Work Text:
Jekyll opened her eyes to the sound of her blood sugar alarm. She thought she had been doing well with being stable throughout the night, but her body clearly had other plans for her on this fine evening. Why would she ever expect any sense of security from her own body? It's never respected her before.
She fumbled with her insulin pump, pulling it from her waistband. Her glucose was reading somewhere around 3.2 mmol/L, dropping lower by the moment. She was surprised she could read it that clearly. Her glasses were on the nightstand, and she hadn't bothered to pick them up while the alarm was going off.
She glanced up at the mirror, seeing the familiar face of Hyde illuminated by the dull artificial light. Not that it mattered to her right now, she held more interest in not dying in the middle of the night. It was a problem for a future Henrietta to handle.
Grabbing the first juice box she found was an utmost awful idea. There were many failed attempts to stab the straw through the box due to her shaking hands. Normally it would've been dramatically worse, but being in Ellie's form gave her much better vision in the dead of night. As soon as she took a sip, her mouth was full of the oh-so familiar taste of mould.
She found her way to the restroom, instinctively fumbling for the light switch, blinding herself with the overhead lamp. She spit into the sink before resting her head on the edge of it. Blood sugar felt like the least of her concerns at that moment, despite the fact that it was mostly amplifying all of them.
She just wanted to go back to sleep.
Something brushed against her leg, and her head snapped up. She glanced around nervously before looking down at what was evidently her own tail. Looked like someone had forgotten about one of the more obvious features of her secondary form.
Dragging herself back to her bedroom was a hassle. She was stumbling over her own feet, barely able to turn her doorknob. It needed to be replaced, round doorknobs were nearly impossible to hold onto when you're half dead. Or fully alive, for that matter. She tripped over a portion of carpet that had come undone and rolled over onto itself, and she was ready to keel over and pass out right there. She drank the only juice box that appeared to be mould free before collapsing onto her bed, face down.
Hopefully it would go up fast enough for her to get some real sleep.
