Chapter Text
CHAPTER ONE;
Have you ever wondered if there's more out there? Well me too, in a way. I wonder who my dad is and I wonder why my grandpa is so great with horses, and I also wonder why we both have dyslexia. Anyways I'm Pelagia Hart, currently ten years old and considered a "math prodigy" at my prep school by teachers and a loser by students. Currently I'm hiding in the bathroom to escape the stupid pep-rally, I mean sure I'm athletic but come on! I'll only get yelled at for not doing enough.
"Pelagia?" The supervisor called as she opened the door. What was she doing here? I really hoped my mom was picking me up like she said she would. Reluctantly I stood and pushed the stall open.
"Whats up?" I asked meekly.
"Your moms here to pick you up, she seemed pretty urgent too "You better hurry alright?" She explained and stepping to the side as I took some trembling steps toward the door.
Soon I found myself in the winding hallways, if only my uniform shoes didn't have a little heel, I would've been perfectly quiet. For some reason it felt I was leaving for a bit, like it was my time to go. Even if my language arts grades are pretty low, dyslexia isn't fun at all... And neither is liking Captain America in a school full of rich snobs(I would know I've had to hide my comics) they also poke fun because that's all I read, but it's literally the only thing I CAN enjoy reading.
When I arrived to the office my mom stood up and took my hand gently and guided me out despite looking so spooked.
"Where are we going mom?" I questioned
shakily
"It's a surprise sweatie," she murmured as she helped me in the car, her hands were shaking so badly as she finally got behind the wheel and hit the gas petal.
"Are you okay mom? You're shaking a lot..." I pointed out, wait did grandpa die...? My mother seeing the pale parlour of my face got a panicked look,
"No no Pelagia, you're grandpa didn't die. Just keep your eyes forward please," she pleaded... Like something was chasing us. But I eventually lulled off to sleep when we were an hour or two into the drive.
"Pelagia wake up!" My mom suddenly called out already ushering me up a hill with a tree.
"Mom?! What's going on?! Why are you holding a baseball bat!?" She didn't answer just practically grabbed me and bolted up the hill as a terrorizing growl was heard behind us. I lifted my head to look up the hill a pine tree- WHY WAS IT ALL GLOWING BLUE?!
"Mom?!-" I tried to ask but she interrupted
"Pelagia I love you more than you could ever know, be safe and have fun for me okay?" She gave me a kiss on the forhead before shoving me into that blue border thingy and turning around to do whatever to defend herself against what was chasing us. Unfortunately for me I kept stumbling and rolled down the hill very ungracefully.
"Woah! Easy there," a calming voice called out. I looked up still midly dazed from the tumble to see a very tall man? He had thinning brown hair and really intense looking eyes, everything seemed normal. Until I looked down to what I ran into my eyes widened.
"Wh-... What?" I stammered immediately darting to me feet and stumbling back, he had the body of a white stallion!
"Where am I?!" I exclaimed, my face heating up while some girl snickered at me.
"Apologies for not introducing myself, you took quite the tumble though. I'm Chiron, and you my friend are in camp half blood. A home for all demigods to live in protection," he motioned for me to walk with him.
"You are?" He asked.
"I'm Pelagia Hart," I responded, fidgeting with the curl end of my braid, as this Chiron guy gave me a curious look.
"It's a wonder how only now a monster was after you, and how you completely slipped from the radar. You're mother must be quite a clever mortal," he mused, I just nodded along as I was still pretty spooked by the day.
Eventually we reached a large cabin with a caduceus,
"This is where you'll be staying,"
"Hermes cabin? Does that mean my dads Hermes?" I questioned, my voice trembling big time.
"He might or he might not, Hermes is the God of all travelers. His cabin is home for his children and the unclaimed," he paused his explanation for a thoughtful look before continuing"get some rest tonight. Someone will show you around tomorrow,"
And he'd left me to go in by myself.
When I finally opened the door with a trembling hand, everyone paused. A boy probably a few years older than me with sandy blonde hair approached with a crooked grin,
"You must be the one who tumbled right into Chiron, I'm Luke Castellen... And you are?"
"Pelagia Hart," I reluctantly introduced, clutching my bag... He raised an eyebrow,
"I'm not going to steal your bag, how mean. Assuming the son of Hermes is a thief," he remarked in a pretend mournfulness.
"Wait no! I'm sorry I didn't mean like that!" I quickly stammered an apology.
"I'm just joking, but welcome to the Hermes cabin, I'll show you around tomorrow. Get some sleep though," he said while pointing to an empty sleeping bag. I just took my shoes off and slept in my uniform that night, dreaming about being Captain America.
