Work Text:

Your mind barely registered the fact that it was 30 degrees out as you leaned against one of the trees in the secret woods, sinking down onto the cold snow that coated the prickly grass. Your arms tightly clutched your knees to your chest as the chilly air and frosty snow started to burn your skin; focusing on the freezing temperatures against your body was your only attempt at thinking about something other than your argument with Harvey.

You didn’t know how much time had passed as you sat there, a waterfall cascading down your face. Your mind went blank the moment you stormed out of the farmhouse, the anger having vanished the second you felt the chill of the winter air. Your injuries from the mines have been more frequent, which meant that the quarrels about how dangerous it was were occurring more often as well.

“N/N, you’re going to get sick!” came a worried voice as a strong set of arms gently wrapped themselves around you, their body feeling like a furnace compared to yours. He continued, concern palpable in his voice as he went into doctor mode, “You’re frozen, you need to get inside and warm up.”

You looked up at him with tear-stained cheeks, trying to focus your blurred vision on his sudden presence next you. The moment your eyes met his, you turned away from him, burying your head in your knees to avoid meeting his gaze. You felt him lift you up into his arms, the warmth of his body comforting as you shivered slightly. You were finally starting to process how cold it was at the moment.

You didn’t try to protest as he began to carry you back to the farm; you simply nuzzled your head in the crook of his neck, tears trickling down your face again. You didn’t mean to make him worry, you never did. The mines were just so important if you wanted to be able to get the resources needed to make advancements with the farm - the farm that your late grandpa entrusted you with. You didn’t know what to do. You hated constantly arguing with Harvey over it, but you also hated the idea of not getting the materials it provided.

You barely reacted as he set you down on the bed, tucking you underneath a mountain of blankets and pressing a very hot compress to your forehead. Your head lolled to the side, sinking into the comfy pillow. You heard Harvey set down a mug of tea on the bedside table for when you felt up to it, and then you felt the mattress sink slightly as he crawled into bed next to you. He enveloped his arms around you, pressing you against him as he placed a soft kiss to your head.

Neither one of you spoke. You just stayed in his warm embrace, still shivering slightly. You knew that you both would need to reach a compromise with the whole mine situation sooner or later, but you didn’t want to think about that right now. For the moment, you just silently laid there in bed and savored the feeling of Harvey’s body against yours. This was enough.
