Chapter Text
The camera pans over to Trevor McGregor & Derek Johnson standing in front of the sign to Camp Tipiskaw.
“Welcome to Disventure Camp!” Trevor narrates.
“The place where anything can happen, even if it’s most likely not good.” Derek continues narrating.
“We are miles from civilization, surrounded by unexplored forest” Trevor explains.
“This won’t be a walk in the park. We are talking about a forest with wild animals, torrential rains, and extreme heat waves.” Derek grins at the idea of the cast being in actual danger. “Let’s hope the participants are prepared for the worst, because that’s exactly what awaits them.”
“Admittedly, it’s no paradise…but our competitors are in good hands.” Trevor desperately tries to make this not seem illegal.
“I’m Trevor McGregor, and this is my hosting partner, Derek Johnson,” Trevor says.
“We will do our best to make sure that all of our competitors have the worst experience possible,” Derek adds.
“What Derek’s trying to say is...on this show, nothing is easy!” Trevor desperately tries to get the narration back on track.
“Each week, our campers will have to overcome challenges and eliminations where they will face the judgment of their teammates,” Trevor explains the rules.
“And this is just the beginning!” Derek finishes.
…
The camera cuts to a blue bus driving towards the camp with a pan over the 14 competitors before arriving in front of the gates of Camp Tipiskaw.
“We're here. Everyone off.” Jensen instructs gruffly.
“They’ve finally arrived! Please welcome…” Trevor says with excitement.
“Ally, Connor, Hunter, Kai, Riya, Tess, and Yul. You will be the Purple Team.” Trevor introduces the first batch of contestants.
Confessional: Connor
“I’m coming out here to prove I can still hang with the rest of the youngsters.” Connor talks like he isn’t 48 with a full head of gray hair.
Conf End
“Next up…Aiden, James, Karol, Lake, Maggy, Oliver, and Rosa Maria. You will be the Teal Team.” Derek finishes the introduction. Doesn’t everyone love exposition?
Confessional: Aiden
“I still can’t believe I got cast on the first season of my new favorite show” Aiden shuffles in place for a moment “well technically I am an alternate because some other guy got food poisoning, but I’m here now and I intend to win.”
Conf End
“Welcome, people! Are you ready for a once-in-a-lifetime adventure?” Trevor prods for responses.
“I always love your enthusiasm, Trevor.” Derek compliments.
“But let's be clear, they're going to need a lot more than enthusiasm to survive here.” Derek adds.
“Don't listen to Derek! He's just in a bad mood because he forgot his coffee this morning. This place is amazing, and I'm sure everyone will have an unforgettable experience.” Trevor scrambles to prevent a lawsuit.
“Enough! We all read the damn contracts!” Karol shouts.
“Well, somebody’s clearly on their period.” Yul’s zesty voice chimes in.
“So where are the cabins? Is it a long walk?” Tess tries to move things along. She does not have the energy for this.
“Oh, I forgot to mention, there are no cabins!” Derek grins, “In fact, all there is, is a vast forest.”
“Wait, where will we sleep? The forest is a dangerous place.” Lake is concerned about being mauled by wolves.
“WHAT?!! This wasn’t in the contracts, you hacks!” Karol yells.
“And how will I charge my phone?” James asks the important questions.
“For the next few weeks, your only supplies will be a tent, a machete, and a pot,” Derek explains. While he wouldn’t find it fun if half the cast died to wolves, he wants them to struggle still. “You will not have cabins, food, or any supplies. You’ll be looking out for yourselves.”
“There will, however, be a way to get extra supplies by winning the challenges,” Trevor adds.
“Here's a map for each team, which will guide you to the area where you'll find your tent.” Derek provides in a rare moment of humanity. “Now, Move!”
…
Cut to Purple Team
“I can handle navigation to our camp. For the path is already carved into each of our destinies.” Kai offers the Purple Team.
“Uh, yeah no we’re not letting the druggie lead, you’ll just take us to your shroom stash.” Yul immediately shoots him down. Completely platonically.
“Knock it off, Yul! Kai says he knows his way around a map, we’ll be fine,” Connor scolds.
“…” Riya looks at Yul disapprovingly but says nothing.
Confessional: Riya
“As much of a brat as Yul is, I can’t risk becoming a target this early,” Riya looks thoughtful. “Though I admire Connor stepping in, Yul should be an easy first boot.”
Conf End
“I can handle the map instead if that’s fine with everyone,” Ally happily chimes in. “I play a lot of Fortnite, MMORPG’s and PUBG, I know my way around a map!”
Hunter shoots her a thumbs-up; the Purple Team seems content with this decision.
…
The camera decides to cut to Teal Team now that Purple is done arguing. Lake is handling the map as she is a geography nerd.
“Thanks for handling the map, Lake,” Rosa Maria casually praises.
“It is not a problem-“ Lake starts.
“How much further left!? We’ve been walking for nearly an hour!” Karol rudely cuts in.
“…About 2 kilometers,” Lake responds.
“Ugh, there's not even any signal out here.” James continues griping while they walk to camp, phone at 97%.
“You’ll survive a couple of weeks out here without it, James,” Aiden gently chides. “It’ll definitely be dead by the finale if you make it there anyways.”
“Ughhhhhh,” James groans for 11 seconds. “Yeah, you’re right.”
James decides to start up a conversation with Aiden to stave off boredom.
“Want to record a TikTok with me?” James shifts things back to his phone anyway.
“Not really, we need to get to camp before dark.” Aiden dismisses, “I wouldn’t count on Trevor or Derek to help us out if some bears show up.”
James looks sad at the flat rejection.
“What kind of content do you post?” Aiden asks, feeling bad for shutting him down.
Maggy looks on sadly at James & Aiden and Lake & Rosa Maria getting along.
Confessional: Maggy
Maggy sits in the confessional for a moment before speaking, “…I wanted to be included.”
Conf End
In a rare burst of confidence, Maggy slows down to chat with Oliver.
“Hi, I’m Maggy, what’s your- “Maggy starts.
“With that size, you’re definitely a threat.” Oliver cuts her off with a completely normal response and walks faster to be near James & Aiden instead.
“-name,” Maggy finishes sadly. Another person immediately dismissing her as a toxic bully.
Karol fails to stifle a laugh at the awkward interaction, making Maggy sadder.
…
Cut to Purple
Hunter has a nervous look on his face before approaching Tess. “Hey…Tess right?” he questions like he doesn’t know damn well her name is Tess.
Tess inhales deeply before responding, “Yeah, that’s me.”
“Ye-Yeah, so uhhh..” Hunter scrambles to pull out his cards with several questions to help people to get to know each other. “…What are your hobbies?”
Tess thinks for a second. “I like art.”
“Oh that’s cool, what kind of art do you like?”
Tess sighs deeply, annoyed that he isn’t picking up on her wanting to be left alone. “Look, Hunter, you seem sweet, but I'm not someone you wanna get to know.” Hunter looks like he might say something. “I’d just rather you leave me alone, can you respect that?”
Hunter slows down and walks alone for almost a complete sentence before matching pace with Yul.
“Any idea what you’d do with the million if you won?” Hunter reads one of the custom cards his mom gave him, doing a poor job of doing so discreetly.
Yul scoffs, declining to make an insult for once. “Not like I need money with all my sponsorships. I went viral as a dancer at 15, and the star qualities kept up with me since.”
Hunter looks confused. “So, why’d you come out here if you don’t need the money?”
“This isn’t turning into a game of fucking 20 questions, you…actually, you’re not enough of an eyesore or a headache to completely piss me off like the other guys on this team.”
Confessional: Hunter
“Looks like I can be social!” Hunter looks elated like he didn’t befriend one of the worst people to ever exist.
Conf End
“We’re here!” Ally announces, seeing their tent, pot, machete, and flint in a clearing.
“Yeah, we can fucking see that, bitch.” Yul feels a need to comment.
“Enough, Yul! Don’t talk to her like that!” Connor steps in, annoyed at Yul’s outbursts. “We need to set up camp, Hunter, can you help me with the fire?”
Hunter immediately lights up, overjoyed to be included. “Of Course!”
“I’m going to rest in the tent,” Tess says, nobody acknowledges her.
…
Cut to Teal
Elsewhere, Lake & Rosa Maria arrive at the camp’s clearing, quickly followed by James, Aiden, Oliver, Maggy, and Karol.
“Aiden, do you think any of these trees are tall enough to give me some signal?” James pesters Aiden about his phone's connection.
“That sounds like a medical emergency waiting to happen. Let's set up camp.” Rosa Maria stops James from breaking all his bones.
Karol decides to cut in on the lack of immediate productivity, and decides to get everyone in line, “Okay, enough chit chat! We need camp set up before dark. I’ll get started on the fire, James & Maggy will get water, Lake, Aiden, and Rosa will go foraging, Oliver will stay with me and help with the fire. Everyone understand!”
“Who put the dinosaur in charge?” James does not respond well.
“I’m the best fit to lead!” Karol pushes back.
Nobody is overly happy with Karol, but they reluctantly get to work.
Confessional: Oliver
“Karol’s really harsh,” Oliver states the obvious, “and that’s really saying something coming from me, I’ve spent most of my 20’s being abused at internships, I finally quit working for Kristoff McLane and Race to The Place to come out here, I don’t think I want her around.”
Conf End
James and Maggy arrive at the lake and quickly fill the pot with water.
“That woman is completely insufferable!” James continues to gripe, his phone not being his focus for once. What would he even do? Record TikToks with a woman? Ridiculous.
“She is kinda bossy,” Maggy admits.
James doesn’t really care what she has to say, but appreciates Karol slander. “Hopefully we can kick her off first, I’m half tempted to throw the challenge to get that Karen out.”
“Wa-Wasn’t her name Karol?” Maggy seems confused.
“We have the water. Let’s get back to camp,” James doesn’t even acknowledge her question.
Confessional: James
“I think I convinced the biggie with the pink top to take Karen out she can’t leave soon enough.”
Conf End
Elsewhere, we see Aiden, Lake, and Rosa Maria looking for something edible.
“So, where’s your accent from?” Rosa asks, as they don’t actually know much about edible plants.
“Germany, I’ve lived there with my family all my life.” Lake exposits.
“What made you sign up for Disventure Camp all the way up in Canada?” Aiden is also here; the show wasn’t huge, and he’s curious how she found out about it.
“It might seem like an odd choice, but I just wanted to do something fun before boarding school.” Lake answers casually, “My family is very influential in Germany, and I wanted an escape.”
“Do these mushrooms look edible?” Aiden shifts the subject after confirming she isn’t a superfan like him.
“Potentially…but we’re better safe than sorry, lots of mushrooms are poisonous,” Lake responds.
This riveting conversation is cut off by a loudspeaker.
“Attention campers, we'll see you in 20 minutes in the challenge zone, which you can find on your maps,” Derek instructs.
…
Cut to challenge
We see the 14 contestants standing in front of Derek and Trevor, who have 2 manila boxes set on the tables in front of them.
“Welcome to your first challenge! But first... we have a little twist...” Derek leads into the episode 1 twist. “In this game, you should never feel safe…Right now, you’re going to vote one person off each team.”
“What?!” Everyone except Tess seems horrified.
“That's right. We will give you a piece of paper where you must write the name of the person you want out and deposit it in these ballot boxes.” Derek exposits again, love that for him.
Confessional: Rosa Maria
Rosa Maria looks nervous “It feels cruel to vote someone out just on first impressions, but I know who I’m voting for”
Conf End
Confessional: Riya
“I thought we’d have a challenge first, but this vote should be an easy 6-1.” Riya does not sound worried.
Conf End
“Okay, we already counted the votes… The people kicked out are…Yul from the purple team and Karol from the teal team.” Derek spills the results.
“WHAT!?!” Yul says in the zestiest screech he can manage. “You kept the druggie and the pile of bones over me?!!!”
“How are you surprised by this?” Ally seems genuinely confused. ”It’s like you rolled a 0 for your charisma stat.”
The Teal team, meanwhile, is experiencing something similar with Karol.
“How the Hell could you all vote for me!” Karol balls her fists. She’s been leading this team for the entire first day. How could they do this to her?
“What did you expect?” James grins, happy at the result. “You’re insufferable!”
“You give me a migraine almost as bad as my parents.” Lake casually adds.
“Karol and Yul, you're kicked from your teams…but not from the competition!” Trevor finally gets lines. “Go to the opposing team.”
“Good, maybe Purple will actually value my contributions!” Karol storms over to the Purple mat with a scowl.
“Ugh, now I’m stuck on a team with the Ogre, and the fatass,” Yul complains again, directing insults at Maggy and Oliver, but joins Teal, nonetheless. Only James seems happy to have him there, even in place of Karol.
“Let this be a reminder to you all how important first impressions are, and having a bad one could send you home.” Trevor & Derek explain the messaging of the first twist.
“Time to start the challenge! I have a surprise for you, no one will be eliminated today, only this time, you will play for a reward: Sleeping bags!” Challenge exposition, love it.
“Oh, you’ll need those. The night can get pretty chilly, but hey, if something happens, we can always find a replacement on the waiting list. I'll explain the challenge.” Derek adds to the explanation.
“Each team will have an area marked with a flag. One team member will be in charge of holding it while the others will have paintball guns to attack the opposing team and thus protect their flag. The first team to steal the opposing flag and bring it to the central zone, gets the reward.” Trevor finishes explaining the challenge.
“You can walk to your bases, and we'll give you a few minutes to plan your strategy,” Derek concludes.
Cut to Teal
Rosa Maria stands in the middle of the new Teal Team, “Okay, so what should our plan of attack be?”
“Let’s just leave Shrek here with the flag, as if any of those 7 could take down the she-beast.” Yul roasts the fuck out of Maggy, seemingly not worried about his old team voting him out a page ago.
Rosa looks infuriated. “Never speak to her again like that if you don’t want me to kick your ass.” Rosa moves back to a practical plan: “Maggy, Lake, and Aiden, and I will man the offense; you, James, and Oliver can handle defending the flag.”
Before Yul can interject, James voices his support, “Okay, we’ll stay back here.” Nudging Yul that he wants to talk once Rosa’s gone.
Cut to Purple
Karol immediately takes charge yet again, “Okay, people, we gotta kick some ass and make them pay for voting me out!”
“Woah slow down before you get kicked from this server too.” Ally points out.
Karol grumbles before reluctantly conceding, “I still think I’m the best choice for leader. Can you give me the chance?”
Ally, Hunter, Connor, Riya, Kai, and Tess seem fine with it despite Ally’s initial protest.
“Okay, so we’ll lead a double offensive to overwhelm them before they even know what hit them!” Karol says. “I can go with Connor & Riya from the side while Hunter & Ally attack from the front.” Ally seems happy to be paired with Hunter. “Kai & Tess, hang back and play defense, everyone understand their roles?” Karol actually cares about their input for once.
“Sounds good to me,” Tess says, taking a seat in the chair while Kai meditates on the ground.
…
“This challenge starts… now!” Derek starts the challenge…now.
The scene opens with James taking the chance to talk with his new teammate. “Looks like your old team didn’t want you around.” James states the obvious.
“Oh my god, I got stuck with a bunch of overly sensitive crybabies. If you’re here to lecture me, Imma stop you-“ Yul seems to accept 0 responsibility for getting voted out.
“Slow down, I’m offering an alliance, my followers mentioned you were big in South Korea,” James smirks. “Now that Karen is gone, my followers figure getting a group together is a good idea.”
“Oliver?” James acknowledges the Khia for the first time. “Guys' alliance sound good? If we get Aiden on board, we’ll basically be guaranteed the merge.”
“Oh, uhh, for sure.” Oliver strings a normal response together with great difficulty.
…
We see Karol, Connor, and Riya moving through the forest. Once Karol thinks they’ve gained enough distance from the rest of the team, Karol takes the chance to talk strategy with her fellow senior citizens.
Karol clears her throat. “So, I wanted to pitch something with you two.”
Riya raises an eyebrow, but motions for her to continue.
Karol nods. “Look, we’re the older folks here, I think we can all agree there.” Riya dies inside at 30 while Connor seems sad. “If we don’t stick together, the youngsters will pull the plugs on us.”
Riya resents being considered old, but thinks Karol makes a point. “An alliance between the 3 of us? Sure, I don’t want to waste my chance out here.”
Connor’s been silent for a bit. “Am I really that old?”
“Yes.” Karol gives him the hard truth without an ounce of care.
…
We see Tess holding the Purple flag while Kai meditates, waiting for the evil spirits to make themselves known. Because this isn’t restating the obvious, they aren’t alone.
Aiden, Lake, Maggy, and Rosa Maria burst out from the bushes, invading the camp, unfortunately Maggy’s heavy footsteps give their sneak attack away.
Tess just sighs and doesn’t make a move to get up, while Kai snags the flag through a dense clearing, with Aiden, Lake, and Rosa running after him, having to duck under branches and maneuvering through thorn fields.
Kai arrives at a bear cave after a few minutes of running. He thinks he's alone before bumping into the bus driver, while the Teal Defense is about to run into their Purple attackers.
Cut to Teal
“So, then my manager was bitching to me about the leaked footage of me allegedly pushing a woman down an escalator,” Yul tells a flabbergasted Oliver and nonchalant James a bit about where his career is at. He’s interrupted by a paintball to the balls fired by Ally.
“Killshot!” Ally laughs before mowing down Oliver. Who has the reaction time of a man splattered with a dozen paintballs.
“AGHHHHHHHH!” Yul screams in anguish while James fires back at Hunter & Ally.
While James is firing at Ally, Riya runs in and snags the flag while Karol & Connor fire at James from behind, quickly overwhelming the influencer.
…
Rosa Maria arrives at the cave where Kai isn’t paying attention despite her loud thrashing in the bushes. Rosa Maria is about to snag the flag, but sees what distracted the hippy.
It is not because Kai is a Taurus, but rather the deer corpse by the entrance, its hide littered with bullet holes.
Rosa Maria does not have time to ponder the scene, snagging the flag from Kai, who doesn’t react, and is trying to remember the way back to Trevor & Derek, unluckily Riya arrives first.
“And Riya wins reward for Purple Team; this challenge is over!” Derek announces.
Confessional: Rosa Maria
“Damn it, my first go at being the leader, and I blow it.” Rosa is disappointed in herself. “At least it wasn’t an immunity challenge.”
Conf End
Confessional Yul
“Those fucking assholes, I will make my old team pay if it is the last thing I do!” Yul has multiple ice packs on his numerous bruises. “…They ruined me.” Yul adds in a rare moment of sad vulnerability.
Conf End
“Purple team, you can come get your sleeping bags and head back to your tent.” Derek gives the happy Purple team their reward.
We see Karol celebrating the challenge win on Purple with the team seeming to take a liking to her now.
“Good strat Karol! Haven’t seen big brain plays like that since my Among Us days.” Ally praises.
“Definitely an upgrade from Yul, we’re glad to have you here.” Connor tries to welcome Karol more now that they’re actual allies.
“Agreed, I’m glad that the brat is out of this camp at least.” Riya doesn’t miss the chance to shade Yul.
“…” Kai is oddly silent despite the victory, seemingly lost in thought over what he saw in the forest.
“I’m going to bed, see y’all in the morning or whatever,” Tess calls the night early, not in the mood to socialize.
“Cmon, don’t you want to celebrate the victory with us?” Hunter tries to talk her into staying up with the team.
“Yeah, goodnight, Hunter.” Tess heads into the tent.
Karol waits for Tess to fall asleep before asking Kai a question. “Was she any help to you defending the flag, Kai? I just saw her sitting in the chair when we finished up.” Karol seems critical of Tess’s potential lack of contributions.
“Hey, it’s not right to talk about her while she isn’t here to defend herself.” Connor gently scolds.
“Yeah, save that for the morning.” Hunter joins in the defense of Tess.
“Fine, fine.” Karol tries to move past the social misplay. “Let’s rest up, we’ve got our first real challenge tomorrow, and we all need to be ready to pull our weight.
Confessional: Karol
“I think I’ve redeemed myself in the eyes of the team.” Karol seems reflective. “But I’m still not over the Teal team voting me out; they will all pay!”
Conf End
The camera’s final shot closes on a mugshot of Jensen, the bus driver, on some brick building back in civilization before the credits roll.
Voting Confessionals:
Purple Team:
Ally picks up the pen and quickly scribbles her vote, “Time to kick this toxic bully from the lobby!” flashing her vote for Yul.
Connor holds his vote for Yul, “I hate to have to be the adult, but Yul’s behavior has been horrible; maybe being a first boot will make him learn some respect.”
Hunter seems undecided, scratching out the first letters he wrote, “Yul can be a bit grating, but he seems to like me, so I’m voting the person I've connected with the least.” Hunter flips his ballot to show his vote for Yu-Riya.
Kai writes Yul without much thought, “Yul's aura is that of a storm cloud-- dark and foreboding.”
Riya also writes Yul down once she uncaps the pen, “I didn’t uproot my life to come here just to get talked down to by a brat!”
Tess lazily grabs the pen, “No use voting for anyone else, he doesn’t try to talk to me, which is nice, but who else would I vote for?” Tess places her vote for Yul in the ballot box.
Yul writes Connor down on the parchment, “That retirement home reject will not talk to me like that.”
Yul: Five Votes (Ally, Connor, Kai, Riya, Tess)
Connor: 1 vote (Yul)
Riya: 1 vote (Hunter)
Teal Team:
Aiden looks thoughtful before writing his vote for Karol. “I don’t really have anything against you, but James & Lake dislike you, don’t need to make waves on the first vote.”
“Didn’t even need to lose the challenge, Karen is going down, Costa for the win!” James has a huge grin as he holds up his vote for Karol.
Karol seems unsure of who to vote, before picking up the pen and writing James. “Everyone’s been pulling their weight, but your social media addiction is going to be the death of you when your phone dies.”
“There’s not enough Tylenol here to justify voting anyone else.” Lake holds her vote for Karol.
“I told James I’d vote for you, maybe I can finally make a friend?’ Maggy flashes her vote for Karol uncertainly.
Oliver takes a deep breath to stop his hands from shaking. “This is for everyone who’s ever doubted me, fuck off, McLean! I mean Karol!” Oliver awkwardly corrects while holding his vote for Karol. (Obviously)
Rosa Maria seems decided, quickly writing Karol. “The way she talks to us is horrible. She may be strong, but I think Lake will be happier seeing her go.”
Karol: 6 votes (Aiden, James, Lake, Maggy, Oliver, Rosa Maria)
James: 1 vote (Karol)
