what to wear for the night.

Bonus Scene:

Jahoda gaped as Varka walked out of the studio while humming a the Favonius Knights theme. As soon as he disappeared from everyone’s sight, almost everybody in the studio started screaming and shouting at each other.

“JUST WHAT WAS THAT?!” “WHY DO THEY KEEP DOING THIS???” “ALL I ASK IS FOR ONE DAY OF FILMING WITH NO SHENANIGANS…! JUST. ONE.”

Jahoda could only laugh nervously at the sight in front of her, Ineffa standing beside her as the two observed the utter chaos in the studio.

“…and to think that the two of them only met each other during the table read…” Ineffa spoke. Jahoda could only hum in agreement, it was most definitely… quick with the way the two of them went from hardly speaking to each other to downright flirting right in front of everybody else.

A voice chimed in. “I swear, the two of them do it on purpose.” Aether sighed tiredly, “maybe I should’ve never brought them out for those drinks…”

“Well…” Ineffa tilted her head, thinking carefully to herself. “Even if you didn’t, I’m sure the two of them would’ve gravitated towards each other eventually.”

Aether could only sigh in resignation as he watches Paimon screaming about the two men with Nicole and Lauma, the ladies just laughing at whatever Paimon was freaking out about.

...yeah… maybe they would’ve.
