Work Text:
It was a fairly bright place for a a nurses office, but yet so blinding.
Ryujin had gotten badly injured during a school fight. Although she won overall, the entire incident felt like two rabid dogs at war. Bruises all over her face like that one pou image, she needed to prepare herself for the scolding she's gonna get from her mom the moment she gets home considering the principal rings her home phone.
She looked around the office, it didn't seem like the nurse was in. So she just shut the door behind her, sat on closest bed she saw. One of the teachers who caught ryujin in her fight told her to go to the nurses office while they have a talk with the other students who were involved.
The bruised up girl just relaxed her body before dropping her head on the pillow, laying down against the mattress. She rested her eyes close and finding peace in the cold air. She wasn't even the one who started the fight in question— they just wouldn't leave her alone after she "stole" their smoke place in which she just stumbled across in break.
A scoff escaped her mouth when she thinks back to it again, rolling on her side as the wind had felt chilly. She'd get up to find a blanket to take a nap while she waited but it didn't matter that much to her.
As she drifted to slumber— atleast almost, a feeling crept up to her like someone was here. ‘Til she heard a voice from the other side of the bed that was facing her back, hearing the words “Are you alright?”
Ryujin wondered when they even got in. Assuming that it was the nurse, she just answered with a "hm.", in a way like she was being waken up by her mom for school when she was late.
She heard a sigh leave from the other person before they continued, “If you're one of those students who uses being hurt as an excuse to sleep here-” until ryujin weakly sat up from the bed to interrupt them,
“Jeez, I'm not. I was told to go here after I got into a fight. I was just waiting-” she paused her scentence when she met eyes with who she saw was actually with her, Sayeon lee.
Her crimson coloured framed glasses, wearing a white coat that fit her frame, notebook tucked in her armpit and her taken aback expression once she locked eyes with ryujin.
“What are you doing here?” Her tone had shifted into a more passive aggressive manner after registering it was sayeon she was speaking with, keeping her distance after breaking the question.
“I took over for the nurse because she had other things to attend to,” Sayeon responded, ”She had informed me that someone would be coming but I hadn't known it would've been you.” Finishing her scentence, returning the same delivery of her message to match with the others tone.
Ryujin started to get frustrated the more they spoke, that she could feel a vein in her forehead that would've been sticking out like a sore thumb if it weren't for her cap pushing down her bangs.
She wasn't about to sign herself up for some bickering with miss four eyes over here after her fight, so she shut her mouth to save the headache and letting sayeon have the final word for once. Except it wasn't really over.
Ryujin still felt sayeons eyes on her. Staring at her face in which she remembers it's full of nothing but bruises, then causing to turn away from her direction and let the awkward silence linger in-between the two, making them feel uncomfortable.
“...You said you got into a fight?” Sayeon made the first move to bring the conversation back up, inviting herself back in ryujins field of view in the corner of her eye with sitting by the bed.
She was hesitant to respond now, but she already started talking. Letting her head hang low, drooping down to her lap. “Yeah, They're the ones who provoked me too. Just started acting pissy over how I "took" their smoking spot, and when I was about to leave they wouldn't let it go. Like get off my back??”
Sayeon was just watching her make the most expressive faces and listening to her ranting on what had happened her side of the story, resting her hand on the matress and leaning towards. She'd almost broke out a snort when ryujin mocked what the kids had said.
Until- Kang hissed after her bruises stinged when just moving her jaw or raising her eyebrows. Before she could complain more— Sayeon reached for her face with her hands, brushing over her wounds without pressure.
“These doesn't look good,” Letting herself get worried, pulling ryujins face closer to hers while tilting her head at different angles to get more proper looks at them.
The girl was startled by the sudden contact of feeling the pads of ones surprisingly gentle fingers; with her thumb grazing atop of her cheekbones, the palm of her hand just resting on her chin. While on the other side she was using her index finger to push the hair strands a part of her bangs away and tipping the brim of the hat up to lightly trace the bruise by her temple that what had seemed like to be a cut. Somehow It didn't sting as much as it did anymore.
When ryujin had came back to her senses, she spoke up to clear the tension in the air, “W-What,?? are you just trying to be insulting now? The hell is up with you?” Fumbling over her words. Ryujin was trying to look somewhere, surely felt goosebumps while trying to search anywhere to land her eyes on but how close sayeons face was.
“Just find me some ointment cream already,” Swatting sayeons hands away and scooched back a millimetre without even looking at her anymore, she had wondered and atleast was hoping that the tint of her flushed rosy cheeks was somewhat blending in to be a part of her bruises.
After a pause— she heard her standing up to walking up to a desk, the sound of her opening the counter cabinets was audibly heard in the same room as them, rummaging around. As she grabbed something that had looked like what she had been searching for, she walked back over to ryujin and sat back down, closer than before.
Sayeon opened the container, before sayeon was about to dip her finger in it, Ryujin snatched it from her hands, “I can do it myself, thanks.” And the girl just nodded in response for a second. She couldn't help but notice for a second how disappointed she had seemed to be robbed of the little cup.
Kang took a single swipe at the dip of the ointment with her two fingers— the middle and index, and slowly rubbed against what felt like a bump. She wouldn't feel so tense if the girl on her right was just either watching her swatching the cream over her face.
She let out a sigh of relief, closing her eyes to block off the feeling of mint creeping up to burn her eyes, hitting her head against the pillow once again and slapping the container on sayeons hand.
“So, you gonna stay here or what, glasses?” Ryujin questioned as she turned to her. “You gotta keep putting up your smarty-pants shmits somehow.”
It went quiet for some reason, it was always unsettling how silent it usually got. But sayeon responded back, “I’ll stay.”
Ryujin opened her eyes upon hearing that, genuinely confused. “Until next period starts atleast. This is the second to last so I'm not gonna stay here with you when school ends or whatnot.” And ryujin still creased her eyebrows at her explaination, it was like listening to a kid making up an excuse. But she didn't push any further.
“Alrrright, I'll just be taking a nap then. Hope you have fun doing...whatever will keep you occupied here.” Ryujin did something like a hand wave gesture at sayeon, relaxing her eyes closed.
. . .
At least two minutes has passed. in the outside perspective, Sayeon stood up to grab something; finding a blanket, she covered it over ryujin and sat back down on a seperate chair to write in her notebook.
Ryujin had still been half awake, but still nevertheless, appreciated the gesture.
