Chapter Text
Head girl.
The Badge seemed to glow in her hand as Hermione looked at it, of course it was not the first time she had looked at it.
No, her mother Lily had been the one to notice that her hogwarts letter this year seemed heavier than normal and handed it to Lily with a sort of excitement she wasn't use to seeing from the red haired serious mother she had grown to love throughout her years.
Her father sat with his long black hair framing his face, a small smile hiding behind his copy of the daily prophet, as if he knew something that she didn't. Which thinking back, was very possible that he did, being the next in line for Deputy headmaster after professor Mcgonagall. He also would suggest her name for something like this if he knew he would have any sway in the deciding.
She was the top of her year, followed closely by the prat Malfoy, and his close friend Nott. And of course there was the Headmasters favorite. One he never made any attempt to hide as a favorite, Potter.
Holding the gold badge she looked at in in the light looking one last time before shoving it gently into her skirt pocket as she grabbed her latest book that she had decided to leave out of her trunk so she could read on the train.
"Hermione dear are you ready?" Her mother's voice trailed up the stairs of the small cottage to her room and she grinned. "Yup! Coming!" She called back, her trunk already packed in the car, her robes in the small pack and the orange squashed faced cat her mother had since school, given to Hermione as a companion already in his cage.
Taking on last look at her room as she hoisted her bag over her shoulder, she took a look at herself in the mirror quickly. Her brown hair, with hints of red when the sun hit it right, was up in a high pony tail the curls a mess that matched her green eyes in their feistiness. Something she had certainly gotten from her mother. Her long thin body and pale almost sallow skin from her father as she had grown a bit again now passing most girls her age at 5' 10".
Not that it really mattered to her.
Glancing around the room at her posters she had made of potions, ingredients, spells and famous wizards plastered all over as well as photos of her with he Patil twins, Cho Chang and Luna Lovegood.
This was her last year at the school that had become her home, after this she would be applying for the ministry, hoping to someday become Minister of Magic, there she would change things. How muggleborns like her mother were treated, how creatures like house-elves were basically slaves and so many more ideas she had written in her journal.
Turning from the green and soft yellow themed room, with a hint of accents of her house color and mascot she headed down the stairs.
"Dad already gone?"
"Yes, he said he would see you tonight at the feast." Lily said kissing the side of Hermione's head since Hermione was now taller than her mother.
"Makes sense, could have at least gave me a hug before he turned into professor Snape again." She said with a playful pout and Lily rolled her eyes checking her list, pretending to ignore her daughters clingy attitude.
"He is professor Snape, technically even when summer vacation is in session."
"Eh, nah, he's just dad then."

The train was busy as usual, the whole station had been packed with new students and old, all making their way to compartments and finding their friends. Families saying goodbye, animals making noises.
If it wasn't for her excitement, Hermione would have had a headache from all the noise that seemed to press in on her as she walked down the compartment. She had put on her robes already since she had gotten here earlier than most since she had duties as head girl, the pin sitting proudly on her robe in plain view.
To her irritation the head boy had not been there yet to help divide up the prefects from all the houses and tell them what to watch for. Thankfully the Weasley twins had graduated a couple years before this and started a business. Dealing with them would have been a nightmare on her first day as Head Girl.
Making her rounds she saw the three Slytherins she knew would be trouble this year, Nott and Malfoy in view first. Malfoy having been a prefect last year but the role having been given to the Nott boy this year. She already knew she would hear complaining from the blonde about how unfair it was that his power was taken, or how their should be more than one prefect from his house so he could be one as well. Something she was use to from the whiny privileged boy she had grown to loathe over the years.
However it was then she saw a gleam of a badge on the messy haired black boy sitting next to Nott. The same golden gleam that shown from her own chest.
Pressing her lips together she opened the compartment, only to earn a sneer from Malfoy, his nose upturned as if he had smelled something awful. Ignoring him and the Nott who didn't even acknowledge her entrance she turned to Potter.
There it sat on his robes.
Head Boy.
Of course Potter, Dumbledores favorite boot licking asshole, would be head boy. All her excitement of change slowly drained from her already pale face as she met Potters eyes, her green ones meeting his blue ones that sat behind his round glasses. Hers full of rage, his full of....boredom.
Fucking Merlin. So much for a good year.
