How the Ninja's Deal with no Heating in the Monastary

Summary:

Basically the title.

Notes:

Slight reference to my other fanfic, "Rule Seventeen" but you don't have to read that to understand this.

Work Text:

The first sign something was wrong came when Jay sneezed so hard he nearly electrocuted the teapot.

“WHY is the air biting me?” he yelped, rubbing his arms. “Since when does the monastery come with winter mode?”

Zane looked up from his tea, internal sensors already flashing warnings.
“Ambient temperature has dropped to four degrees Celsius,” he said calmly. “The heating system appears to have failed.”

“FAILED?” Kai shouted from across the room. “I’m literally the Master of Fire. This is insulting.”

Master Wu sighed, pulling his robes tighter. “Patience, Kai. The monastery has stood for centuries. A little cold will not defeat us.”

Outside, the wind howled louder, as if personally challenging that statement.

Kai – Aggressively Warm

Kai refused to be cold.

He paced the training room, flames flickering from his hands as he attempted to “manually fix” the problem by blasting the furnace.

“Turn on,” he growled at the ancient machinery.

“Please stop threatening it,” Lloyd said from a safe distance.

"Rule seventeen still applies" Nya chimed in.

"Would you rather freeze than let me break the rules?"

Nya sighed, knowing that he was right.

Kai ended up sitting in the center of the room, cross-legged, surrounded by a small controlled ring of fire.
“Anyone cold can come over here,” he offered.

Everyone did—except Zane, who stood slightly too close and began to overheat.

Jay – Maximum Complaining Mode

Jay layered every piece of clothing he owned on top of himself: hoodies, scarves, socks on his hands, and somehow a blanket cape.

“I can’t feel my fingers,” he whined. “How am I supposed to invent things if I’m a human popsicle?”

He attempted to build a space heater out of spare parts and lightning. It exploded.

“On the bright side,” he said weakly from the floor, “I’m warmer now.”

Cole – Built Different

Cole barely noticed.

He sat on the stone floor, calmly eating a bowl of noodles that were definitely too hot.

“This reminds me of mountain training,” he said. “Cold keeps you sharp.”

The others stared at him in disbelief as he offered them noodles like this solved everything.

It didn’t. But they appreciated the effort.

Zane – Systematically Prepared

Zane adapted immediately.

He adjusted his internal temperature regulators, distributed extra blankets, and calculated optimal body-heat-sharing arrangements.

“I have determined that huddling together will increase overall warmth by thirty-seven percent,” he announced.

There was a pause.

Jay slowly scooted away. “I’m not emotionally ready for that, Zane.”

Zane nodded. “Understood. I will huddle with the teapot.”

Lloyd – Trying to Be Responsible

Lloyd took charge.

He organized sleeping arrangements, assigned warm zones near Kai’s fire, and even attempted meditation to “mentally overcome the cold.”

It did not work.

He ended up curled up in a blanket burrito next to Master Wu, quietly muttering, “Being the Green Ninja is harder in winter.”

Wu smiled knowingly.

Nya – Actually Fixing the Problem

While everyone else suffered, Nya rolled up her sleeves.

She examined the heating system, muttering about ancient pipes, frozen valves, and “why no one ever maintains anything.”

Using a combination of water control, tools, and sheer irritation, she thawed the frozen pipes and repaired the system.

An hour later, warm air finally flowed through the monastery.

Aftermath

Everyone cheered.

Jay cried a little.

Kai extinguished his fire with a dramatic flourish.
“See? I helped.”

Nya raised an eyebrow. “You set a wall on fire.”

Temporarily,” he said.

As the monastery warmed, Master Wu sipped his tea and smiled.

“A good reminder,” he said, “that even in the coldest moments, teamwork keeps us warm.”

Cole nodded. “And noodles.”

Everyone agreed.
