Oglethorpe turned the key into the door and was greeted by the warm air of his family’s quaint home on Pluto. He was home just a little later than usual, but his parents didn’t seem to mind, as his dad cheerfully greeted him at the door with no problem.
Oglethorpe made a silent promise to himself that he wouldn’t push his return home progressively later in the future, but he knew that the more he hung around Ignignokt and Err, the more he’d fall in love with the former, and later would the time he returned home plunge deeper into the night.
Dinner with his family was always silent. Nothing but tension, utensils scraping plates, and chewing. Sometimes, a parent would ask him the occasional question. “So, you were home a little late today. Where were you?” His mother asked with a slight chuckle.
“Oh, I just dropped by Emory’s house after school to study and play video games.” Oglethorpe answered. He wasn’t *technically* lying, because he had done that with Emory, but he intentionally left out the part regarding his outing with the Mooninites prior to taking the train back to Pluto.
His mom hummed. Oglethorpe couldn’t tell if she was content or indifferent.
His parents were never suspicious of their intelligent, innocent son who stayed out of trouble, so they never asked questions that were too invasive. While Oglethorpe didn’t mind this, what made him sullen was the fact that they didn’t really care about what he was doing until he messed up.
After taking a shower and getting ready to climb into bed, Oglethorpe checked the time. Only 9:30. He figured he’d have some time to listen to music and still go to bed at a reasonable time. He put his earbuds in and fumbled with his iPod until he found “Hey Ya!” by Outkast and stared at the ceiling as he listened and reflected on the day he had.
…
Today the Mooninites were happy with him, made obvious by Ignignokt running a hand through Oglethorpe’s hair in the morning as he gave the Mooninites their completed homework. Oglethorpe’s knees almost buckled at the contact with his crush “You’ve been so, so good for me Oglethorpe. Mmm you know that?” Ignignokt cooed, relishing in Oglethorpe’s wide, pathetic smile. “As a reward, I won’t make you follow me and Err around school all day. You’ve deserved a day off with your other little friend.” Ignignokt assured, with that buttery voice that kept the Plutonian coming back for more. Oglethorpe was confused by this, but was glad he could spend some time with Emory.
“Just remember we’re going to the gas station after school to get snacks and give you our homework to do!” Err barked as he stuffed the previous night’s homework in his bag.
“O-of course, Err!” Oglethorpe nodded, still star struck at the feeling of Ignignokt’s hand on him. That feeling had him practically floating in the hallways as the day began.
At lunch, Oglethorpe sat down with Emory. He missed sitting with his best friend and was glad he could spend some time with him today. Emory was the first to speak. “Hey.. do you wanna come over to my house after school? I feel like it’s been a while, my parents have even been asking about you.”
Oglethorpe jumped in his seat as he remembered his obligation with the Mooninites after school. “Uh.. hmm.. w-well I have a.. a thing to do after school… but it shouldn’t take too long.. s-so I’ll come to your house afterwards, okay?” Oglethorpe hoped his friend wouldn’t ask any further questions.
Somewhat dejected, Emory agreed. He personally didn’t like that his best friend was hanging around the delinquent Mooninites, but he reluctantly obliged as to not seem controlling. After school he watched as Oglethorpe followed the Mooninites to the gas station, comforted by the fact that his friend was happy and his promise to visit later.
As Ignignokt went to the checkout to pay for the items inside the gas station, Err and Oglethorpe waited outside. Err rummaged through his backpack until he found his and Ignignokt’s homework, and shoved it in Oglethorpe’s direction. Err glared at him as the Plutonian shyly put the homework in a folder.
This awkwardness ended as Ignignokt appeared with a bag of various snacks. “Cmon, let’s go to that alley over there.” The sly Mooninite commanded as he pointed towards the alleyway across the street. When they got there, Oglethorpe noticed Ignignokt pull a pack of cigarettes out from the bag, as Err brandished his strawberry geek bar from his pocket. Oglethorpe gazed over at the Mooninites as they filled their lungs with their precious nicotine.
“Hey, you’re back to cigs!” Err jeered at his green friend. “Couldn’t handle those big-ass cigars huh tough guy?”
“Well, I wouldn’t say that,” Ignignokt chuckled as he playfully pushed Err with one hand, cigarette in the other.
…
“Hey Ya!” ended. Now, Oglethorpe had to choose another song to listen to. He struggled to think of one until he remembered that song he heard on the radio the other day that piqued his interest. He laid his head back down on the pillow as “The First Taste” by Fiona Apple began to play after he pressed on it. As soon as the piano and singing made itself known to the Plutonian’s headphones, he was sent into a dreamlike state where he had one being on his mind.
Ignignokt. Oglethorpe reveled in the praise and affection the tall, smooth-talking, green Mooninite had to spare for him. He thought to himself about how Ignignokt looked as he smoked in the alleyway earlier that day. The way his lips softly let the smoke out, how his fingers gently gripped the cigarette, how his skin glowed against the firelight. As Oglethorpe relived the sight, his crush was draped in a winding, cosmic haze in his vision.
Imagine getting to call him your lover.
Oglethorpe stared at the ceiling as that thought looped in his heard like a broken record.
“I do not struggle in your web, because it was my aim to get caught.”
Oglethorpe almost felt bad for his crush, telling himself that Ignignokt wasn’t sure how to ask Oglethorpe to be his boyfriend. It was evident that he enjoyed giving Oglethorpe the utmost affection, so what was stopping him from making it official? He needed Ignignokt to give him his word, that first taste.
“So daddy long legs, I feel that I’m finally growing weary of waiting to be consumed by you.”
Oglethorpe needed Ignignokt. He needed him badly. He needed the affection, the affirmation, that handsome face smiling back at him. Those lips anywhere on his body that they pleased to journey. He’d carry out all of his orders in the world for it. He didn’t know what the Mooninite needed, but he knew it would someday get to him. Oglethorpe’s became filled with thoughts and feelings that shared the quality of being green, blue, and Ignignokt all over as the music invaded his ears with its many instruments. He felt himself stretch out and sigh as it all began to fade.
As the last drops of piano slipped away, Oglethorpe could be found fast asleep, his mind in the world where Ignignokt gave him that first taste, where he truly loved him. The Ignignokt-colored walls of Oglethorpe’s heart guarded his soul from the harsh reality for now, but forever wouldn’t happen before that fantasy would crumble.
