Chapter Text

Melatonin cookie. Dark enchantresses one and only sleep deprived, loner of an archivist. The one who holds all the information on both her and her enemies, her allies and any event that has ever happened in the entire history of earthbread. It sounds like an insane task, practically impossible. The archives are massive, hundreds of documents being reorganized and added every hour of every day. Yet they somehow manage.

And they would have managed with this as well if they hadn't been dozing off, they thought to themself as they sat in a prison cell, having been kidnapped by a rebel group against a Dark enchantress due to their importance and knowledge of all her plans. They could have easily broken out if they tried, they definitely weren't weak when it came to sorcery, but they were still disoriented on top of their usual exhaustion. And so they sat, resting their head against the cold stone wall behind them, unable to even push their glasses up because their hands are chained behind their back.

They don't even open their eyes as they hear the doors to the dungeon open and footsteps coming down the stairs. Probably just Raisin cookie trying to interrogate them for even a crumb of information about Dark enchantresses plans. But they'll keep quiet or pretend to be asleep, though this might actually be a good time to actually sleep instead of worrying about work. Better than some "kid" trying to threaten them again. They don't even bother answering when raisin stops in front of their cell and asks the same thing as an hour ago –

"Are you ready to tell us now?" Again, no answer. Raisin sighs, not wanting to admit defeat but this was proving more difficult than she thought. This archivist, who was supposed to be much easier to work with, looking at how easy they were to be captured, but no. Seems Dark enchantress knew what she was doing entrusting her most valuable information with someone who can barely stay awake half the time.

"So…" Melatonin finally mutters. "Why does someone like you think I'd even consider sharing information?" They finally look up, deep violet eyes staring from behind the bars at raisin, tilting their head ever so slightly. "Especially ones who kidnapped me in such an unkempt fashion." They huff in displeasure as they look around at the cell they're in, some stone bricks growing moss in the cracks. "You managed to break into the archive yet you didn't take advantage of the fact all the information you were looking for was right there?"

"That doesn't solve anything," Raisin scowls as she looks at the archivist. "all that information is stacked amongst information we do not need. Looking through all that would take months, and we don't have that kind of time." She leans in, closer to the bars now, scowling as melatonin remains unfazed. "But you… you know every document stored in that place, its location, when it was written. You could just tell us and maybe we'll consider letting you go."

Melatonin stays quiet, expression still tired, just like when they were first being interrogated. They couldn't care less what the rebellion wanted, it was just more noise to their ears. They already knew Dark enchantress would send out for their retrieval the second she notices they're gone, they never leave the archives and are almost always at their desk, letting their magic send the documents up to the higher shelves deeper in the archive.

They lean back against the stone wall again, the chains around their wrists becoming somewhat more unbearable now that their arms were getting tired from being restricted behind their back.

Raisin realises that it's pointless to try and reason with them anymore, but defeat wasn't an option for her, the resistance's secret weapon was right there, they could use them to learn all the plans, she just needed to find a different approach.

"Listen, old man. If you don't give us this information, people. Will. Die." She grips the cell bars firmly, clearly trying to intimidate them even more. Melatonin doesn't even flinch at the threat. "And they won't if I will?" Their tone is sarcastic, not taking her words seriously one bit.

Before raisin could respond, muffled sounds of conflict ensue outside. Melatonin just leans back, knowing that the cookies of darkness had finally come to pick them up, and raisin runs out to see the chaos.
