She wasn't the best person by far, but even she knew that this was taking things too far. This was no longer a prank, it was a fucking humiliation ritual.
Well, fuck that, she wasn't going to stand for it any longer.
15 minutes earlier
Quil Ateara stood in his nicest suit with a bouquet of lilies outside of a local diner. He had been standing there for 10 minutes now.
Her and a group of classmates sat in a tinted car watching him make a fool of himself. They laughed and giggled at the Rez Kid, who had no idea this was all just some fucked up bet.
She sat there hearing them giggle. Bragging about how one of them had asked him out as a joke for 20 dollars.
Something in her twitched, something deep and instinctual. No person deserved to get treated this way.
This boy did not deserve to get treated this way.
Present
So she hopped out the car, ignoring the sounds of protest from everyone else. This was her first hang out with them and this is how they decided to spend it?
Yea, fuck them.
Her legs carried her to the boy who looked to have tears in his eyes.
"Wanna grab something to eat with me?" She offered as non chalanty as possible.
"Actually, I'm waiting on someone. "
"Don't waste your time on someone like her." She continued. " You already know she isn't coming."
His shoulders slump even more, head hung low.
The girl wasn't good at stuff like this. Comforting people in times of turmoil wasn't something she knew how to do.
But surely she could fix this. She so badly wanted to make the boy smile.
"Don't let trash like that get you down."
"Don't you go to Forks High? Are you not friends with her?" He questioned, not trusting her intentions.
She merely shrugged.
"I'm new and not attached to anyone in that car. But my guts telling me you're not too bad. " She pauses. "And that diner looks like it has some killer burgers."
Finally, he cracks a small smile.
"Yea the foods pretty good." He admits.
"Show me the way then, pretty boy."
He puts his elbow out for her to wrap an arm around.
"I'd love to pretty lady."
The group of teenage girls watch on in the car dumbfounded. After a few minutes of watching the two converse and laugh they drive off.
Their night of fun ruined.
