Mizuki definitely doesn't love Ena. And Ena definitely doesn't love Mizuki.
Icy air blew Ena's bangs slightly to the side and bit her skin. It stung. A stark contrast to the warmth radiating from Mizuki's body pressed against hers. She shivered, not just from the cold, but from the overwhelming feelings she felt. The forest around them was now filled with shadows and dark trees.
They were sitting against the bark of a tree in a forest, holding Ena and telling her how much she means to them. Ena felt the bark of the tree, smooth as if it almost wasn't there, and leaned in to feel the temperature.
“Mmmm…It’s so cold tonight…” Ena murmured, her voice muffled and nuzzled her face into Mizuki's neck, her hot breath hitting them, with her arms around their neck.
“Enanan’s so cute when she does that~” Mizuki teased, their slender, smooth hands moving to gently cup her cheeks. “Don’t worry, pretty girl, I'll be right here.” The words ‘pretty girl’ rolled off their tongue so smoothly, a nickname that always made her face flush red. Ena couldn't help but feel her face getting hotter. She loved when they would hold her in their arms, telling her how much they love her with that soothing voice.
And one day, she will never get to feel their arms around her. She will never get to hear their voice ever again. And maybe even forget what their voice sounds like.
“I hate it when you call me that..” the short haired brunette tried to protest and deny. She scooted closer, trying to hide her blush.
“Come onn.. I know you secretly love it!” Mizuki's hand brushed Ena's brunette bangs to the side, revealing her forehead. They carefully leaned and pressed their soft, plump, warm lips against her dry forehead. It was beautiful, enticing. Disgusting.
The sky had started to darken, and soon, rain drops began to pour. Each drop soaked the two in cold water. “We’re getting soaked!” complained the brunette, a small smile on her face. Beads of rainwater slid down Mizuki and Ena's cheeks, their hot breaths on each others' face.
Ena's cold fingers dug deeper and gripped Mizuki's neck tighter as they abruptly pulled her in a kiss. Their eyes fluttered closed while hers widened. Mizuki's tongue brushed against Ena's dry, chapped lips.
“Mmm!!—” Ena gasped as they deepened the kiss.
“Ena..” Mizuki muttered in between against her lips. They pulled her closer, eyes slightly opened, narrowed. One hand was now on Ena's hip, the other was on her chin, making her look up at them while they kissed—under the moon. They were making out. Right here. Right now. While it's raining. While sitting against a tree.
Ena felt a warm, wet pink muscle enter her mouth and she knew it was their tongue. She could feel her face was reddened, she was practically a tomato! Mmmhfpp… Mnhngh… Mmh…
At last, Mizuki finally broke the kiss—a saliva string formed a bridge leading to each others’ lips. “A-at least warn me next time!” the flushed brunette grasped Mizuki's shirt, trying to steady herself, panting for air.
Time passed, silence and tension was in the air. The air was thick of unsaid words and feelings. Ena could only think about the intimate, casual times she and her best friend, Mizuki had. She sighed, her eyebrows were slightly knitted, looking up at them.
“M-Mizuki, I—” Ena stammered, trying to pull herself together. “I love you. I've felt so deeply connected with you tonight.” she confessed, her voice barely above a whisper.
…
…
…
Mizuki was silent for a moment, still trying to process what Ena just said. She loved them? Them? The stupid weirdo that was bullied for allegedly being transgender? That's who she loved?
“I..I’m sorry..” Ena said and darted her eyes somewhere else.
Mizuki gaped, their eyes widened in shock, “Ena,” they said. “I’m not like that. We’re just friends, Ena.” They slowly retracted their arms, as if the touch was now “too much”
“I—I need to go now. Sorry. Take care.” they whispered before getting up on their feet. Now Ena was really all alone, leaving her in the rain, heart shattered.
Ena sat there. The rain soaking through her clothes, seeping into her bones. She stared at the spot Mizuki sat. “I’m not like that,” was stuck in her mind. What did Mizuki mean by that? Did it mean they didn't like her back or did it mean something else?
The rain continued to fall. It stung. Just not enough to wipe Ena's feelings away. A single warm, hot tear fell from her cheek. Is she not their pretty girl anymore? Didn't they say she would always be their pretty girl?
“I—I wish I never f—fucking said that!” Ena mentally yelled at herself.
