Chapter Text

"Bye mom!", a young blue heeler called out to her mother as she excitedly ran over to her mates. "Have fun with your friends Bluey!" her mother called back as she left. Bluey looked back through the front door window, watching as her mom drived away, only to be interrupted by one of her pals. "Bluey!" The heeler turned and before she knew it, she was in the tight arms of one of her fellow classmates. "Jack!" she excitedly called out, hugging him back as the two giggled together. "We were wondering when you would show up, where have you been? What took you so long?" the over excited pup questioned, his tail wagging happily. "Oh, mom forgot to wake us up early!" Bluey said in response, giggling a bit. Jack tilted his head. "How did she forget to wake you up?"

20 minutes earlier

"Hey honey, aren't you gonna wake the kids up? They're gonna be late for school at this rate...", a groggy Bandit Heeler asked. "mmhhh... its Sunday Bandit..." an equally as groggy Chilli responded, pulling the covers over her more and closing her eyes to fall back asleep. "Chilli, yesterday was Sunday, remember? You had that appointment with Sherry." A few seconds later, Chilli's eyes opened up and she shot out of bed. "Oh Buiscits! Kids, kids wake up we're gonna be late!", she called, panic in her voice as Bandit sat up to check his phone. "Oh, wait, wait, correction honey." Chilli looked back in their room, a glimmer of hope in her eyes. "You guys actually are late." Bandit said, giving a cheeky grin. "Ahgggg!" Chilli yelled out, as a confused blue heeler came out of her room, tired and not yet fully awake. "Whats happen-" she wasn't even able to finish her sentence before being swiped up by Chilli. "Get ready for school, quick! We're going to be late!"

Bluey and Jack giggled together as Bluey told him all about what happened. "She literally carried Bingo into the car! Hehehe! It was crazy!" "She did!? Wow! I remember dad one time had to carry me to the car because I was sick." Jack replied, talking with Bluey as they made their way towards the other side of the room. Just as they were going to continue talking about their tales, a voice caught their attention. "Hey Bluey!", a Red Kelpie said he walked up to the two. "Hi Rusty!" she said. "What are you playing?", Bluey asked the two boys quizatively. "Oh, we're not playing anything right now." said Rusty. "Yeah, we've just been all sitting in the treehouse. Rusty was on the lookout for you.", Jack added. "I had to look out for my fellow soldier!" Rusty said, doing a little salute. "Oooh, was Mackenzie with you?" Bluey asked, her tail twitching a bit as she asked. "Oh, yeah! He's over in the treehouse with us!", Jack quickly exclaimed. "Oooo! Alright! Lets go then!", Bluey quickly bounced back, quickly getting to the door before Jack grabs her shoulder. "Wait a second!" he said, making Bluey, alongside poor Rusty who was trying his best to keep up with her, to stop. "I'm gonna use the toilet real quick, I'll catch up with you guys at the tree house." he explained, barely getting the time to explain before Bluey was getting ready to bolt out the door. "Oh, alright Jack! See you there!" "Wait! Wait up Bluey!" Rusty tried to desperately call out as he quickly ran towards the door to try and keep up with the over excited pup. "We'll catch you at the lookout point soldier!" Rusty said to Jack, giving him a salute before running off, Jack giving his own salute in return before walking back towards the bathroom.

Bluey ran excitedly up the hill, the wind blowing against her fur and the grass crunching below her feet as she got closer and closer to not just the treehouse, but her closest mate in the world. Inside the treehouse, a black and white Border Collie sat, looking out the window as the wind blew against his face, before he heard a certain someone calling his name. "Mackenzieeeee!" Bluey called out as she dashed closer towards the hill, making Mackenzies tail stiffen for a moment, before beginning to wag with excitement as he turned around, looking out the opposite window to see his best friend starting to climb the hill, waving her arms wildly at him. "Bluey!" he exclaimed, giving a small wave in return, giggling as she waved wildly. "Hahhh, hahh, Bluey! Hahh, wait up!" a tired and panting Rusty called out weakly as he tried to catch up. Mackenzie chuckled a bit as he saw Rusty trying to get up the hill. "You okay Rusty?" "She's really really fast!" Rusty exclaimed, hands on his knees as he got up to the base of the tree. Mackenzie continued to giggle a bit at Rusty's state, before noticing that Bluey wasn't at the base of the tree. The pup looked around, confused before turning around. "What'cha lookin for?" Bluey said, right behind the poor Border Collie. "Gah! Bluey, when the heck did you get up here? How did you get up here so fast!?" Mackenzie jumped back, startled by Bluey's sudden appearance. "Pffft hehehehe! Sorryyyy, I didn't mean to scare you! What can I say? I've just gotten good at climbing really really fast lately!" she retorted, causing the both of them to laugh a little. "I take back what I said about you keeping up with her" Rusty said playfully as he climbed on in. "Where's Jack?" Mackenzie asked, tilting his head a bit. "Oh, he just had to use the bathroom, he'll be back in a bit!" Rusty explained, Mackenzie nodding in response. "Well, until then, how about YOU explain where you were! We were wondering where you had been!" Mackenzie asked, poking Bluey gently, making her giggle and her tail flutter a little. "Oh, just mom being silly and forgetting to wake us up, its a long story, I'll tell you about it later!" Bluey said, turning to face Rusty who had a small smirk on his face.

"Hm?" Bluey softly questioned. Mackenzie looked at her, a bit confused, before looking at Rusty and noticing his expression. "Huh? What's that look huh?" he asked, Rusty not giving a response in return. "What's that look Rusty?" Bluey asked, Rusty cracking a little. "What look?", he asked, his smirk only becoming more obvious as he had a harder time holding in... whatever it was he was holding in. "You only have that look when you are up to something cheeky!" Bluey accusingly said, pointing a stick at Rusty. "Explain yourself, or face the wrath of Bluey!" she playfully exclaimed. Mackenzie smiled at Bluey's playful personality, stuck looking at her as she confidently yet still in a playful tone asked her question to the Red Kelpie. "Wellll..." Rusty started, looking out the window before scooting closer to the two dogs. "Don't tell Jack I told you about this, buttttt..." As Rusty began to spill, Bluey and Mackenzie slowly got closer, Rusty's smirk only growing as he spoke. "I heard him call Honey, Honey Bun." Bluey let out a small gasp while Mackenzie gave a confused expression. "For real life? What did she say in return? Did she say anything else?", Bluey excitedly asked, quickly getting closer to Rusty, desperate for more. "She let out a gasp and just stopped, and she was like, all red n stuff!" Rusty explained, Bluey's jaw dropping a little as she excitedly listened in on the gossip. "Her face just got more and more red until she just ran away! I don't know why, maybe she got sick? Your face gets red when your sick, right?" Bluey scrambled for her words before blurting out. "She was blushing!!! Her face being red was her blushing Rusty! Oooooo Honey and Jaaaack kissing in a-" "Quiet down Bluey!" Rusty said as he tried to hold her muzzle together to shush her. "Don't tell him I told you about that!" Bluey nodded excitedly as Rusty let go of her muzzle, before finally Mackenzie spoke up. "So- um, Rusty! What game are we gonna play today?"

Rusty looked back towards him. "Oh, uhhhh you wanna play army?" Bluey looked over at Mackenzie, Mackenzie looked over at Bluey. "I-if you..." "O-oh, I mean, i-if you..." The two awkwardly looked at one another, before they both turned and nodded. "Heh, alright then! Private Mackenzie, Private Bluey, we will be patrolling through..." Rusty points over towards the bamboo. "The bamboo forest! We must patrol for any enemies, perform our daily exercises, check up on..." As rusty talked about the army, Mackenzie found himself distracted by none other then the blue heeler girl next to him, noticing her patterns with her fur, her adorable nose, and especially those eyes. As he looked into her eyes, she looked into his. The two looked away, softly blushing. "Oi! Got all that?" Bluey and Mackenzie stiffened. "Sir yes sir!" they called out. "Good, you will need to remember all that! Catch you guys down by the bamboo!" Rusty called out as he climbed down out of the treehouse, quickly dashing off into the bamboo, saluting the two dogs before disappearing into the plants and into the forest.

An awkward silence took over as they sat together. Bluey looked over towards Mackenzie, and he looked back towards her, the two quickly darting their eyes apart as the awkwardness only grew. "Um, sooo..." Bluey started, her hands in her lap as she looked up towards the ceiling and then back to Mackenzie. "Jack and Honey, huh?" she asked, Mackenzie back toward her. "Huh?" "Do you think they'd, like, yknow..." Bluey began to ask, Mackenzie tilting his head more. "... like be boyfriend and girlfriend." Mackenzie thought for a moment. "I mean, I dunno. I feel like Jack likes Rusty more." "But Rusty's a boy!" Bluey exclaimed. "So?" "Jack is a boy! Aren't boys supposed to date girls?" Bluey said, confusion in her voice. "I dunno! My mom says I can date other boys if I want to!" "Oh... I've never heard of a boy dating another boy..." The two stayed a bit quiet, before Bluey asked. "Are you going to date a boy?" "No no! I wouldn't wanna date a boy!" Bluey chuckled a bit. "Your so silly Border Boy!" Mackenzie froze up as he heard that name from her. A soft tint of red appeared on his face. He felt a strange feeling rise up in his chest, one that felt... good, but at the same time like nothing he had felt before, it was almost overwhelming. "Mackenzie?" Quickly his mind flashed back from Bluey calling his name. "Heheh, someone's clearly happy." She said, a smirk on her face. "W-Wha? Huh? W-W-What do you mean. H-H-Huh?" He stammered over his own words, her smirk making him lose his composure more. She pointed towards his tail, which he only just realized was wagging like crazy, causing him to blush even more! "I-I- Um- Well-" "Haha, did you really like the nickname that much, Border boooooooy?" She said playfully, a giggle escaping her as she ate up his fluster. She soon looked out the window, letting the wind blow against her face a bit. "Heh, I didn't thi-"

"Hey guys!" Jack said as he popped his head through the ladder, making the two jump. "Gah! Oh, hey Jack." "Heyya Jack." Jack looked around. "Hey, where's Rusty?" he asked. "Oh, right! Rusty is over in the bamboo forest! We're going to play Army!" Bluey explained. "Oh, okay! I'll go catch up to him! You gonna come?" The two dogs looked at each other before looking back. "We'll catch up in a bit, tell Rusty we'll be back soon! We're just- um- talking!" Bluey nervously explained. "Talking about what?" Jack asked, seemingly noticing the two dogs expressions. "Uh, nothing! Just, talking about, um-" "How Winton is so weird!" Mackenzie quickly blurted out. "He's sooooo obsessed with being buff, he's so weird! Right Jack?" "Oh yeah, he is, but thats just Winton for ya. Alright, just try not to take too long, we must serve our great country of Australia!" he said before climbing down the ladder and quickly dashing off.

The two were left alone once more, an awkwardness hovering over the two. "Heh..." Mackenzie's ears perked up. "Hm?" he looked over at her curiously. "I didn't think a little nickname would get you THAT happy." Mackenzie sat in the corner of the treehouse, looking up at the ceiling. "Well, its just, I dunno. It just, feels nice, yknow? I mean, honestly, everything we do together feels nice." Bluey looked at him and smiled, sitting closer to him. "Yeah, I think its nice to be with you to." She said, her own tail slowly swaying. "I just really like being with you, yknow? Your so fun." "Heh, I..." This time, Bluey was at a bit of a loss for words. His words hit hard, but in a way that felt nice, she scooted a bit closer. "Your so kind to me Mackenzie." "Heh, how could I not be kind to someone as great as you?" Bluey giggled and blushed a bit, her tail slowly moving faster. She scooted closer once more, making Mackenzie's tail continue to sway slowly with hers. This feeling, he didn't know what it was. It was so overwhelming, too overwhelming. He was hardly able to focus his mind as he tried to understand what was going on in his mind, what he was feeling in his body. His chest tightened, his heart raced, he didn't understand what was going on. Suddenly, a hand was on his shoulder. "Mackenzie?" Mackenzie snapped back to reality as Bluey placed her hand on his shoulder. "You went quiet for a little bit, you alright? Your breathing a bit heavily..." Mackenzie went a bit quiet. "W-Well, Bluey I ju-"

"Sorry! Forgot my hat." Mackenzie and Bluey jumped as Jack quickly climbed back and grabbed his hat, looking back over and seeing the two backed into the corner. "Uhhhh, what are you two doing?" "N-Nothing! Um- um-" Mackenzie flustered with his words as he backed away a bit from Bluey. Jack looked between the two, quickly taking notice of their tails. "D-Do you um- want me to just leave you two alo-" "HEY we should uh, go catch up to Rusty! He uh, I imagine he prolly is mad at us!" Bluey called out. "Oh uh yeah! I completely forgot!" Mackenzie said in agreement, before being interrupted by Bluey's hand grabbing his. "Cmo-" Mackenzie pulled back. "I um- I I need to assess some military files! Y-You guys go on ahead!" Bluey and Jack looked at each other. "Um- a-are you sure? Alone?" Bluey asked. "Y-Yeah, I can do it alone. I'll catch up, I-I promise." Bluey and Jack looked at each other again, before Bluey finally spoke up. "Alrighty then. We'll be off. Private Bluey reporting for duty!" Jack and Bluey quickly climbed down the ladder, with Bluey looking back up at the now lone border collie, who was still sat at the window. "Don't take too long Mackenzie! See you in the battlefield!"

As she and Jack ran off into the forest, Mackenzie was left there, all by his lonesome. Solitude. Mackenzie would always sit by himself when the emotions came to him. He didn't know why, but when he had big or confusing feelings, he'd sit by himself, and that'd help him understand them, and the feelings he had were certainly big and confusing. He looked at his hands,  trying to understand what it was that he was feeling. He felt almost floaty, his a bit chest tight and his heart racing a little. It felt, nice, but it also felt strange, so strange. Bluey. Anytime he thought of the blue heeler, he'd get this feeling in his chest, almost like butterflies were within him. Everything from her voice, to her fur, she was quite a beautiful dog to him. But why did this make him feel this strange feeling? What exactly WAS he feeling? He kept trying to understand it, but the more he thought about it, the more overwhelming it all felt. It was like his mind was running in circles, and like he was trying to solve the puzzle that was his feelings. He thought about all the times him and Bluey had together. From playing at her house, to celebrating birthdays with her and her friends, to just running around together at the glasshouse. Each memory only made his tail flutter more and more, and gave him a smile as he looked out the window, the feeling of the outdoor air only making him more lost in his little Heeler induced trance, one which would be broken by the soft call of his name.

"You doing alright up there Mackenzie?" Calypso, his teacher and guide called out from below. "My my! Someone's happy about something!" she said, a soft chuckle in her voice. Mackenzie tilted his head, before noticing his fluttering tail, making him back up away from the window from the embarrassment. "Oh! Heheh, I'm sorry Mackenzie, I didn't mean to tease! I just noticed your tail was wagging so quickly behind you, did something good happen?" she asked, making Mackenzie peek out. "Um, well, I dunno..." he said, uncertainty in her voice? "Here, how about you come down here with me, lets just sit and relax together for a short bit." Mackenzie looked down at his hands for a bit, before nodding. "Yes Ms Calypso." Mackenzie quickly made his way down the ladder, before walking up to and sitting next to Calypso, who had already sat at the edge of the hill. The wind picked up a bit, a few blade of grass blowing past them. "My my, its quite a windy day today, wouldn't you say Mackenzie?" Mackenzie didn't respond, instead, he was looking down at the ground. "Mackenzie?" "Oh huh?" Mackenzie looked around before looking back at Calypso. "Is something up sweetheart?" she asked, moving a bit closer with a soft, reassuring smile on her face. "Oh its just, um, thinking about stuff. Sorry Ms Calypso..." She chuckled a little bit. "Oh no its okay Mackenzie, don't worry. Mind if I can ask what it is your thinking about?" Mackenzie froze nervously, looking away again. "Mackenzie?" She looked over at him, a slightly worried expression on her face. "I um, its hard to explain, I just... I feel weird..." Calypso placed a hand on his shoulder. "Are you feeling sick?" she asked, concern leaking through into her voice. "N-No. Its just... I don't know how to explain it... I just feel weird and I don't know why."

Calypso tilted her head. "Ooooh, I see. It can be tough at times to deal with feelings you don't understand..." she said, Mackenzie nodding in reply. "Could you maybe describe what your feeling to me? I did see your tail wagging up there, was it maybe a good feeling?" she asked quizatively. "Um, I think so... It felt nice... but it also felt very strange. I felt almost... sort of dizzy... it felt very strong..." Mackenzie trailed off, having a hard time to describe whatever it was that was going on in his mind, like he was describing the indescribable. "Ahhh, I see, you were having some big feelings... hmm... could I ask what caused this? Do you know?" she asked. "Um..." Mackenzie grew a bit nervous, before he softly muttered out his answer. "B-B-.... Bluey?" "Bluey?" Calypso asked, Mackenzie giving a nod of confirmation. "Did Bluey do something to make you feel this way?" she asked. "Um, she... she gave me a nickname... She, um, called me... B-Border Boy..." Calypso began to smile once again, as she started to get an idea on what was going on. "Ooooh, I see. Did you like it when she called you that?" Mackenzie's mouth opened to speak, but nothing came out. A blush began to form on his face as he simply resolved to nodding as his response. "Heheh, awww... Mackenzie..." Calypso's reaction only made Mackenzie blush more as he began to cover his face. He didn't even understand why he felt so emberessed, he just did, but a question quickly tore Mackenzie out of his state of emberessment. "Do you feel this way whenever you think of Bluey?" Calypso's statement caught him off guard, she hit the nail right on the head. He didn't even need to answer, as his face grew even more red and he hid his face behind his hat. "Oh Mackenzie, there's no need to hide! Its okay to feel what you feel, I am not going to judge you for that." she said, slowly pulling the hat away from this face. "I just- just- I just really like thinking about her..." Calypso's smile grew as she sat back a bit.

"Does somebody have a little crush on their mate?" The question pierced through Mackenzie even more then every other question Calypso had asked. His heart began to race as he was left speechless, but while his heart was already a bundle of chaos, his mind was in an even more chaotic state of both embarrassment, but also recognition for what it was he was feeling. Like puzzle pieces falling into place, things somewhat started to make sense in his head. It was like this blue heeler was dancing around this poor boy's mind. "You really must like Bluey a lot, huh." Calypso asked, Mackenzie letting out a nervous "yeah" in reply. Calypso knelt down in front of Mackenzie, grabbing his paw and bringing his attention back onto her. "Hey, I understand how it feels to be dealing with such big emotions like this. Yknow, when I was a girl, I had my own share of crushes... I know it can be a bit overwhelming, but just let it flow. Let those feelings flow through your body." Mackenzie continued to process his emotions as she requested, all the while she stayed there, continuing to help Mackenzie understand his emotions as she listened to him. "Ms Calypso?" Mackenzie asked, looking up at her. "Yes dear?" she asked, giving a patient smile. "Do you... think she likes me like in the way I like her?" Calypso thought for a second about Mackenzie's question, pondering what to say before finally coming to an answer. "Well, I do think she certainly likes you a lot." Mackenzie's tail began to flutter a bit. "But I think thats something you should try and ask her yourself." Mackenzie's tail slowed back down, and drooped a little. "Well, I just... I'm worried I'll make her think I'm weird, or she'll get mad, or she'll- she'll-" Mackenzie's voice started to crack a little as he started to become overwhelmed, the feeling of Calypso's hand grabbing his grounding him back down. "Hey now, hey... it's okay... She's your friend, she likes you a lot. I don't think she's the kind of girl to take something like that poorly Mackenzie..." Mackenzie didn't say anything, just continued to listen quietly. "You don't have to ask her now, only when your ready, but I'll say this, Bluey would never treat you like that, she likes you too much for something like that." Mackenzie thought in silence for a bit, before a distant voice came from the bamboo forest.

"Mackenzieeeee!" Bluey's voice rang out, making Mackenzie's tail immediately start to sway. Calypso giggled a bit and rubbed Mackenzie's ear. "Well, you shouldn't keep your friend waiting! Go on, go and catch up with her, and hey, remember." Mackenzie looked over at Calypso as she stood up. "Take it at whatever pace you need to, there's no need to rush." She booped Mackenzie's nose, making him giggle as she walked off, before Bluey peeked out of the Bamboo. "Mackenzie!" she called out to him. "Coming!" Mackenzie exclaimed, quickly dashing on over to catch up with his friend. Mackenzie and Bluey moved quietly through the bushes, creeping around the bamboo while on the lookout for anything unusual. "What's going on?" Mackenzie whispered to the sneaky blue ball of fluff that was next to him. "Rusty said he thought he saw something nearby, something unusual... it might be an enemy soldier, we need to be on our guard!" "A-Alright" Mackenzie looked around, but saw nothing unusual. "We're clear." The two continued forward, ever cautious as they went through the treacherous forest. They stayed close to one another, until they were brushed up right against one another. Mackenzie's heart fluttered a bit, as did Bluey's, but their little moment of closeness would be interrupted as the sound of a bush rustling could be heard behind them. Mackenzie signed down and they backed up from the bush. The tension only grew as the bush continued to rustle, the two continuing to back up until they backed into one of the bamboo, until... a certain hat poked out of the bush. "J-Jack!?" Bluey asked quietly, before Jack had peeked his head out. "Hurry, through here! We have intel!" Mackenzie and Bluey looked at each other before quickly diving through the bush with Jack, following him to a cliffside where Rusty was looking through his backpack. "Alright Sargent, whats the situation?" Mackenzie asked. "Alright Private Bluey and Private Mackenzie! I have been awarded intel by Jack that there has been a sighting of enemy soldiers going through this forest! We must be on high alert, they can be anywhere! They could be in the bushes, they could be hiding behind the bamboo, they cou-" "SHUSH!", Bluey covered, Rusty's mouth, and as he was about to speak, he heard it too. Bushes rustling, right above the cliff they were hiding in!

"Enemy soldiers! We gotta get out of here! Quickly! Run!" Rusty said, quickly grabbing his backpack and dashing off while putting it back on "W-Wait, Rusty-" "They're getting closer! Run!" Jack yelled, quickly running off like the wind in the opposite direction. "W-Wait, Ja-" "Don't just stand there Mackenzie, we gotta run!" Bluey grabbed Mackenzie's hand and pulled him along, him quickly running along with her. Out from the bushes, Coco and Indy looked around. "I coulda swore I heard someone over here..." Coco muttered, looking around. "You probably were just hearing things, there's nobody here!" Indy retorted, until Coco rubbed her shoulder against Indy's, pointing towards Bluey and Mackenzie running away. The two girls looked at each other, back towards the fleeing couple, then back towards each other, before both shrugging in sync and continuing on their way.

"Shoot! this way!" Bluey yelled out, going deeper into the bamboo forest. "But what about Jack and Rusty? Where did they run off to?" "Shoot, I dunno! Get down and take cover!" Bluey yelled out as she got onto the ground. "Huh-" Mackenzie wasn't even given a moment to react before he was pulled down into a bushy area with Bluey. "Ah! W-What do we do?" Mackenzie asked, peeking out from the bushes to see if anything was out there. "I-I dunno, l-l-lets just stay put for now!" "A-Alright..." Mackenzie sits down next to Bluey, but very quickly as things calm down, the awkwardness from earlier continues to set in, looming over them like clouds blocking a clear sky. "S-So- um-" "Hey uh-" the both of them tried to speak, but no words could come out. What could they say? Neither of them knew really. They sat there, unsure on really what to do, what to say, or how to really feel. "This... feels...nice." Mackenzie softly muttered. "It... it does, doesn't it?" Bluey chuckled. "I don't even know why, but sitting in this bush feels... nice..." Mackenzie chuckled. "Never thought I'd hear that coming from someone." "Hey, your the one in the bush with me! Your just as weird in this situation!" Bluey retorted, the two beginning to laugh. "Well hey, your the one who makes it so enjoyable!" Bluey suddenly stopped, making Mackenzie stop shortly after, her face red. "O-oh! I-I um- I-I'm sorry that- that probably sounded weird- I- I I'm sorry- I-" Bluey interjects quickly to reassure Mackenzie "No! No Mackenzie your fine, I-I just, I..." Bluey looks away, before looking back to Mackenzie, a tomato red face hidden behind her hands "T-Thats just... really really sweet... T-Thank you... B-Border Boy..." Mackenzie smiles, and his tail wags behind him, but then, an idea pops into his mind, and quickly, he grabs her hand.

"Your welcome, Bluebell."

Bluey immediately begins to squeam happily as he tail begins flapping around like crazy, Mackenzie chuckling "Hahaha, Wow, did you really like the name that much, Blueeebelllll?" he says teasingly. "Hey that isn't fair! You can't use that against me!" Bluey says, barely able to contain herself at this point. "I didn't think a little nickname would get you tha- W-Woah! Hey! Hahaha!" Bluey tackles Mackenzie playfully, the two giggling like crazy and having fun, without a care in the world...

... but then...

CRACK.

The two immediately jolt up. They look around, not knowing where the sound came from. In the distance though, they see something, a figure going behind a tree. The two look at each other, and both speak at the same time.

"Enemy soldier."

Mackenzie stands up, slowly peeking out of the bush, before signalling Bluey to move with him. The two move together, sneaking from bush to bush, but lose track of where the figure may had went off to. "Dang it, do you know where they might have went?" Bluey asks, looking around. "I dunno... they kinda just disappeared..." They continued to look around, confused, until... "RAAAAAHHHH!" A dangerous Snickers suddenly lunges out of the bush behind them! "Look out!" Bluey pulls Mackenzie out of harms way. "ENEMY SOLDIERS! RETREAT, RETREAT!" Mackenzie yells, the two quickly running through the forest together to evade the newly veiled threat. "Quick, this way!" Bluey pulls Mackenzie another direction, where Jack was on lookout. "JACK! WE HAVE ENEMIES!" Jack's eyes widened as he went back, jumping down the small cliff. "Rusty! Rusty wake up! Bluey and Mackenzie are reporting enemies incoming! We have to move!" "Oh shoot! On it! Cmon Private, lets move!" Rusty quickly got up. and signaled for Bluey and Mackenzie. "Get out of line of fire! He's right behind you!" Bluey and Mackenzie quickly dashed off to the side, before hiding within a bush, the two looking at each other and shushing one another. Snicked loomed over, dangerous and tall as ever. "Cmon out! Surrender now, and you wont be thrown into the sarcophagus!" The two hidden pups looked at one another, both equally as confused. "What on earth is he talking about? What army has a sarcophagus?" Bluey asked, Mackenzie shrugging in return. Snickers grew closer... and closer... and closer... but slowly, he moved past the bush... they went unnoticed... but he was moving in the direction of where Rusty and Jack were hiding. "Shoot! Mackenzie, we have to help them, or else they're doomed! What do we do?" Mackenzie looked around, thinking, before noticing another wide pack of bamboo, one wide and dense enough to hide a certain blue heeler... "I got a plan, sneak behind him across towards that bamboo and hide there. I'll distract him, and you'll sneak up behind him and catch him! We can then gang up on him!" Bluey listened intently, before nodding. "On it Border Boy." Mackenzie smiled, before saluting. "Good luck out there, Bluebell."

Bluey snuck around towards the side of the clearing, before quickly dashing to the other side. Snickers turned around, looking around, but soon turning back. Bluey continued to sneak through the bushes, trying her best to remain as quiet as possible... but then... he turned. Snickers looked over in the direction of the bamboo Bluey was hiding behind, and started to approach, getting closer... and closer, Bluey's heavy breathing getting stifled by her hand as she tried to keep quiet. "Now... I wonder what is... over..." "BLUEBELL! ENGAGE!" Snickers turned around quickly, and saw Mackenzie. "Stop right there!" Suddenly, before Snickers could do anything, Bluey leapt out from her hiding place, like a tiger lunging at prey. "For Australiaaaaaaaaaaa!" she cried out as he pounced Snickers onto the soft grass. "Border Boy! Assist!" Mackenzie quickly ran on over and helped contain and capture the Snickers. "Private Jack and Sargent Rusty! The enemy has been captured!" Jack and Rusty both got out of their hiding place and cheered. "Hooray!", before Snickers joined in with a "Hooray! Or, no, wait, I'm the enemy! Not Hooray! Not Hooray!" The five of them all laughed together. "Hahahaha, okay can you both get off now, that hurts, haha."

And it was not long after, that the schoolday had finally come to an end. Both of their dads had come on by to pick up Bluey and Mackenzie. Bluey was just about to get into her car, before... "Hey." Bluey turned back to look at Mackenzie, nervously holding his arm. "Hey." she responded, the two nervously approaching one another. "I- um, just wanted to say, today was a fun day and um, I... I..." Suddenly, Mackenzie feels the blue heeler against him, hugging him in a warm embrace, and he cant help but hug him in return. "Thank you border boy." Mackenzie smiles and the two break the hug. "Thank you too, Bluebell." The two part, heading towards their cars and getting in. "Afternoon mate! Had a great day at school today?" Bandit asked, looking back in the rear view window. "Yeah! Today was so fun! I got to play army with Mackenzie and Rusty and Jack, and we had sooooooo much fun!" Bluey excitedly exclaimed. "That sounds fun kiddo... say... you mind if I ask you a question?" "Huh? What is it dad?" Bandit thought for a second, before looking back and asking. "What was that with you and Mackenzie?" Bluey looked out the window and thought to herself. "Oh um, we just wanted to hug before we left. That was all." "Hmmm, right... and is that why you called him Border Boy?" He quipped. "Huh? What does that mean?" She asked. "Oh nothing nothing, just, I'm glad you two get along so well... hmm... say Bluey?" "Y-Yes dad?" Bluey asked nervously, dreading whatever question might be coming next. "How aboooout... we invite Mackenzie over tonight? Would you like that?"

"We are NOT dating dad! She's just my friend!" Mackenzie exclaimed, his dad chuckling playfully. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, but cmon son, your giving her nicknames!" Mackenzie crossed his arms, turning away. "It was just her codename in Army..." "Oooh, you were all playing Army huh? I know Rusty loves to play that." Mackenzie's dad asked curiously. "Yeah! We got to do a surprise attack and capture on Snickers! Bluey was super sneaky, and I distracted him so she could take him down, and then BOOM we both captured him together!" "Heheh, well ain't that something. Ykno-" Mackenzie's dad was suddenly interrupted by the sound of his phone ringing. "O-Oh, hold on kiddo, need to take this... Hey Bandit! Whats up!.... uhuh.... mhm... oooh, alright... yeah I'll let you know... alright, I'll ask him... Aight, mk, bye bye." Mackenzie leaned in curiously after the name Bandit was mentioned. "Was that Bluey's dad?" "Why yes it was! And speaking of which, he wanted me to ask..." Mackenzie's tail began to slowly sway as the question he was hoping for came to him. "Would you like to go spend the night at Bluey's?"

Both of the two excitedly exclaimed the exact same answer.

"YES!"

Notes:

Woo-ho! You made it to the end! Thanks for reading!

In around 3-4 hours, I managed to get around 6k words. I'm not sure if I'd be doing that many words for every chapter, but we'll see. Depends on how things flow. I don't have a beta reader or anything like that, so there might be some issues here and there, feel free to point them out in the comments, I can try and fix it whenever I can. (Just a fair warning, it might take a bit due to me doing several other things) Hopefully though it isn't anything too bad, and that it doesn't prevent you from enjoying the story!

I have a few ideas on what I might end up doing from here. It could be possible I could just leave this off here and move onto something new, or if people have interest in whats been written so far, I could try and do something more with what is written so far and expand upon it. I've put seedlings of a few ideas on stuff that could happen, such as a Jack X Honey plotline, or a Jack X Rusty plotline (or perhaps a messy love triangle scenario of some kind if we wanna lean more heavily into drama?). There's also some tidbits of Bluey not understanding gay relationships, so there's something that could be played with there. Course the whole relationship between Bluey and Mackenzie has a lot of potential, and could end up having a lot happen within it. Lots of potential for more story, characters, plot, sideplot, and incredible Bluey x Mackenzie moments for you to enjoy!

Alternatively, we could also instead just create single chapters which each focus on a different relationship and small moments between them in some form? Or maybe that could instead be a spinoff story involving a different couple or something. Could also try those instead if those sound more interesting.

Hope you all have a lovely night!

EDIT: Fixed the HUGE problem with the formatting, unfortunately some stuff got messed up and lost in the midst of cleaning it up and getting it readable again, but I don't wanna try and fix it, rather not risk breaking stuff again. I'll try and properly incorporate it next time! Promise!
