Work Text:

"Pray for a change, a cocoon about to break.
But, now, you feel strange, and the wings started to take shape."

He didn't always hate it here.

Well—hate was a harsh word. He just described this feeling as "boredom."
Hate wasn't what he wanted to say.

But each day got a little harder.
Three years he'd been here, three years he'd been away from home. Three years he'd been stuck in this damnation.
Damned
to a really cool dimension.

"Rise and grind, bluuworld!"
A phrase bluudud picked up last year. It was fitting, it was funny to him. He would say it often on livestreams, then it expanded to a morning greeting once he'd rolled out of bed and blew up the front door to his house. That was normal. He was used to it. A lot of the visitors still weren't, though.

With a smile as big and bright as ever, bluudud trotted over to the fenced area the blunnies resided in, leaning against the blue-colored wood to be face-to-face with them.
"Hey, guys! It's breakfast time! Wait here!"
He turned away, running back into the house to grab the blunnies food from the kitchen. It wasn't long at all before he returned, arms awkwardly wrapped around quite the heavy bag of kibble. He just gave them whatever he thought worked. They liked it, though.

He maneuvered around the bag to unlatch the fence's entrance, shutting it behind him as he approached the blunnies who quickly gathered at his feet, distorted noises of glee emitting from them.
His eyes landed on a specific one of them, strutting over from the back of the group, standing out by not only being larger than the rest but by the unique features it held.
Sharp teeth, slanted eyes, a pink-tinted party hat matching a tutu it wore awkwardly over its round body.
bluudud always felt a certain way he couldn't quite name when looking at the blunny.

He tossed a portion of the food on the ground, watching as they all gathered in a blue blur around it, stepping over one another to get their fill.

Routines tired him out.

But it gave him a sense of normalcy. Structure. He had to, eventually.

His next stop was the zoo.

A couple of blunnies trailed behind him, ears pricked with curiosity as bluudud walked ahead, eyes closed as if he didn't have to see at all to walk the paths of this dimension. His grin continued to relentlessly beam, all the way until he blasted off the door of the zoo.
"Infernum!" He exclaimed, stepping up to the counter and leaning in on his tippy toes.

Infernum eyed him with typical disinterest, giving a simple wave.
"Morning kid," it greeted flatly, resting it's chin on it's hand.
bluudud glanced away, his eye catching the caged creatures, ranging from two very dangerous versions of himself to a miniature, blue elephant. He grimaced at the little thing before turning back to Infernum, blinking.

"Have the greenhorns come back?" He asked, head tilted.
Infernum responded with narrowed eyes, his brows furrowing as if he didn't understand.
"Hm—? The greenhorns don't live around here anymore, bluudud."

He just stared. Smile faltering a little.
"Huh? Yeah they do! I saw one yesterday!"

"Well, not near the zoo. They haven't been back for months. You hit your head, kid?"

"No." bluudud said flatly, his tone harsher than he'd meant it.
He turned around and walked out of the building, stepping over the fallen door. His tail twitched in acknowledgement as the blunnies followed closely behind.

His gaze surveyed the abundance of other bluududs scattered across the land, residing in stores, small houses, or simply walking out-and-about. For a moment, he just stared, but then his eyes searched.
"Mama," he called out in a more hushed voice, bouncing toward a distorted figure resembling bluudud's mother.
She didn't exist in this dimension. He created her himself based off of what he remembered of her appearance.
But she wasn't very...responsive.

Nonetheless, he threw his arms around the copy of his mother, his unamused expression quickly contorting back into a pleased smile.
"I'm gonna go exploring today, Mama," he explained, dipping his head as he backed off from her.
With a giggle, he sped off toward the side of his house where the "bluumobile" resided, stepping around the side to open the door and hop into the comfortable driver's seat.

He was a terrible driver, he wasn't even old enough to drive. But it was a-okay, chaos thrived in bluuworld.

Well, he'd say that until he's ran into five trees, knocked over a house, and flattened a couple more bluududs.

Huffing with rushing adrenaline, he stretched to slam his foot on the breaks as he neared the one place he deemed the most dangerous of all.
The edge of the map—the edge of bluuworld as a whole!

If he was being honest, his "exploring" was running into everything imaginable before driving in a straight line for two minutes, completely zoned out.

His first instinct was to turn around, back up, return back to the "mainlands."
But something about the looming danger drew him in.
Something about being somewhere he'd never dared to travel before, maybe only once or twice in the past—but never thought about getting close.
This time, he wanted to get close.

He unlocked the door of the vehicle, giving it a shove and nearly tumbling out. With cautious steps, he approached the abrupt drop in the map, and dared to peer over the edge.
He swallowed, hard.
His chest tightened.

Below, there was nothing more, simply a dark, ominous void that lay beneath the map of bluuworld.
Nothing more.

bluudud dropped to his knees, claws curling around the edge of the map as he lowered himself. His eyes widened further, as if he thought he could see something past the void underneath.
It was only the intimidating yet alluring endless pit of darkness that lay before him.

And his own thoughts.
His own mind.
His own fears.

And the gentle sound of crackling fire.
And the feel of wood beneath his claws.
And the weight resting on his shoulders.
