Work Text:
It had been cold for a few weeks, the days were getting shorter and the summer had come to an end. The air outside was so crisp and cool, and the setting sun in the evenings was wonderful. The black cat sat on the porch of no 10 nervy st, anywhere 13305 every night and day, he would just sit and watch the world around him change. He didn’t like change but the world moved and the people changed. It was an inevitable change. The black cat yawned, then leaped off the porch, he was heading for the pond in the front yard. The pond he would come to offend.
Within that pond was koi, three koi, he watched them swim in the dark water, his tale swished in the same motion of the fish. A loud bang from the front door startled the black cat from his peace. a little girl ran out of the house laughing at her brothers who trailed after her. The laughs were newer, he had known the laughs of the parents when they were the little girl’s age, but now newer kids ran down the street and the laughs faded. All three of the kids were wrapped in thick coats and scarves, the girl had on big yellow rain boots. She kicked a puddle in the black cat’s direction.
The boys, who were wearing blue rubber boots, began slowing down their running and laughing to see if the black cat was okay, they knew he didn’t like the rain puddles let alone the little girl. The cat ran with the, now, setting sun, and The kids watched the day turn to dusk, and listened to the birds. It was raining and the wind was whistling through the trees, and the trees were swaying to the sounds of the creek.
It was the sound of autumn that followed after the rain, the sounds of the leaves and the cracking of a twig that made it feel distant. Like the memories far and close to you. The puddles in the front lawn glistened in the lamp light And The black cat sat once again on the porch within the dark, watching for morning and hiding from the things he wanted to forget. Again and again the life around him changed. But the new world was long, and something he would never want to miss.
