For The Better…?

Summary:

ok so basically there’s this little fella called The Seeker, who is the slugcat of this campaign. Falling Spears, an Iterator who is about to be melted into the Void Sea because of the horrible earthquakes that slowly lower his chamber. he has a fascination with biomechanics, and built The Seeker with powerful legs. (like a miros bird!!) The Seeker was intended to convey a message to House of Sorrow, a good friend of Falling Spears who lives on a massive mountain.
this is TECHNICALLY optional to read in the narrative im making (that’s why im writing it first so it doesn’t have to be good and it can be optional so you don’t have to read this trainwreck) and mainly serves to provide some exposition about the characters and this part of the rain world universe!! enjoy

Notes:

at the very very beginning it’s kinda comforting

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter Text

(Falling Spears’ P.O.V)

Soft, golden, shimmering lights twirled like ribbons in the dim room, almost dancing.

As The Seeker laid their head down (which was quite hard to do with their modified legs), they jolted awake at the sound of a sharp laugh.

“‘…HA!’ I said, I mean, who could ever imagine an iterator drinking ALL the water in their respective area? It’s silly! So I told them-“
Falling Spears paused as he felt a light tap on his hip. He looked and saw The Seeker peeking one eye open at him, a look of…was that…exasperation on their face?

“Ah, sorry. I…must have been rambling again, haven’t I? You can go ahead and take your nap now.” Falling Spears quietly said, patting The Seeker’s head. (and then wiping off the wetness that slugcats innately had on their skin…)

He sat there in silence for a few moments, just…staring at The Seeker. He was never too confident in his skills at modifying lifeforms, but The Seeker was definitely the best creature he had ever made!

…well, MADE is…maybe a bit untrue, he did only modify a slugpup, after all.

Falling Spears had always had a fascination with the act of modifying creatures, and he spent WAY too much time gushing about it to other iterators, to the point where he looked obsessed.

Of course, he wasn’t a moron, and he knew that talking about it ALL THE TIME would be exhausting for other iterators.

He knew that he could always talk to his best friend House of Sorrow about it though, so it was alright! They haven’t been in contact for a while with him though…it’s probably because of the bad signal on the mountain, right..?

Ah, screw it! Spears had been worried about old Sorrow for a while now. Surely sending an overseer to his can would be a good idea…? He knew that they had been suffering from some…issues, so to speak, in their memory processes.

So, Falling Spears called an overseer that was nearby, and gently took out its little eye, putting a pearl with House of Sorrow’s coordinates inside of it, and putting the eye back in.

As Spears watched the overseer squeeze through the cracks of his can, he leaned back on the cold floor, making sure not to slide down his tilted chamber. He could see the Void Fluid already seeping through the crevices, and he didn’t want to think about what would happen if he came into contact with it.

And as Spears watched the mechanical patterns that flickered across his walls constantly, (as per what usually happened when his mind was restless) he found himself absentmindedly petting the Seeker, anxiously waiting for his overseer’s return.

it gets WAY less comforting be wary
