The smell was abhorrent. The feelings it gave him were not.
Kid, in his usual style, made a show of giving him a red rose, making Shinichi's betraying heart flutter. When did he come to love this ritual of theirs?
A rose and a compliment. Was there anything behind those words and gestures? Shinichi did not know. He didn't want to assume. He'd be devastated if he were wrong.
He was already reading too much into it. He would be a fool if he fell in love with the gentlemanly persona of a thief he was chasing, but he was exactly that. A fool who fell in love with a criminal he didn't even know.
Kid was gone, once again made an escape, and how easy was it for him to make a mistake, when Shinichi did not attempt to catch him.
A detective caught by the thief. Ridiculous.
How did Shinichi fall in love? Even the horrid smell of roses did nothing to stop him from looking at the single rose he gave him with a smile on his face.
Why did that single rose make him so happy?
A fool in love...nothing worse than a fool in love.
