She was a skater girl, what more can I say

Summary:

Robin is a skater girl and ends up eating dirt while wanting to teach her gf's idiot brother a new trick

Notes:

I really like the idea of Robin skating as a hobby and this is my first little drabble. Will for sure be written out into a longer version in the following days

Work Text:

Robin was watching carefully as Mike Wheeler attempted his first try at a kickflip. The two of them had been doing this for a while now, Robin teaching the boy some stuff here and there. And ever since Robin and the oldest Wheeler had officially started dating, Robin and Mike’s bond had only grown closer.

It was March, the sun creeping out slowly, the warmth shining on Robin’s back through her two layers. The first layer consisted of a faded red shirt displaying a scene out of The Shining, and underneath it a simple black long sleeve clung to Robin’s body. To finish the outfit, Robin was sporting a pair of baggy cargos. Usual rings on her fingers.

A curse cut into the silence, making Robin look up at Mike. The teenager was staring at his skateboard as if it had personally insulted him — and maybe he really felt that way at the moment. Robin chuckled lowly; learning a new trick could be a bitch.

The girl popped some gum into her mouth, the strawberry flavour exploding on her taste buds. She walked over, her eyes scanning Mike.

“What got your panties all twisted, Wheeler junior?"

Mike rolled his eyes at the nickname but accepted the offered gum from Robin’s outstretched hand.

“I just can’t get this goddamn trick right, Robin. Like, how much longer is it gonna take?”

Robin had to smile just a bit at Mike’s obvious impatience, her own skateboard in her left hand. The deck was showing, glittered with different stickers. It was divided by a mix of blue and green, the two colours running into one another. There were movie stickers, a bad little drawing from Steve the dingus, and if you looked closely enough also an “I love you, idiot” with a heart from Nancy. Strewn across it you would find different lyrics from Robin’s favourite tracks. It bled Robin Buckley through and through.

“Let me show you again, Wheeler.”

Mike stepped aside, crossing his arms over his chest as he threw Robin a sharp gaze.

“Enlighten me, Buckley.”

Robin only smacked him upside the head as an answer before starting a slight run, simultaneously dropping her board onto the pavement. She easily got enough speed, Converse scratching on rough stone as she kicked back her foot.

Robin loved the feeling of the wind hitting her skin, breathing in the crisp air as everything else around her drowned out. In this moment, Robin didn’t have to pretend to be anything — she just was, and that was it.

What she hadn’t accounted for was a freaking pebble ruining her moment and sending her to the hard ground. The board slipped from her control, feet finding air, and in seconds Robin’s tall, lanky figure was kissing pavement that tasted like dirt and cigarettes.

Mike came running quickly, calling out to her. The boy knelt beside her, and even if he was acting all worried, Robin heard the laugh in his voice.

“Shit, Buckley, you ate dirt. You’re still alive though, right? Otherwise Nancy will make sure I’m not.”

Robin groaned, turning to lie on her back. She felt a stinging pain in her knee mixed with warmth — a wet warmth. She looked down and, of course, a patch of blood was seeping through the material. Her head throbbed a little, making her close her baby blues again.

“Ah fuck. Don’t ever tell anyone about this or I’ll help Nance murder you, little Wheeler.”

Mike offered his hand to pull Robin up, which she took, thanking him. He looked her over once, scrunching his eyebrows.

Nancy will freak out over this. She loves you like crazy, dude.”

“Shut up, Mike.”

Robin picked up her board, half expecting damage, but it was unharmed. She shook her head at Mike’s comment, though inside she knew he was right. Nancy was always complaining about Robin skating being hot as hell while also worrying she’d return home littered with bruises. Robin would make it up to her with kisses and cuddles.
