Work Text:
"Do you guys ever think about like. How wild something as simple parallel lines are? Like they go on forever and never intersect, sure, we all know the math concept, but we've interconnected the names for our narrative devices and our words for mathematical concepts. Which ties into my theory that more of math and science is inspired by poetry and the arts than we like to admit, like think about the complex math concept of a 'lie group'. Do you think that happened by chance? Who was annoyed enough at the concept to name it after deception? I'll explain-"
Jason muted his com and turned to Dick. "If Red Robin is so hopped up on painkillers, why is he allowed on the coms? Old man getting lax?"
Dick snickered, muting his own com, "Uh, he's not."
"He very obviously is. What happened to strict bed rest after an injury?"
"Not that, Hood. Just cause you get talkative on the good pain killers doesn't mean everybody does. He's not benched and jabbering in the Cave, he's cleared for duty and compiling the evidence for the Two-Face case."
"So what, he just chatters constantly while he works?"
"Yeah. I think he got used to it as Robin, using it to ground B or something. If he doesn't need to be quiet, he isn't."
"That's stupid. You don't know when you do or don't need to be quiet until it's too late."
Dick smirked, "watch this," he unmuted himself and interrupted Tim's monologue, "Red Robin, if you really want to dissect literary devices we have an expert on the coms who would love to bounce some ideas off of you."
There was a pause on the line.
Jason took the opportunity to flip Dick off.
"Why would i want to involve the June Ostin stan in my monologue?" Tim asked, faux innocently.
Jason took the bait hook, line, and sinker. "You know damn well it's Jane Austen you little shit-"
"No chatter on the coms." Batman cut in.
"Oh you have a problem with chatter now, Bats! Not during Red Robin's tirade about about Circle and Lie Groups?"
"It wasn't an argument then. It is now, and it needs to stop."
"Fucking hypocrites-"
"I've got a break in the case." Tim interrupted. "I could use some backup by the docks if Mr Romance can find it in himself to make an appearance. I can tell him about a really good book I read recently once we wrap up, you heard of 'Pride and Prejudice and Zombies'?"
The question threw Jason for a moment, he knew that wasn't Tim's opinion on the book. "How did you say that without throwing up?"
"Willpower." Tim half laughed his answer. "You can tear the book to shreds later if you're actually helpful, sending the coordinates now."
"Are you trying to bribe me with book shit talking?"
"I mean, if you don't want to talk shit about adaptions made by people who hate the source material I can ask Nightwing instead. I bet he'll let me ramble about math etymology."
"I'll beat you to the docks, you brat."
"In your dreams, bastard."
