Chapter Text

Neuvillette wasn't a social person.

He didn't like humans, he didn't like other dragons and he didn't like countless other beings either.

One of the creatures he do like were Melusines which he sees as his daughters.
He liked talking with them, hearing about their days, what they like, do they made new friends - even though he think they did not need friends. - So it wasn't all that shocking for him when they talk about about their trip to Fontaine.

He knew some things about Fontaine because of fishermen's drunk rumblings, like how it's ruled by a goddess and that goddess happens to have authority over water too, which made sense since the area was surrounded by water.
The thing he didn't know about Fontaine and learned from his daughters was that the goddess that ruled fontaine had two separate personalities or so this is what his daughters understood from how citizens talked about her.

Neuvillette would be lying if he said he wasn't curious about the said goddess, after all ,like him, goddess also authority over water and a person with two separate personalities was generally intriguing.

So he decided to pay a visit to meet that so called goddess and decide for himself if she had really two personalities or was it just a carefully planned act.

First time Neuvillette meet her she called herself Focalor she already knew who is was before he could even think about hiding his identity.

Focalor was an elegant, soft spoken woman with beautiful features that was expected from a heavenly being, yet Neuvillette was no fool and he wasn't someone that could get deceived easily.

He could see right through her kind words and understand that she was calculeting, trying to understand if he was a friend or an enemy.

All though he never really paid much attention to Fontaine or human affairs in general and didn't know what it takes to be a ruler, he knew this woman was a ruler trough and trough.
He didn't want to admit but the "tea party" Focalor invite him so they can be "friends" was more pleasant than he though it would be, even though he really didn't like anything that was served.

He tired the tea and various treats that brought to the table of course, he was -even though he didn't know much about human etiquette- a polite dragon after all, but he still preferred the fresh and gentle taste of the water to anything else.

What Focalor said to him next caught him off guard "Then next time i'll make sure to have varieties of water for you." And she said that with a smile that told him she already knew there would be a next time.

And Neuvillette didn't mind.

Second time he meet her, she called herself Furina.

She had the same looks, same grace and same beauty he remembered from their last meeting, but she was undeniably different at the same time.

İt wasn't different in a bad way, İt was just...unexpected to say the least. Maybe what his daughters said about her having two different personalities true after all.

"Furina" didn't carry the quiet grace and authority of a ruler "Focalor" had.

Her gestures were more dramatic, theatrical like and the way she talks and moves was more like a actress who is already used to be always center of attention.
Yet Neuvillette didn't find that unpleasant at all, if anything he was somewhat...amused?
He wasn't really sure.

İt was clear despite the opposite personalities of the goddess he encounter they were the same person since there was really waters from different places just like how "Focalor" promised and how "Furina" commented;

"I know l promised you about waters but don't they all taste the same? Do you really taste them different?"

Which basically confirmed "Furina" and "Focalor" were the same person since "Furina" said " l promised " for a promise "Focalor" made.

And no waters did NOT taste the same.

Although Neuvillette was sure the goddess is the same person the personalities she had were quite different, and so the comversation he had with this two personalities.

With "Focalor" he learned about Fontaine's formal affairs like how the court operate, what are the ranking system in Fontaine, how Fontaine's economy works and a lot more.

And whit "Furina" he learned about opera, dance, Fontaine's culture, human relationships and the thing he was most unfamiliar with.
Human emotions.

He was a really terrible student on "Furina's" part.

He didn't understand why people find it entertaining to watch other people yell at eachother melodically in a stage.

He didn't understand why would people want to engage in a physical contact with someone else for several minutes, do awkward moves and possibly engage in a awkward conversation either.

He did understand somethings about human relationships though.

After all he himself had daughters he cared deeply for...maybe in that way he was more similar to humans then he thought he is after all.

He knew what he feel for his daughters He knew what he feel for his daughters was parental love and he did know he sees the sea as his home as people would say.

But he didn't really knew anything else about emotions, sure he did know how does it feel to be loved thanks to his daughters and he knew the feeling of belonging.

But he never really had a reason to be sad, angry or anxious about something his life in the sea was peaceful he didn't really had any reason to feel those things.

Oh and the emotion he was most confussed about "love" not in a parental way but in a romantic way.

As a dragon he really didn't had a natural instinct to know it either since dragons didn't really do romantic feelings, or in that case they didn't do feelings at all, they did mate sure but it was simply for reproducing purposes not for desire to start a family or a love for a romantic partner.

So this emotion "Furina " teach him was forgein to him.

Well both him and goddess were immortal and they had a lomg life ahead of them so he had lot time to learn about it.
