Pope Heyward POV;
"Hey asshole!" I turned, confused. "Yeah, you. You're in the way." A blond man yelled at me, he looked fucked up. Busted. Almost like he just got out of a fight. "My bad," I moved over, "Pogue.." Kelce, the friend I was with, mumbled under his breath. We moved over so we don't get shoved over, or at least I thought so. He, the blond guy, threw his surfboard down onto the sand. I just ignored him, continuing to talk to Kelce. He was one of the few Kooks my age I actually enjoyed being around. Of course, being a Kook means I don't get a choice anyways, all our parents knew each other so it was basically impossible for us to be separated.
"That's JJ, you probably don't remember him." Kelce scoffed as he stared at JJ. "I don't, he's a pogue? We would've never met." I shrugged. "You don't remember? He totally ruined your huge goodbye party four years ago," Kelce rolled his eyes, as if he found this whole situation ridiculous. "Huh, I don't remember, guess he really hated me," I shrugged again, I didn't really care, he's a Pogue after all. "He hates all Kook's don't worry about him, he's a total idiot." Kelce sighed, looked over at JJ again. "We should go before his stupid friends show up." Kelce started getting all the full beer bottles, I tried to grab the empty ones but Kelce told me to leave them, saying, "The Pogues will pick em' up," he chuckled after.
Unfortunately this is why I left years ago, Kook's are slobs who do nothing and expect everything done for them, Pogues are loud and do the stupidest shit. Everyone on the island just gets stupider. That's why I hated everyone here. So I left, went to a nice school, I got smart, normal. Then my parents begged me to show up again this summer, and here I am. Hanging out with Kelce, making stupid decisions. Four years away and now I'm becoming an idiot here again. "Come on, they are just trouble and I don't want to deal with it." Kelce started walking off, so I followed. Leaving the stupid empty beer bottles everywhere. "You guys don't get in trouble for that stuff?" I asked, "This isn't LA, no one cares, no fancy bullshit school here." Kelce laughed at me, as if I was being crazy. "My fault for following Cali rules." I chuckled. "Cali? Wow, really getting used to it over there?" "Of course, they don't do the stupid Kook and Pogue stuff over there." I nudged him.
We ended up in the parking area, ready to go somewhere else, but we almost get ran over instead. "Holy shit!" I yelled, shoving Kelce out of the way, but I froze as a Volkswagen van stops right in front of me. Inches away. Some girl stuck her head out. "Watch out, fuckers!" Kelce yelled, the girl looked at him, flipping him off. I stared at the girl, "Kiara?" I asked out, she quickly looked at me. "Oh." She said. Oh is right. She's a Pogue now? Some guy left the front seat, some girl behind him. Rafe's sister, Sarah. Oh again. "Thanks for almost running me over.." I rolled my eyes as they don't say shit. No apology. No nothing. "Look man, that's my fault, I'm sorry." The man said, clearly buzzed. "Whatever."
See, stupid. I walked over to Kelce. "I forgot they don't think here." I grumbled. Kelce just laughed at me, "Have time to relax? You know, since you're not doing anything school related now," He nudged me. I knew what he was suggesting. A stupid party. Probably Rafe's party. Famous Cameron party. "Trying to get me killed? My parents will kill me if I come home high or drunk." "You already drank, plus, you don't have to get high, only if you want to." Kelce shrugged, "Just relax!" Kelce hit my arm. Little asshole. "You relax when you have my father breathing down your neck. Plus, Kook status means nothing when you live in a place where everyone is also rich." I sighed, placing my arm onto his shoulder.
"The day you have fun is the day I die." Kelce said dramatically. "You're an idiot, if you want to go to the party then go, I might stay to enjoy the view a little longer." I patted his back, stopping there. "I mean, if you insist." Kelce grinned, "Have fun, don't be boring." He added and then started walking towards his car. I watched as he pulled out and left, waving bye. I must've looked lonely, but I liked it better like that. Being lonely here is like reading classic literature in a children's library, to everyone else I seem like the idiot, but I'm the only who knows I'm not. I'd like to keep it like that. And contrary to Kelce's belief, I was having fun.
I turned, going back on the beach. JJ and his friends were taking over the space. Surfboards scattered. They were laughing, having real fun. Different from the fun I was having. I was slightly jealous, it seemed so easy for them. Maybe one day I'll laugh like that. Just not now. I'm much too busy, I have responsibilities, they clearly don't. I may be a Kook but my father wasn't originally one, he never let me become like the stuck up Kook's, I had to work for everything just like he did. So really, I didn't fit in anywhere. Too humble for the Kooks, too responsible for the Pogues. So I'm stuck in this weird in between. While I was sulking, I was unaware of what was going on around me. Blissfully ignorant to the fact that JJ, Kiara, Sarah, and the other guy were being idiots.
BAM — straight to my head! A beer can hitting me so hard it made me stumble. "What the fuck," I mumbled, catching the can after it fell from my head. Then JJ showed up. He made a face, grimacing. "Do you assholes just target people?" I threw his can back at him. Clearly I was annoyed, but I wasn't a very aggressive person so the most he was going to get out of me was a lengthy conversation. "Yes, because we care so much about how you Kooks think about us," JJ said sarcastically. He still looked ridiculous, his face bruised. I wanted to ask about it but that wasn't my place. "It really seems like it." I scoffed. "My apologies, I didn't know you were the white knight of Kooklandia." JJ bowed down, as if actually speaking to someone important.
"Anyways, thanks chief, needed this back, littering, not cool, you know. Pretty bad for the environment," JJ nodded, like it was some new information. "Okay?" "Save.. the animals." He walked backwards. My eyes narrow, his pause was.. oddly comedic. "You do that then," I mimicked his nodding. "See you later, Bubbles, let me know when the rest of the PowerPuff girls are with you!" He chuckled as he turned and ran back to his friends. Idiot. To think he apparently ruined some party, that seemed like a surprise. I couldn't believe he could even do something like that purposefully, he most definitely didn't seem smart enough to plan anything relatively good, nonetheless rememberable enough for Kelce to not forget it too. The rest of the group must hate him. Topper's and Rafe's short tempers could most definitely not handle JJ longer than ten seconds, I could hardly handle him for however long that conversation was.
