Chapter Text
Bang Chan had never thought leadership would feel like holding the night sky together with bare hands.
Stray Kids did not form all at once. They came together slowly, awkwardly, painfully. Each member arrived carrying something fragile, something unfinished. Chan remembered those days vividly, the way exhaustion clung to his bones, the way responsibility settled into his chest and never truly left.
Jeongin needed patience. He needed late nights and quiet corners, dance steps repeated until his confidence caught up to his determination. Chan stayed with him as long as he could, until Lee Know stepped in, strict but reassuring in his own way, taking Jeongin under his wing like it was the most natural thing in the world.
Jisung needed safety. His anxiety crept up on him suddenly, hands shaking, thoughts spiraling. Chan learned how to sit beside him without speaking, how to breathe with him, how to remind him that fear did not make him weak.
Hyunjin needed belief. He practiced until his body ached, yet still doubted himself. Chan watched him carefully, choosing his words with care, afraid that one wrong sentence could undo weeks of progress.
Changbin became Chan’s shoulder. Strong, loud, reliable. When leadership felt overwhelming, Changbin noticed without being told.
Lee Know became his partner. He took on responsibilities naturally, scolded when needed, comforted when it mattered. Chan trusted him with things he could not carry alone.
Felix needed guidance in a different way.
Language barriers. Cultural differences. Homesickness he tried to hide behind sunshine smiles. Chan spent hours teaching him Korean phrases, explaining jokes, customs, unspoken rules. He watched Felix work twice as hard just to keep up, bowing too deeply, apologizing too often, determined not to be a burden.
And Seungmin.
Seungmin arrived quiet, observant, mature in a way that startled Chan. He listened carefully. He corrected himself without prompting. He practiced until improvement showed, steady and consistent. He never demanded attention.
Chan trusted him instantly.
At least one person I do not have to worry about.
The relief felt enormous.
He never questioned the cost.
