Work Text:
In a world conducted and evolved with Magic, there lies the five main races.
Humans, demons, beasts, half-bloods, and Unknowns. All unique and special in their own right.
Of course, humans are what we know them as. Normal human beings who, with the right resources and training, can obtain special abilities that make them unique to human kind. These humans are called “The Otherworldly,” humans who have bypassed the laws of nature that revolves around the life and very being of human kind. However, among The Otherworldly, there are rune using humans, who don’t have the same abilities as these ‘special’ humans, and instead use items to help in whatever way they can.
Very few humans are respected, as they are at the bottom of the food chain when it comes to the main races. Though, the few who are respected, usually come from long bloodlines of power, fame, riches and, of course, abilities and runes. The most pristege are usually those with a bloodline of healers or divines, the most sacred of the Otherworldy, and the only race who can heal and restore.
Demons, however, are some of the more feared out of this bunch of sentient life. Demons are smarter, stronger, faster, and they have much more magical potential. Some possessing the ability of flight, multi-perception which grants the user heightened senses times ten thousand, absorbers who absorb the power of an enemy, sucking them dry and, in some cases, due to loss of magic, whoever experiences this absorbtion of power, dies.
The lists of abilities this race has is endless, and in most cases, they seem almost unstoppable, all powerful, but they have two weaknesses.
Family.
Though demons can be perceived as evil or cruel, villanous even, the connection a demon has with those they care for, family, friends, even strangers who have shown kindness to them, can be the greatest obsticle in every day life. They have very similar mindsets to humans in a way, though they feel much, much more.
Beasts are a very different story though. Usually raised deep within the woods, blessed with magic surrounding all life, including plants, glowing glades fueled by magic, hollow hills that home beasts within, dryads, mushroom sprites, and, of course, primals, as every lifeform has magic within. You just have to unlock it. Which is how beasts have found their strengths. Within magic. Within spells and nature and all those around them.
Beasts have abilities far exceeding any rune using human or low level magic Otherworldly. Concealing magical control so it seems unstable and little, controlling elements and the manipulation of all the area around, depending how large each specific beasts’ magical circle is. The larger may not always be the best, though. As for, if you don’t know how to conceal magic, then the magical circle can be seen and the chances of your spell being disrupted are much higher.
Luckily, almost more than 77% of beasts aren’t stupid enough to forget this fact. If anything, they are the exact opposite, beast being the only race with an average IQ of 130 or more, beasts are the smartest of the smart, and take up most applicants of science, mathematics and tech jobs, medicine or health-related jobs such as neurosurgeons, pharmacologists, and psychologists and so, so many more. Most jobs that are required to have incredibly high IQ or GPA levels, are almost always taken up by beasts. And it’s not necessarily a bad thing, either. They know what they’re doing.
And now we have one of the last races on our list to go over.
Half bloods and pure bloods.
Though these are two names, they are one of the same race. A sub species of one and other you could say. However, they do have their differences.
Half bloods are a type of being with multiple different races mixed into one body. Demon, beast, maybe another beast-human half blood in the mix too. Anything, and there is probably a half blood of it. Though, depending on which race has the most blood mixed towards it, like lets say… someone’s parents are both demons but one of the parents mother or father is a beast. That would make the child a half blood with demonic genes. The more blood of whatever race there is in a being automatically takes over their genomes, appearance, whatever.
Now, pure bloods are much, much different.
If you heard the name “pure blood,” you would think someone who is a pure-born demon or a pure-born beast or something. Someone who only has 1 race for generations. However thats not the case. A pure blood is someone who has equal blood of 2 different races, giving the pure blood the abilities, characteristics and appearances as both races.
So, as you can imagine it, the horns of a demon while fuzzy ears perk up at sudden sounds. Demon-Beast half blood.
Some of these pure bloods can adorn the tail of a demon while fur and pointed ears are seen on the same body when both of the two different genes are exactly even, like just now with the example i had set. In a way, its race x + race y = race z, which is completely unique, different to the other races. But, just because it sounds… “cool” to be a pure blood, there are its downfalls. Of course, probably one of the most common ones, would be admiting the pros and cons of both genes. Whatever weakness is the parents, put those together and shove it in one body. Same goes for strengths.
Aside from all of the… pure blood, half blood talk, there is still… one last race. A race so mysterious, so unknown people just don’t know what they are, what they do, what to call them. Project Zero, originally. But that wasn’t for this unknown race. It was for a group of beings experimented on.
Long, long ago, back when demons were hated, back when beasts hadn’t been discovered and half-bloods hadn’t been created or thought of, humans were at the top of the food chain, humans were the all powerful. They controlled the narrative, destroyed hope, used the demons in ways that would land a death sentence in the modern years.
And through it all, there were two scientists.
Two scientists in love.
But they weren’t human. Atleast, not both of them.
Forbidden love, they called it. The demon woman and the human man. A sin even god couldn’t forgive, what others called it.
A beat of silence.
“Uh.. Sir, it’s only slide 4.” Someone says from the back of the lecture hall, crickets chirping from the outside echoes through the room. Another person coughs, awkward silence stretching on for what sounds like hours. It’s been minutes, if anything.
The professor takes in a deep breath, eyes darting between students all around the lecture hall—some at the very back, very few closer to the front, but one student has the beast-professor’s gaze stuck. One student who just seems so… out of place. He couldn’t put his finger on it, was the student a beast? A really weird looking beast? Maybe a hybrid? No, that’s not it. Or maybe it is?
He clears his throat, garnering the attention of the student he had his gazed locked on, and his eyes widened. Hands moving quickly, he tucked his phone under the desk, and prayed to whatever gods or deities favoured him may allow this one fuck up. Though, he may find those skipped sundays to be the reason tensions rose and thickened to the extent that made others question the situation at hand.
“Professor,” the student said, audibly gulping as he pushed the device further under his desk. The professor nodded, pointing down to the front of the lecture hall. “You,” he started, gaze sharp as a blade with the magical aura of a beast surrounding him, “come to the front for a moment.”
The student can only nod, taking slow, tentative steps down the path near his seat, intentionally dragging his feet to draw out any lasting nerves he has. They came right back as soon as the professor told him to “get a move on” like he was some kind of child. He’s 19, for fuck’s sake.
The student got to the front of the class as instructed and nodded, eyes locked on the professor with a nervous buzz in his stance. “Professor,” he mumbled, waiting for the authoritative figure that stands before him, “What do you need?”
The professor raises a brow at the student, sensing his anxiety as tension rolled off him in waves, hands trembling behind his back. He let out a low hum, eyes dragging across the student’s body. “Name?”
“Eggchan, sir.” he said, shivering slightly at the intense gaze of his professor along with the piercing eyes of his peers watching behind him from their seats.
“Alright, Eggchan, care to explain your race? Are you an avian-type beast, or…?”
Egg shrugged, tugging at his long, elven-type ears and the feathers of the wings that cup around his head. “Uhm, sort of? I guess so. It’s on my registry.” he mumbled, almost all recent anxiety having dissipated at the sudden question.
“Alright, dismissed.” The professor turned back to the board, paused, and looked over his shoulder as Egg was going back to his seat. “No phones, Mr Chan.”
He was still curious as to what the blood of this “Eggchan” may be, because an avian-type beast doesn’t fit the picture. Rather, Theo or Parrot are an avian-type beast.
This eggchan is not.

In one of the later lessons, one bored looking male lay motionless over his desk, waiting for his favourite words of “And that concludes today’s class” or whatever. The green skinned male let out a groan and stretched his body out, turning his head to the side to face the wall.
His seat mate nudges his side, “bro, bro, wake up, bro.” they say, and he grumbles loudly, pushing them to the side. “Nooo, it’s so booooringgggg,” the bored male huffs, resting his forehead against the desk. “Dude, just admit it. This is one of the worst classes whatsoever.” he pauses, eyes suddenly glinting with mischief. “Did you hear?” he grins, sitting up.
“..hear what, Boosfer?”
“Opening ceremony tomorrowwww~”
“...and??”
“What do you meannnn “and”? There’s gonna be a bunch of new students to terrorize. Or, in your case, maybe fight if they’re good on the field,” he waggles his brows, smug grin widening on his face.
Flame could only roll his eyes, uninterested as he looked back to the notebook in front of him, “No thanks br–”
“Ey’!” Their professor whistles, her voice echoing through the lecture hall as she uses her magic to enhance the sound, calling out to the two males talking in the back. Flamefrags went pale, glaring at Boosfer. “Keep quiet, this work will be on your midterms, so pay attention.” She growled, a long, fuzzy tail lashing behind her in her irritation.
Boosfer let out a mocking chuckle and shook his head, “Or what? Gonna give us extra assignments?” Flame elbowed him at the provocation. He knew this was gonna end badly.
The professor smirked, ears perking up at the idea. “Maybe so.” she turned back to the rest of the students, “Attention! Thanks to your friend and fellow classmate Boosfer, everyone will be receiving two new assignments based on the origins of Project Zero, along with the outcome and the recent updates on this unknown race.” she let out a hum, trying to suppress the grin that threatened to come to her lips as the other students let out groans and grumbles at Boosfer. “Round of applause, everyone! They’re due next week.”
The greenskinned male grinned to himself, crossing his arms over his chest as the other students exclaimed different variations of shut up, you suck, and so on. Some even threw things at him – pens, papers, someone threw a hello kitty phone case, too. Kinda random, but whatever. “Cmon!!! You guys are soooo not sigma,” He called.
“Bro,” Flame spoke up, elbowing his friend in the side, “You’ve basically become the class’s “miss, what about the homework?” kid.” He said, voice flat, irritation spiking at the thought of more work, though it only served to fuel Boosfer’s amusement.
“Me? Homework? You say it like I’m actually gonna do this bullshit assignment, bro.” Boosfer chuckled, leaning back on his chair as the professor dismissed the class, watching as she gave out the worksheets for the new assignments. “I’ll just get one of the new kids to do it when they get here. Say it’s a group project, put my name on it when they finish! No harm done, riiight?”
Flame rolls his eyes, “You’re cowardly.”
“Me?”
“Yes you, Boos.”

Hours went by and the first lights of dawn began to peak through the blinds of one unsuspecting, dead-asleep, stupidly unconscious male. He lay motionless in bed, save for the gentle rise and fall of his chest as he breathes, unflinching when a ray of sun hit his closed eyes.
Though, as the sudden loud screaming of an alarm echoed through the shared condo, the purple skinned male woke with a groan and a stir. He reached over to his nightstand, tried to find the off button on his phone, failed, grabbed the phone and threw it to the ground.
That didn’t stop the screeches blaring at its set sounds however, so, with a loud groan and a soft thud against the ground as the tired male hit the floor after literally rolling out of bed, crawled over to his phone and threw it against the wall with magic enhanced strength, shattering it to bits.
With that done, he flopped back down, laying on his stomach with one arm stretching out and the other placed beneath his head to act as a pillow. A sigh escaped his lips as the memories of his old school came flashing back, and he grinned, remembering the nukes that had been set off and how the building came crashing down.
“No more school… fuck yeah…” he murmured to himself, rolling onto his back as he gazed up at the ceiling. He laid down on the floor for a solid hour, reliving the moments of the terror he caused for his old school. The pranks, the nukes, the sheer and utter chaos he caused. Powerful, was an understatement. He ruled the school. Literally.
And then—
A crash came from the hallway, the bedroom door falling onto the plush carpet as splinters and wood pieces scattered. “Dude, you could’ve opened the door—”
“BRO WE’RE LATE, GET UP!” the new body cried out, already dressed in uniform as soft, fluttering white wings flapped and folded in panic. The male laying on the floor simply raised a brow, so, with a slight huff, he got up, crawled back into bed, and threw a blanket over his head.
“WEMMBU!” he cried once more, jumping onto the bed and shaking his friend violently. “Bro it’s your first day. C’mon, c’mon, get uuuupppp. Remember how you said you wanted to be the strongest in the school yesterday? C’mon bro.”
“Egg,” the purpled skinned male, now known as Wemmbu, sighs as he lifts the blanket from his face to stare at his friend. “We have like another hour before the welcome ceremony starts.” he said, dismissing Eggchan with a lazy wave of his hand before ducking back under the soft duvets. However, to his dismay, his friend pulled back the covers with a fierce look and a slight twitch in his third eye. “It’s 09:05.”
The two went silent for a moment. Wemmbu staring up at Egg, rethinking his life choices and knowing how his friend gets when it comes to school. He wanted to skip, like every other first day at whatever he’s had, but that look makes him pause.
Sighing, the purple haired male gets out of bed, a slight curse escaping his lips as he stands tall and stretches his limps. He slept comfortably. Half way on the bed, halfway off, just as usual. “Mmm,” Wemmbu hums, his shirt lifting as he raises his arms above his head and saunters off to the bathroom to shower and get ready, like he didn’t have less than thirty minutes to get to the university.
Eggchan sighs as he watches Wemmbu, placing a palm to his temple as he felt a headache begin to form. He loves his friend. That’s his best friend, ride or die, but goddamn is he way too casual about this.
“Hurry up! My reputation is on the line if I have a friend who’s late on the first day!” he calls out, hearing as the shower begins to run and steam escapes the bathroom through the slight crack in the door.
