Hello! I know this is very sudden and out of nowhere, but in light that Ao3 has been the victim of AI scraping, and due to the fact that somebody (presumably a bot) left a comment that has since been taken down, I have decided that from now on, I will put all of my work in private/ accessible by registered users only.
A month or two ago (I can't exactly remember), an account with no profile pic and was made the day before the comment was made left a comment promoting an art collaboration with my work? The comment was super generic too. I have strong grounds to think that it was definitely a bot, and that "art collaboration" and I thought definitely some type of scam. That comment has since been taken down.
I've also noticed that Mixtape No.27 had an imbalanced number of guest kudos compared to the number of registered user kudos [context: 22 registered kudos -60 guest kudos]. That also raised my suspicions.
It might be paranoid of me, but to think that some scumy AI company took my work and fed it for their stupid misinformation gargler machine really fucking boils my blood. I did not spend hours on ellipsus staring at an empty document just for my hard work to be used as a dataset for character AI or some bullshit other app.
If you are a guest reader and not a bot, I am so so sorry for the inconvenience. This was actually a hard decision for me to make, since I don't know how many people are actually reading this in guest mode and now do not have access to my writing. I'm saddened by this too. I don't want anyone to be locked out from reading my work, but I genuinely do NOT want my work to be put through AI.
I'm so sorry to give guest readers the hassle of waiting for an invite. It took me a month to get mine. But I do want this extra layer of protection for my work.
Sorry and thank you for understanding. I wish the AI bubble would explode already.
