"Please- just stay here with me," The Queen held Eliza's hand, hidden in the ballroom, "We could run away, far away. Away from the revolution, away from the war. You won't have to be married to that man. Please."
"You know I can't do that," Eliza whispered, leaning her forehead against hers, "We'll be found, and what happens when they do? We'll be shunned, society would never accept our love to be true."
"So let us be shunned, Elizabeth, I don't care if it means having you."
Eliza kissed Charlotte, "In another lifetime, I promise."
"Promise me?"
"I'll find you in every universe," Eliza kissed her again, "I promise." Then, like a fire put out in a rainy storm, she disappeared back into the crowd of the ballroom, her blue dress blending into the sea of colors.
~~~
"WHITE FLAG, THEY'RE PUTTING UP A WHITE FLAG!" The General shouted, keeping his bayonet drawn at the Mexicans, and Eli stood up, fixing his uniform.
"Well, let's go." He said, making sure his uniform didn't reveal his true gender, pulling himself out of the trench and onto the battlefield, and the Mexican kept waving his flag. The war had been brutal, was this the last battle? Would the Americans gain Texas?
The Mexican General and some others were taken in to negotiate terms, and there was a flash of running in Eli's vision.
One of them was trying to escape.
"I'll get him!" Eli yelled, chasing after the runaway, his feet kicking up soil as he went, "Get back here!" He screamed, and the man just kept running. Eli, however, was determined, and managed to tackle the Mexican to the ground.
The two men stared at each other, panting. Eli soon realized that the Mexican was also a woman disguised as a man. The person spoke.
"Elizabeth? I-Is that you?" He- no, she asked.
"Charlotte?" She asked, breathless, realizing that the name on her uniform, 'Charles,' would make perfect sense. Her face lit up, "I told you that I'd find you in every universe..."
"Please- can we run away this time?" Charlotte pleaded, and Eliza nodded, and they ran off into Mexican territory, which would soon be Texas.
They managed to stay out of sight of both the Mexican and American governments for 5 years, before Charlotte was found to be a soldier and sentenced to death for treason. Charlotte never ratted Eliza out.
Eliza never wanted to cry harder in her entire life.
~~~
"Charlotte... is that you?" Rain was pouring down in sheets, and Eliza held an umbrella over her head.
"Das kann nicht sein... (It can't be)" Charlotte muttered under her breath, turning to face Eliza. She stood directly in front of a restaurant, told to keep watch while a group of Nazis spoke, "Wer bist du? (Who are you?)"
"It's me, Eliza..." She responded, her eyes filled with anger, "You're a Nazi."
Charlotte's eyes softened, switching to English, "Eliza, please. You know I would never do this. I had to. It was either my life or- or this! We promised to find each other- I just want to live one life with you. Just one," Someone was walking towards the pair. Another Nazi. Charlotte whisked Eliza away into an alley. "We never speak of this. I'll find you in the next lifetime, and I promise you. I promise that we'll be okay. Go."
Eliza nodded firmly, feeling slightly betrayed, but ran off into the night. She would be captured and killed a week later by the same group that Charlotte had been guarding on that dreadful night.
~~~
Charlotte walked along the streets of New York, humming along to "Your New Boyfriend" in her headphones.
Someone in a frog hoodie and excessive blush bumped into her, who was playing "Life By the Sea" out loud. Charlotte gasped, "You listen to Tubbo too?!" She helped the girl up, who paused her music and stared.
"Charlotte?!"
"ELIZA?!" Charlotte squealed, picking up the girl and spinning her around, embracing her and pulling her into a more secluded spot and forcing her to sit on a bench, "Almost 250 years since we first met, isn't that crazy?"
"Oh god- don't remind me. I personally liked the revolution, that was like- the only one where I didn't have to worry about you dying," Eliza sighed, dropping her voice so passerbys wouldn't hear, "What was up with the Nazi thing? I've actually wondered about that for a while."
"Oh, they threatened to kill my family and I after they saw me conspiring with some Jewish males," Charlotte answered quietly, "We were going to bomb one of the major German bases near Auschwitz. What happened to you?"
"Firing squad like a week later. Also with the Mexican/American war I ended up dying peacefully," Eliza responded, "Hopefully we'll be able to fulfil that promise now, huh?"
Charlotte laughed, elbowing her, "Where are you staying? Do you have a cat? I love cats. I'm still staying with my parents." Charlotte gasped, "Can I move in with you like we did during the 1800s?!"
"So full of questions, huh?" Eliza joked, "Sure, I've been looking for a streamer buddy anyways, wanna go play Minecraft?"
Charlotte perked up, "Hell yeah."
