In The Elevator

Summary:

A take on what would have happened had Rian Johnson let Kylo Ren kiss Rey in the elevator in The Last Jedi.

Notes:

First of all, I am very new to posting my writing online, and it means a lot to me. Please be gentle!!!!! If you don't like it, no hard feelings, you can scroll!! Don't harass me or my work please. I don't need that in my life. I write for pleasure and to bring joy to other like-minded fans, not to please people. Thanks!!! :)))

This is my take on what would have happened in this scene had Rian Johnson been smart and listened to Adam Driver when he said that Kylo would kiss Rey in this elevator. I can see both sides to this debate (Sort of affects buildup/ Kylo would definitely kiss Rey!!!), but I definitely think they could have compromised (i.e., Kylo leaning down to kiss her, then the lift doors open) in a way that would have suited both opinions. That being said, in this story I have portrayed that He kisses Her. Why not? Enjoy!

Work Text:

The lift doors shut and sealed, and the elevator ascended smoothly taking Rey and Kylo upwards into the heart of the flagship. Flashes of black sailed past the brightly lit windows, levels they were passing. Rey vaguely wondered what was on those floors, then she focused on where she was.
Kylo was silent beside her. His mind was twisting and turning, uncertainty and anger raged through the Force like a powerful storm, He was resolved in what he was doing, but not about other things.

"You don't have to do this," Rey said quietly. " I feel the conflict in you. Its tearing you apart".
She turned and found he was looking straight at her.

"Is that why you've come," He asked "To tell me about my conflict?"
It wasn't, and they both knew it.

"No". Rey said. Kylo's face fell.

"Ben".

He flinched at his real name and looked fixedly at her, eyes wide and questioning, his face soft and vulnerable. Rey saw she had his full attention, and she seized the chance to say what she had come to say.

"When we touched hands I saw your future. Just the shape of it, but solid and clear".

Kylo said nothing, and Rey continued hopefully.

"I have seen it. You will not bow before Snoke".

As she spoke, Rey stepped closer to Kylo, their eyes locked on one another, gazes unflinching. For a reason she could hardly fathom, Rey slowly looked at his lips, then looked up and found his eyes still trained on her.

"You'll turn".

She stepped closer again, close enough to touch him, and he didn't move away.

"I'll help you," She told him earnestly "I saw it".

Kylo stared at her, and Rey sensed something almost loosen and become hopeful inside of him.

"I saw something too". He told her.

Rey stood stunned, and Kylo kept speaking.

"And because of what I saw, I know when the moment comes, you will be the one to turn. You will stand with me".

Kylo paused, and Rey sensed there was something more to come.

"Rey," He said quietly, his eyes locked on hers. "I saw who your parents are".

Rey stared at Kylo, shock and wonder blending together in her mind. How could he know this? How could Kylo have seen who her parent were when she herself didn't even know? That's when the realization hit her. Kylo's turmoil wasn't just about himself. It was about her too.
Rey backed away from him slowly, but her eyes would not leave his. She almost couldn't bear to ask the question. And yet she couldn't bear not knowing.

"Who are they?" She asked slowly, dread seeping into her stomach.

Kylo took a small step towards her, and Rey's heartrate spiked with fear. She could feel he was hopeful in this moment, his breath short and fast, his eyes wide looking at her with an intensity she could hardly stand.

"They were people of no consequence, who had a very powerful daughter on a desolate planet. They needed to leave, but didn't have enough to get off world".

Kylo was very close now, his eyes fixed unwaveringly on hers. Rey felt fear rising in her throat and tried to resist the urge to press against the wall.

"So they sold her to get where they needed to go. And they never came back because they couldn't. No matter how much they may have wanted to".

Rey stared up at Kylo, tears in her eyes. Deep down, she knew this was true. Her worst fears had been confirmed. Her parents were gone. They hadn't come back for her because they simply could not. Her gaze fell from Kylo's, and she waited for the end.

"But she is not alone".

Rey looked up at Kylo. He was different all of a sudden, almost gentle. The waves of turmoil were quietened, and he was looking at her with softer eyes, hope gradually becoming stronger inside him. Something was different, and Rey took the chance offered her.

"Neither are you". She told him again, just as she had in her hut earlier. She stepped forward to meet him, and the closeness of it scared her, but not in the way she had imagined it would.

"Neither one of us is alone and we never have been. Those who love us are always close to us, Ben. They never stop caring for us. Never".

Rey took a shaky breath, and raised her cuffed hands to touch his face. Kylo froze in shock, his skin thrilling at her touch, hope soaring within him.

"Please come with me Ben". Rey pleaded softly. "We need your help to win this war. Leia needs you, I can see it. She wants you with her. Please come with me".

Kylo stared at her. Rey was completely open, letting him feel her thoughts in the Force. She was hoping beyond hope that he would see the feeling and reason in her plea, and come home to his mother and help the Resistance win the war. But it was also for herself that she was asking him this.
Kylo's throat was tight with hope, and his heart swelled with emotion as he asked;

"And you? What do you want?"

As he spoke, his hands went to Rey's waist and gently pulled her to him. Rey's breath seemed to flee her body and she couldn't speak. Kylo's face was so full of hope and feeling that she could hardly hold his gaze.

"I want you, Rey". He whispered.

Rey's face fell under the intensity of his look, her heart rate soaring till she was sure he could hear it. Tears resurfaced as his emotions towards her flowed into the Force, swirling around her like a song of tender feeling. What could she say? Since their first Force connection on Ahch To, her opinion of him had changed so drastically. She no longer saw him as a monster, a demon of the dark side. He was a man, with nuance and emotions. There was light in him, she could feel it now, and she found she was drawn to it. Drawn to him.
Her chest pounded with emotion as she whispered;

"I want you too".

She could not look at him, but she felt the intense happiness scream through the Force from Kylo as soon as she spoke the words. How could they move on from this moment? She didn't want to.
Suddenly she was aware that the elevator had stopped. She looked up at Kylo, and suddenly her cuffs were on the floor. Then Kylo's bare hand was against her cheek, and without warning his lips were on hers and he was kissing her, deeply and tenderly, emotion and feeling flowing through the Force like nothing Rey had ever felt before.
Her hands went to his face, and his arms went around her, melting into each other, holding tight, wishing that this moment would never end.
When they finally parted, Kylo's lips remained on Rey's forehead and she leant into him, eyes closed, hands around his neck, blissfully drinking in their shared emotions.
