The Best of Bugs

Summary:

"You know.."
Freppa started and then took a sip of his drink. You waited patiently, letting the mug warm your hands.
"Doesn't a pet name lose its purpose if it's longer than the actual name?"
He almost sounded scared, or at the very least hesitant to bring that up. As if he was expecting you to raise your voice and start yelling at him. That in itself was a really crazy thought because you had never done such a thing around him. You figured Freppa was just so used to Tommy being loud.

Notes:

Fluffuary 2026
Day 23: Pet Names

Happy Freppa Friday! This fic is short, but all the remaining ones I've written for Fluffuary are at least somewhat longer. Day 29's fic in particular.
Please enjoy!

Work Text:

You heard familiar, soft humming coming from your kitchen as you sat on your spacious couch, legs completely hidden under one of your favorite blankets. You felt nice and comfy, and would feel even more so in a little bit. This was because your boyfriend, Freppa, was making some tea for the two of you. And doing so with utmost love and care. That's what you were able to guess because of how long it was taking him. You smiled to yourself and breathed in calmly. You felt truly happy. You weren't quite sure if that was the happiest you'd ever been, but that was only because you'd had a lot of good, happy days lately. And it was mostly thanks to Freppa and his two, chaotic best friends. Mostly Freppa. He just made your life so much better with his quiet and calm but attentive presence. You listened to the homey sound of tea being stirred with a spoon to make sure that the added honey would dissolve properly. Freppa was always so thorough in everything he did, even the littlest of things. Unlike his friends who usually were more focused on the bigger picture instead of the small, quiet acts of love. Not to say that Tommy or Määnin didn't know love. You were certain they did. After all, you had seen how Tommy often looked at his bandmate. Their love language simply was a different kind, that's all.

The smile remained on your face when Freppa finally walked back into the living room, carrying two huge mugs filled nearly to the brim with steaming hot tea. Your favorite beverage during the winter months.
"Thank you, Freppachino,"
you said as he handed your mug to you. You wasted no time taking that first, careful sip. Immediately you could feel the pleasant warmth spread to your stomach. Your Finnish Spitz was asleep on the carpet, surrounded by her favorite green, squeaky crocodile plush and a rope toy. She was tired after playing and wrestling with Freppa earlier and wasn't even bothered when he walked past her and sat down on the couch next to you.
"You don't like Freppachino?"
you then asked as you pulled your feet up on the couch, close to your body. You were still smiling; Freppa and his quiet, at times even a little held-back gentleness always had that effect on you.
"Should I call you something else? Bug, maybe?"
you suggested and kept an eye on Freppa's face.
"Bug is cute,"
he admitted with a smile of his own.
"And it's not that I hate Freppachino, either. It's certainly unique."
"Bug it is, then,"
you decided softly and moved a little closer to Freppa.
"My bug."
