Chapter 1: Hecate
It was the evening, and Dee and Lif just came back from school. Went straight to Lif’s house to do the project. So now here they lay; debating the muse for the project.
“Dee! Which one should we do? We have Aphrodite, Zeus, Hera, Athena—“ Dee listens as Lif rats off of the names of the Greek deities. Dee didn’t seem interested in them. This resulted in Lif groaning in frustration. He lets out a quiet hum before his blue orbs stare into her red ones.
“Hecate.” Thats all he said. Shrugging and laying down. He was so… eh today it was agitating. Lif sighs and her red pupils look into Dee’s blue ones.
“Hecate? Who the hell is Hecate?” Her eyebrows furrow. More so trying to think where she possibly could’ve heard that name from. Furthermore, what their purpose was.
Dee just chuckles and shakes his head. “Hecate. She is a Greek goddess, often associated with witchcraft, magic, moon, night, and ghost. So much more though. Perhaps you’d be interested in her?” For once he said a clear sentence. Was Dee’s true interest at heart Greek mythology?
Lif settles a bit closer. Going on her laptop, she begins researching this Greek Goddess. After reading a few articles Lif gave Dee the biggest grin ever. Dee face flushed. Seeing Lif happy really did do something to his heart. “Dee you stupid genius!” She tackles him nearly in a hug. They were already on the ground, but now Dee’s back pressed against her cold, dark maple, hardwood floors. Soon she kisses his cheek and lays her head against his chest.
Dee blushed more and more… he was so flustered that a piece of his hair stuck out suddenly in the front.
“U..uh…y..your welcome..?” Dee’s hands grew clammy. Most importantly, awkward. Hesitantly, his hands reached up to Lif’s waist. Lif stayed propped against him comfortably.
“Tell me more about Hecate.” She closes her eyes and listens to Dee. “Hecate… she has many symbols. Like snakes, swords, pomegranates, polecats… mullets even. She watches over travelers and the spirit world. While there isn’t tons of information about her, we can still use her for our project. Does that sound okay?” He says quietly. His free hand now strumming through her black locks of hair.
“Mhm…” Lif was drifting off into a nap against her partner. Her frustration gone. She felt very relaxed against Dee.
“Dee, which Greek deity would I be?”
“Which Greek deity would you be…?” For a moment Dee is silent. Contemplating. She’d be Hecate. At heart she is. But she’s so much more than that too. She’s smart like Athena, beautiful like Aphrodite, fierce like Hades.
Then the perfect answer came to him.
“You’d be my Greek goddess. Goddess Lif. Your symbolic items are tarantulas, the moon, spikes, and webs…” As he spoke, he soon heard snoring. Lif fell asleep! He just chuckled, and kisses her head.
