"I'm not wearing silver jewelry," Jem firmly repeated to Magnus again. Alec and Tessa had walked into the apartment to a firm disagreement between the two about the color of jewelry Jem should wear to the fancy restaurant they were going to tonight.
"I spent enough of my youth stuck with the color silver. I shall wear whatever I please," Jem continued in his firm tone and had not noticed Tessa and Alec's presence. Alec could tell that Magnus was about to say something unfortunate, and despite not really knowing what Jem meant, he jumped into the conversation anyway.
"We're wearing jewelry to the restaurant tonight? Is that a requirement?" His voice caught the attention of the other two, and Tessa smiled at him, knowing he'd asked purely as a distraction.
"No jewelry? Magnus, and you're worried about me?" Jem added, giving Alec a smile. The seriousness had vanished from his eyes and was replaced by amusement. Magnus had whirled around to face Alec, a clear mocking hurt on his face.
"What do you mean, Alexander? Of course, we are wearing jewelry to the restaurant!"
"Oh," Alec continued, watching Tessa and Jem start to mumble their own conversation. "I don't have any jewelry to wear."
"Lucky for you," Magnus lit up. "I have plenty of jewelry that you can borrow!"
Alec didn't generally wear jewelry, but he figured wearing some for one date wouldn't hurt him. Who knew? Maybe he'd end up liking it.
Magnus hauled multiple jewelry boxes out of the bedroom. And by haul, obviously, we mean conjured multiple jewelry boxes from the bedroom. He began taking our various rings, necklaces, and earrings- despite Alec not having pierced ears- and began holding things up to Alec in a frenzy.
Alec was beginning to slightly regret his choice when Magnus brought out a long trench coat. "And this would go perfectly with this necklace-"
"How about this one?" Tessa asked, holding up a silver-chained necklace with a sapphire blue stone at its center. "It would look good with your eyes."
This had Magnus and Alec both frozen to their spots. Alec, staring at the necklace, Magnus staring at Alec.
"I think that one is perfect," Magnus cleared his throat. Alec was still mesmerized by the necklace, so Magnus took the chance to take it from Tessa's hand.
"Allow me," Magnus said, and put the necklace over Alec's head and clasped it behind his neck.
"It's perfect," Alec blurted, and then, realizing Tessa and Jem were still in the room, quickly added, "Um, so, let's go before we are late to our reservations!"
Alec started gathering his coat while Magnus watched after him. Tessa rolled her eyes and lightly pushed his shoulder. "Earth to Magnus,"
"I'm going to marry him," Magnus said, still dazed and watching Alec, who was heading to the door, conversing with Jem.
"I hope you do," Tessa responded and gently pulled Magnus toward the door. "But Alec is right, we are going to be late."
This shook Magnus out of his trance and sent him flying for the door, nearly knocking Jem over in the process. From down the stairs, the others heard Magnus call, "Come on, I don't want to miss happy hour!"
"By the Angel..." Alec muttered and followed out after him, leaving Tessa and Jem stifling laughs behind them.
