Work Text:

The cold metal walls of her room echoed with Cyn’s loud, early morning chaos. Uzi was not a morning person. Realistically, Uzi was not a “waking up” person in general. Most mornings (or afternoons), she’d find N standing over her bed, or sitting next to her in it, too impatient to wait for her to wake up on her own.

She’d finally grown accustomed to Cyn constantly nagging her, even at night—although she could typically sleep through the early antics for at least a few hours. Unfortunately, this morning Cyn had chosen to be a real b***h, zipping around in whatever range of motion she had, playing whatever annoying song or internet sound effect she could think of.

Finally fed up, Uzi sat up, grabbed her tail, and shook it violently, ignoring Cyn’s monotone “Ow. Stop. Ouch. Please.” and narrated giggles.

After sitting on the edge of her bed for a few minutes contemplating if it was really worth getting up, Uzi finally stood and glanced at her clock: 9:24.

“Huh, N hasn’t come in here yet,” Uzi mumbled to herself before dragging her feet down the hall to N's room. Cyn still darted around like a fool, crashing into multiple walls, specifically Khan's room. Khan, Uzi's dad, was not someone she wanted to wake up accidentally.

“Cyn, you’re an a**hole,” Uzi murmured, barely loud enough for even herself to hear.

“Giggle,” Cyn said in reply. Uzi just rolled her eyes and stepped into N’s room.

From first glance, the room was a mess in a way she loved. A book was on the floor, open to a page filled with photos of golden retrievers and other dogs. Random gadgets and trinkets they’d found while out on adventures scattered the area, along with crumpled pieces of paper and drawings that could have been made by a three-year-old, which Uzi still loved collecting.

“Mental note,” she whispered to herself, “Collect the drawings that aren’t crumpled out of frustration later.”

N also had small plushies of a bat, which for some reason was currently missing, a golden retriever and a baby cow, a dedication to Uzi’s small obsession with them situated on a shelf above his bed, which Uzi climbed into.

Nestling into his arms, Uzi felt him pull her closer, alerting her that he was awake. She fit perfectly against him, curled up against his chest. With Cyn still making obnoxious noises, after a small flick of N’s tail, he stabbed Cyn, which immediately shut her up as she dropped to the bed, basically dead.

“Ow, N! I can still feel that you know!” Uzi exclaimed, not expecting that shock this early in the morning.

“But Uzi…” N whined, “She was being annoying! And you just got in here. I just wanted …utes…friend…be…upted…”

Half of his sentence became incomprehensible as he squeezed her tighter and buried his face into the back of her shirt. He was acting like a sad dog.

“No… this is too cute, I can’t melt within two minutes of being here!” Uzi thought, starting to blush.

From what Uzi could pull together, he was trying to say, “I just wanted 5 minutes with my girlfriend without being interrupted.”

Even though they had been "official" for a few months, Uzi still wasn’t used to the fact that she was N’s girlfriend. The thought of which increased the small amount of blush on her screen.

Uzi felt N hug her harder, most likely a non-verbal way of asking for a response.

“Bite me!” was all Uzi said.

He pulled his face away from her back, staring blankly at her before smiling and brightly replying with “Okay,” and began gently nibbling on Uzi’s shoulder, not enough to hurt her, but just enough to get a reaction from her.

“Oh! N!” she grumbled, visor glowing brighter. N just laughed as Uzi turned her face into N’s pillow, groaning, obviously irritated but not mad, actually quite the opposite. She would never admit it, though.

N’s screen displayed a subtle flush of his own, matching Uzi as he hid his face again, this time into the back of her neck.

Uzi sighed, rolling her eyes, but never complaining. The warmth radiating from N was comforting, and his gentle hold around her only made her melt into him more. Glancing to the corner of the bed, Uzi noticed the missing bat plushie partially tucked under the pillow.

“Oh, so that’s where it went.”

“Where what went?” Cyn piped up from the other end of the bed.

“Ugh! Cyn Shut up!” Uzi said irritation rising, but fixed when N nuzzled against her again.

The reply from Uzi had Cyn decide to get up again and continue with her rambunctious activities, receiving another stab from N’s tail.

“N! Will you stop doing that?!” Uzi said after flinching.

“She won’t shut up, and I wanna spend my time with you without dealing with her.”

“Yeah, but it still hurts!” Uzi laughed lightly, her body still slightly tensed from the secondary shock of pain.

N literally whimpered, and, if she was being entirely honest, Uzi had no idea why, though she did find it cute.

“He really is a sad dog,” Uzi thought with a small chuckle.

“Why you laughing…” N continued.

“Oh, uh, nothing.”

“She said you were a sad dog!” Cyn commented, dodging N’s attempt to stab her for a third time.

N whined again, “I’m sorry…”

“What is going on with you this morning?” Uzi asked, insanely confused.

The only thing she got from him was indistinct words she couldn’t understand in the slightest.

Uzi just sighed and changed the topic, “I’m surprised you haven’t gotten up yet. You’re always out of bed before 9:30,” she said, her voice slightly muffled by the pillow.

“Why would I need to get up? I’ve got what I need lying next to me!” he said happily.

“N…” Uzi grumbled again.

She always pretended she wasn’t scared, or stronger and more powerful than she truly was, but the simplest comments from N caused her to melt until she was basically just a puddle of oil and useless parts, whether she liked to admit it or not.

“What? You can’t tell me I’m wrong!”

Uzi wanted to reply, maybe with a sarcastic remark, but she didn’t have the energy. After being forced awake earlier than she would have liked, and the fact that she was still very much a puddle in N’s arms, a reply was not possible.

N finally sat up, pulling Uzi with him and putting his arms back. She responded with a half-whined “No… I wanna sleep…”

“We’ve gotta get up eventually!” N said with a dumb smirk.

He then proceeded to wrap his tail around both Uzi and himself. Uzi pretended to hate this action, yet it was clear it didn’t bother her as she tried moving closer towards N, even though there was almost no space left between them.

“The last time you did this, you managed to stab me with your tail,” Uzi managed to say through her embarrassment, which was caused by N’s actions, ones’ she would never ask him to stop doing.

“I know, but that only happened once…” N replied sarcastically, with a wave of his hand.

This prompted Uzi to grab his hand and place his arm back around her, only realizing what she had done after she had done it. With her realization, she buried her face into her hands.

“Aww, my girl refuses to admit she doesn’t hate this!” N laughed, a little too loud for Uzi’s preference, as he unwrapped his tail from around them, pulling her closer, and cradling her with one arm under her back, and one under her knees.

“Mmm… Bite me,” she mumbled in response.

Cyn had chosen to try and slowly move up off the bed again, but received a quick look from N and a warning flick of his tail, leading her to drop back to the bed after saying, “Sigh.”

Uzi had turned her face towards N’s chest, visibly trying to hide from the world, only jumping up, fully alert and awake when N said a cheerful “Hi, Uzi’s dad!”

She turned towards the door, no longer in N’s arms, to see her dad standing there just watching what was happening.

“Dang it! I forgot to close the door. So he had woken up, great job, Cyn…” Uzi thought to herself.

“You are welcome,” Cyn replied to her inner monologue.

“Ugh, Cyn! I hate you!” Uzi practically screamed,
grabbing her tail and attempting to strangle Cyn before remembering her dad was still standing at the door.

Uzi paused what she was doing. Freezing with Cyn still clutched in her hands, only releasing her when N had pulled her hands away, as she turned to look back up at her dad.

“Oh uhh, right, hi dad… How um, long have you been standing there?” Uzi wasn’t sure if he was just curious, or if he was judging N (or her), or if there was some other random motive for him to be there.

“Long enough,” was the only reply, tired to say the least, he gave her before walking away with his coffee cup in hand.

After Uzi was sure her dad was gone, she turned to crawl back into N’s arms. Unfortunately for her, he refused, saying, “Uzi, come on, we’ve gotta get up, we can’t stay in bed all day!”

“Yes, we can…” Uzi whined, clearly
disappointed.

Uzi honestly loved hearing N say her name, but even then, it wasn’t enough to convince her to leave the bed.

“One more hug at least?” She reluctantly asked, refusing to make eye contact with him, her screen once again glowing with a purple blush.

“Fine, but then we get up. Okay?” N said softly, waiting for her reply before once again gathering Uzi up in his arms. This time her arms were around his neck, hugging him back. Uzi had decided this would suffice for the time being, and she could get more attention from N later.

“Love you…” she murmured, hardly loud enough for N to hear.

N smiled, happy that Uzi was comfortable showing her vulnerability to him, even just in the one embrace, and choosing to return all the affection he gave her in one single moment.

He nuzzled into her hair before placing a soft kiss on the top of her head.

“I love you too, Uzi,” he whispered back into the messy purple hair. “Now c’mon, let’s go eat breakfast.”
