“Alright, everyone make sure you’re well rested for our practice match against Seijoh this weekend. We’ll have one more practice at our usual time tomorrow morning but then it’ll be game time, so make sure you have everything you need prepared.” Ennoshita, Karasunos captain announced to the group, making eye contact with a certain short, orange haired boy who was sitting on the side of the room as he added “we have to make sure we don’t forget anything this time.”

Hinata Shoyo, a second year at Karasuno high, blinked away quickly, breaking eye contact with the captain and suddenly becoming very interested in the wall. Last time just minutes before they headed off to their match, Hinata was reminded about his overdue English homework, which almost caused him to miss the match. Luckily, he was all caught up and ready to go this time.

Most of the team began packing up and getting ready to head out, a few players still hanging around afterwards to talk and hang out with each other.

“Hey, Hinata. Do you mind taking care of the keys to the gym tonight? I’m gonna be a little late tomorrow morning, and I know sometimes you like to stay at the gym late so I figured you’d be okay with locking up.” Ennoshita explained, walking over and handing the keys to Hinata.

“REALLY?” Hinata exclaimed excitedly, immediately grabbing the keys and thanking the captain before rushing over to his close friend, and Karasunos star setter, Kageyama Tobio.

Kageyama and Hinata had been close since their first year at Karasuno, but recently they somehow seemed to be even more attached to each other, always finding any excuse to be right beside each other.

“KAGEYAMA GUESS WHAT! I HAVE THE KEYS TO THE GYM! NOW YOU HAVE TO STAY AND PRACTICE SOME MORE QUICKS WITH ME!” Hinata pointed at his setter, who had just sat down to take a drink of water.

“Fine, but quiet down you idiot. It’s late, no one wants to hear your screaming.” Kageyama replied, shooting the shorter boy a dirty glare even though he immediately stood up and began walking back towards the net.

Hinata was ecstatic Kageyama had agreed so quickly, especially since it gave him a chance to spend even just a little bit more time with the dark haired boy.

Hinata had always thought Kageyama was amazing, and even though that admiration had originally been rooted in rivalry and determination to surpass him, something about it seemed a bit different lately, which he had recently come to realize was his feelings towards the boy in general. Hinata had fallen for Kageyama.

Although Hinata had no hopes that Kageyama would return his feelings, he still found every excuse to be around him whenever possible, staying late after practice or even just making a little extra effort towards conversation in the locker rooms or on the walk home.

Hinata hurriedly jogged behind the taller boy, beaming from ear to ear with excitement at the thought of getting to play more volleyball with the boy he thought so fondly of.

At first, Nishinoya and Tanaka, two of the third years at Karasuno, stayed behind with them, Tanaka hitting aswell and Nishinoya working on receives on the other side of the net. But, eventually the pair of them left as well, leaving just Hinata and Kageyama to practice on their own for a little longer.

They were running their freak-quick like usual, Hinata testing how fast he could get to his highest point to hit and Kageyama setting for him like usual, while watching him get excited after every hit.

Kageyama loved watching Hinata jump, because whenever he did it was almost as though he was flying, soaring higher and higher every time.

Kageyama knew he loved Hinata-he had known for quite a while now. He knew there was something different about him since the first time he ever saw him jump, and over time his feelings just grew stronger and stronger.

He watched Hinata intently, watching the way his arms pulled back for momentum before his jump, and how his eyes gleamed with unrivalled intensity before he took off.

Hinata landed his last jump, before immediately flopping down onto the floor in exhaustion.

“Oi, Hinata, it’s getting kinda late, don’t you think? We still have to clean up, and stop and get some food on the way home.” Kageyama reminded the smaller boy, who turned to look over at him at the sound of his voice.

“I guess you’re right.” Hinata groaned, standing up and walking over to grab the ball cart and beginning to wheel it into the equipment room.

All of a sudden, Kageyama rushed past him racing toward the equipment room which had been left propped open with a small door stopper.

“Last one to the equipment room has to buy the meat buns!” He shouted back at Hinata, who immediately began chasing after him.

“No fair! You had a head start and I have to roll this with me!” Hinata yelled back, even as he was slowly closing the distance between him and his friend.

“Sounds like you’re just gonna be a sore loser.” Kageyama shouted back, pushing the door to the equipment room wide as he bursted inside, victorious. Hinata ran in only a second later, but out of no where the ball cart veered off to the side after bumping something, causing Hinata to go flying into the tall boy who had just stopped in front of him to catch his breath. They both fell to the floor, Hinata landing on top of Kageyama, laughing at the annoyed expression plastered on Kageyamas face at their current situation.

“You idiot, get off of me!” Kageyama shouted, shoving the laughing boy off to the side. His eyes slowly trailed back towards the door, which was now closed shut.

“Shit, Hinata where’d the door stopper go? It was supposed to keep this open.” Kageyama said, immediately standing up and walking towards the door. He pushed on it, but it was no use, the door could only be unlocked from the outside.

“I didn’t touch it! Shouldn’t it still be there?” He asked in response. He got up to look around aswell, and that was when he noticed the the small wooden doorstopper, flung off to the side next to the volleyball cart which lay toppled onto its side with volleyballs rolling out all over the place.

“Looks like one of the wheels on the cart must’ve hit it when I was running in.” Hinata mumbled, obviously embarrassed for making that kind of mistake. “Do you have your phone on you?” Hinata inquired hopefully, even though he already knew the answer.

“What do you think.” Kageyama glared at Hinata as response, slumping down against the door. “Guess that means we’re stuck in here.”

Hinata sighed, walking over and banging his head against the door. “Oh my god.” Hinata whispered, before sliding down to sit by the other boy.

“What” Kageyama replied, looking annoyed.

“I was so excited to stop and get some meat buns on the way home and now we can’t!” Hinata whined, slinging his arm across Kageyamas shoulders and flopping his head down dramatically.

“You idiot, we’re stuck in here and all you can think about is meat buns?” Kageyama glowered, though his cheeks had gained a rosy hue due to how Hinata was leaning on him. Hinata peeked up from where he had his head buried in Kageyamas shoulder just in time to see the slight smirk that had formed on the boys face along with the blush, before he quickly turned to look away from the orange haired boy who was still looking up at him in amusement.

“Well what else is there to think about? I’m so hungry!” Hinata groaned, turning his attention away from Kageyama as his stomach growled loudly almost as if to back up his statement.

“I don’t know, maybe how to get out of here? Who knows how long we’ll be stuck.” Kageyama said quietly.

Hinata thought for a moment before forming his reply, jumping up as he exclaimed “wait! We have practice tomorrow morning right? Someone will come get us when they come to get the ball cart from the equipment room!” Shoyo beamed at his realization, grinning down at Kageyama. “In the meantime, we might as well do something so we don’t bore to death” He said, going to pickup a volleyball that had rolled beside one of the large crash mats that lay on the floor.

He tossed the ball at Kageyama, who caught it with ease as he too rose off the floor. They began peppering, though it wasn’t easy in the limited space given to them in the room they were trapped in. As the time passed, they began to get a bit more tired, and their passes were slowly getting less accurate. Then all of a sudden BAM. Hinata hit Kageyama directly in the face with one of his down balls.

Kageyamas face flushed red in annoyance, yelling “Hinata you idiot!” As Hinata fought to contain his laughter. Looking up at Kageyamas bright red face, now glaring down at him with a small red spot right on his forehead from where the ball had hit, Hinata lost it. He started laughing so hard he almost doubled over, causing Kageyama to run forwards and tackle him down onto the crash mat as revenge.

The two boys hit the mat with a thud, Hinata trying to push Kageyama off of him while still laughing his heart out. They struggled against each other for a few minutes, pushing and rolling around the mat, until eventually Kageyama successfully grabbed both of Hinata arms and pinned them on either side of his head.

“I win.” He breathed out heavily, looking down at the boy below him who had turned red from laughter.

Being this close to Hinata wasn’t entirely foreign to Kageyama, the two boys often found themselves in situations much like this one, but something felt different this time. As he looked down at Shoyo, he just silently admired him for a moment, his smile, glowing as bright as the sun, his bright orange hair all ruffled from Kageyama messing with it while they were wrestling, his eyes, his skin, just everything about him.

Shoyo soon realized that the taller boy had stopped moving, causing him to pause his laughter and look back up at Kageyama. He noticed the boy looked a little off, almost as in he was in a trance just from staring at Hinatas face. “Kageyama? Is something wrong?” Shoyo asked, struggling a little against Kageyamas hold on his wrists. Kageyama, still lost in thought, didn’t say anything in reply, just continued to sit there keeping Shoyo trapped against the mat.

Hinata decided he might as well take advantage of the situation, using the opportunity to truly take in everything about the boy above him. As he gazed up at Kageyama, he looked at his black hair, sleek and perfect even after being shoved around the mat, and his dark blue eyes that reminded Hinata of the night sky, leading him to gaze into them for a few moments too long.

Kageyama took notice of this, but still felt no need to speak up. There was something deeper in the silence between them, something different than usual, the tension between the two of them almost palpable. The both of them were still breathing heavily, even though they had long since stopped moving.

“God, why does he always have to look so amazing? It annoys the shit out of me.” Kageyama thought, making eye contact with Hinata again, who seemed to be feeling somewhere between comfortable and confused as he stared back up at the boy on top of him. Before he even fully realized what he was doing, Kageyama began to lean down, moving his face even closer to Hinata’s than he already was.

“Kageyama?” Hinata asked as the boy on top of him leaned in until their faces were just inches apart. His heart was racing at a million miles a second, and all he could think about was wondering if this was finally it.

Before he could say anything else, Kageyama leaned the rest of the way down, closing what little distance had been left between them. The kiss was perfect, it was everything Hinata had imagined when he thought of kissing Kageyama. His lips were soft, and it seemed as though their faces fit together perfectly, almost as if they were made for each other. Hinata immediately kissed back, attempting to deepen the kiss before Kageyama suddenly pulled back, startled.

“S-sorry, I don’t know what came over me.” Kageyama stuttered a little, obviously very flustered as he quickly moved off of Hinata, standing up and walking over to the door. His face was a blushing mess, the worst Hinata had ever seen him get. He couldn’t help but laugh at how clueless the big, handsome, dork seemed to be, which caused Kageyama to jerk his head back to look at Hinata, still laying on the mat smiling and giggling.

“Again.” Hinata said, his tone almost demanding as he sat up, making direct eye contact with an extremely confused looking Kageyama. “One more time. Please…?” Hinata asked, now pushing himself up off the crash mat and walking towards Kageyama, who now had his back pressed against the door.

“Wait, so it was okay?” Kageyama asked, looking almost anxious to hear Hinatas reply.

“Obviously it was okay, I was kissing you back!” Hinata shouted, shoving at the black haired boy who was just standing there in confusion. “Now do it again please.” Hinata giggled, walking even closer to Kageyama.

This time when Kageyama didn’t reply it was Hinata who closed the distance, grabbing at his shirt to pull the taller boy down as their lips connected again. Kageyama heaved a small gasp of shock, but that shock quickly faded as he melted back into the kiss with Hinata.

His hand moved up into Hinatas hair, grabbing on and using the grip to tilt Hinatas head to the side so they could melt even closer together, and then moving his other hand onto Hinatas waist, pulling the smaller boy fully up against him.

Even though neither of the two had ever kissed anyone before, this just felt so simple-so natural. Hinata moved his hands up to Kageyamas face, placing his hands on his jaw and pulling him in as if he needed him even closer, even though there was no distance left between the pair already.

Kageyama used the hand on Hinatas waist to spin the two of them around so Hinata was pressed against the door now, sliding his other hand away from Hinatas hair all the way down to the smaller boys thigh, using the grip to lift him up as Hinata wrapped his legs around Kageyamas waist in response.

As the kiss went on, he made the choice to move back down to the crash mat, pulling Hinata away from the door as he stumbled backwards in what he hoped to be the right direction. When he kicked the mat behind him, Hinata suddenly unwrapped his legs from Kageyamas waist and pushed the both of them down, so that this time the smaller boy landed on top.

As his back hit the mat, he felt Hinata slide his hands away from his jaw, placing one on the back of his neck and the other sliding down onto his back just slightly under the neckline of his shirt before immediately pulling Kageyama back into another kiss, his fingers sliding up and down the skin right in between his shoulder blades.

After this, the kiss seemed to gain intensity in a way that almost seemed competitive.

Hinata latched onto Kageyamas bottom lip, nipping at it a little before sliding his tongue across his lip. He had no idea where all this confidence was coming from, but he was loving it.

The action sent a small shiver down Kageyamas spine, causing him to gasp and pull away for a second.

They were both breathing heavily now, but neither had intentions of stopping anytime soon. Kageyama used the hand on Hinatas waist to push the smaller boy off of him, rolling the both of them over in a way where he ended up hovering above Hinata, his other hand that had once again been tangled in Hinatas hair now pressed against the mat beside the smaller boys head, keeping him elevated.

Taking a small pause to catch their breath, Hinata looked up at the blushing mess above him that was Kageyama Tobio, and let out a small laugh.

Kageyama just stared down for a moment in confusion, trying to understand why Hinata would possibly be laughing right now.

“Did I do something wrong?” Kageyama asked once Hinatas laugh had faded out.

“Not at all.” Hinata smiled, once again wrapping his legs around Kageyamas waist and sliding both of his arms to rest on the back of Kageyamas neck.

“One more time?” Hinata asked innocently, looking up at the boy who was still above him.

Kageyama opened his mouth to answer, but there was no need. Hinata was already pulling him back down for another kiss, and Kageyama would have to be out of his mind not to comply.

This time the kiss was a bit more aggressive. The competitiveness from earlier was returning to the two, and it seemed like neither of them could get enough of the other.

Hinata moved one hand off of Kageyamas neck, sliding it down his arm, gently grabbing his bicep for a moment before moving his hand down along the side of his torso until he found the hem of his shirt and slowly slid his hand underneath, and onto Kageyamas bare back.

This earned him another small gasp from Kageyama, and Shoyo seized the opportunity to flip the two of the back around so he was now back on top and straddling Kageyama.

He immediately leaned down again, this time kissing along the taller boys jaw and onto his neck, sucking and biting a few certain spots that seemed to be extra sensitive, earning him a few small groans from Kageyama. He then slid the hand still on the back of Kageyamas neck up to his jaw and turning his head back to the front, reconnecting their lips and once again going straight to latch on to Kageyamas bottom lip, sucking and nipping at the others soft skin.

Even though the both of them were clumsy and inexperienced, the kiss was everything they had wanted.

By the time they parted, they were both panting heavily, lips swollen and pink.

Hinata quickly realized how little he had breathed through the whole thing, the lack of oxygen finally catching up to him as he began to feel a little lightheaded before flopping forwards right onto Kageyamas chest.

“I win” he panted, burying his face into the crook of Kageyamas neck.

Kageyama was still slightly shocked at all that just happened, but he still slid his hands onto Shoyos back, pulling him into an embrace as they lay together.

“I guess I can let you have this one.” Kageyama replied, a small smile finding its way to his mouth as he looked at the orange haired boy almost passed out on top of him.

“So wait, are we dating now?” Shoyo looked up at Kageyamas face for a moment as he asked his question.

“Now who’s the one asking obvious questions.” Kageyama teased. “Unless you don’t want to…” he asked wearily.

“I want to.” Shoyo replied, dropping his head back down against Kageyamas chest.

Kageyama placed a small kiss on Hinatas forehead as they slowly drifted off to sleep.

————————————

“OH MY GOD TANAKA GET OVER HERE!” Nishinoya yelled, pulling out his phone and snapping a photo of the duo who still lay asleep together on the mat.

“Oh they totally made out.” Tanaka stated, leaning in the doorway as he also began taking his phone out to snap pictures of the duo.

“Well it’s about time they got together, they’re so obviously in love. It’s been hurting me watching them hopelessly pine for one another” Noya sighed dramatically, before picking up a volleyball off the floor and throwing it at the pair.

“Wake up sleepyheads! It’s time for practice!” He yelled at the duo, who slowly stirred awake.

The moment Kageyama awoke enough to realize that both of the older boys could see Hinata still laying on top of him he turned bright red, turning away immediately before shoving Hinata off of him.

The shove quickly jostled Hinata awake, his eyes widening as he looked from the boys in the doorway back to Kageyama.

“Oh my god Is Ennoshita here too?! He’s gonna kill me i didn’t get to lock up because we got stuck in here and we didn’t take down the net like we were supposed to and he’s never going to trust me ever again!” Hinata rambled, quickly jumping to his feet and walking towards the two boys at the door.

“Relax, it’s only the two of us so far, and we won’t tell Ennoshita. We figured we’d show up early to help set up for practice and thank god we did, because I need to know what happened here.” Noya exclaimed looking back expectantly at Hinata, who simply turned bright read as he turned to look back at Kageyama.

“Nothing happened, we just accidentally kicked in the doorstopper and got locked in.” Hinata explained, hoping that the two third years would just take the bait and drop it.

“Liar.” Tanaka whispered menacingly, attempting his usual intimidation tactics to try and get Shoyo to spill.

Shoyo wasn’t sure how much he was allowed to say, but when he went to look back at Kageyama for reassurance he noticed he had already stood up and was now standing close behind him.

“We’re together now.” Kageyama explained, looking down at Shoyo with his usual expression as the other two audibly squealed in excitement.

“HAH Tsukki owes me 500 yen! He said it would take them till third year to get together!” Tanaka exclaimed, looking down at Noya with excitement.

“Lucky! I owe Daichi and Suga now because I said it wouldn’t happen until spring!” Noya whined in response, earning confused looks from the two boys who were still standing in the equipment room.

Hinata was the first to realize what they were talking about, and was immediately embarrassed upon the realization.

“OH MY GOD YOU GUYS WERE BETTING ON US?!?” He shouted, immediately launching himself at the two boys as they both took off running towards the court.

Kageyama stood in the doorway for a moment longer before following suit, pleased that a night that had seemingly started off bad ended up so perfectly.
