Chapter Text
🎶 It's prom night! It's prom night! It's gonna be so much fun, right? ('WRONG' BUZZER)
Okay, so it's about a week before Pren goes to the prom with her "only dating him so no one thinks I'm a lesbian" boyfriend, Stan or Dan or whatever. Marcus, her dad, took her shopping for...you guessed it...a gorgeous, shiny dress. Because the Kravitzes weren't as well-off, they went to a discounted clothing store in the mall. Her mom Bee would've done it, but she was sick and needed some rest.
Marcus picked off so many dresses, all of them beautiful and fitting of a prom. They all looked nice on Pren, but she just felt so uncomfortable. She asked her dad if she could wear a suit instead, but he said 'no'. As she tried on more dresses, her mind started to really unravel. She asked again; same answer. She sighed, trying to find the least feminine dress possible. Marcus said, "hmm...i don't want to be rude, but this is more difficult than i thought. aren't girls supposed to enjoy this?"
That's when Pren blew up. "you don't give a damn, do you, dad?" Marcus tried to ask why she was suddenly giving him attitude, but she continued to rebuke him. "you don't care what i want, do you? you want the 'perfect daughter'. newsflash, dad; THAT'LL NEVER HAPPEN!!" She ran out of the store with angry tears in her eyes, still wearing an unpurchased dress. Marcus ran after her, attempting to reason with her, as other customers and the salespeople watched in shock.
Pren sat by the fountain, sobbing her eyes out. Anytime someone nearby asked her what was wrong, she brushed them away. When Marcus caught up to her, he scolded her for the way she acted in the store. "i can't believe you! you made me look like a bad father!" Pren growled back, "you're not listening." They argued on their way back to the store; then finally, Pren said this: "i've never liked dresses, dad. why is it okay for men like you to wear a suit, but girls like me can't?" Marcus answered that Pren wasn't male. A customer told him that 'this is the 21st century. girls can wear suits, too.' He told him to stay out of their business, but the stranger persisted in his opinion.
The stranger then said something that was totally not a last minute plot twist (LMAO): "Besides, weren't you a drag queen at some point?" Marcus's blood turned ice cold when the man said that, and Pren burst into laughter with a hint of 'oh, you bastard!' in her tone. "if that's true, dad, you're a hypocrite!" Marcus cleared his throat awkwardly, then walked his daughter to the men's section, as that was the only area of the store with suits in it. "people say the weirdest things these days. now, what suit did you want?"
Pren picked a green suit with pinstripes in it. "good choice, dear." He nodded with approval, then stared daggers at the stranger for a moment before turning back to his daughter with a smile. "i'm sorry, pren. i shouldn't have been so hard on you." She sighed with relief, telling him that she forgave him. The unpurchased dress was returned, the suit was tried on, and Pren looked so happy. After they left the store, bag in Marcus's nonexistent hand, she smirked while making eye contact with her father. "what??" "are we gonna talk about your—" "no." Pren snickered, shaking her head. "okay, then."
Then they headed for the food court to meet up with Spencer, and they had a nice dinner. The duo recalled almost everything that went down, while Spencer told them about his mixed feelings regarding clothing stores. Something was still bothering Marcus, but that wasn't a conversation he was ready to bring up yet. They all laughed about the crazy things that happened that day. The end. 😊
