Work Text:

My backstory

Hey, I’m Christopher Heeler… for about a year, I wasn’t too connected to my family at all. But how did this happen and how did I eventually reconnect with the ones I loved? Let’s start with how this all happened. I was born in the very early 90’s and named after my mom. Sounds weird, but that’s just what my name was after. I had a great childhood, but I was kind of an annoying kid.. haha! I was raised perfectly just like my older brothers, Rad, Bandit, and Stripe were in the 80’s. In the late 2000’s, my teenage years were a blast! I constantly went out by myself to this lookout, where I would meet up with all of my friends. One day however, I was on my way back from one of these meetups when some drunk bozo T-Boned my car… I got severely injured and missed quite a lot of school to heal up. Luckily the other driver got the blame, and he payed me in full for the damages.

It took half a year for me to walk again, but soon after I came back to high school, I met a very special girl, we would get along like sunshine and rainbows! She was a rare black and white heeler mix, which looked beautiful! We were the same age and in the same grade (11th), and we had quite the time together. At this point, it was the 2010’s, and we never got into any arguments for like 2 years. We both graduated high school together and after a bit we decided to go to college together. One night, she came running into my dorm with a positive test, We were gonna have a kid! We spent that night sitting around watching movies and genuinely having a great time. 9 months later, we were in the hospital welcoming Oreo to the world. She was the sweetest little bundle of joy. She also ended up being a Black and White Heeler, but with a few small blue spots on her back. and even better, all of the family was in the room with us.

I have had a great time for the past couple years, and so one day, I planned the vacation where I would finally propose. It was going to be a beach trip to the most beautiful section of beach on the Eastern Australian Coast. We got there and stayed at a pretty cool hotel, it had tons of cool things to do. The only thing that mattered though was finally getting to propose to her. On the last day of our trip, I hid the ring in my pocket and while we were taking a walk on the beach when I spotted a scenic viewpoint on the top of a small hill just off the path, and I knew this was the spot. We went up the ramp and found ourselves at a pretty sunset view with no one around us. I took this one chance I had and I proposed to her right there. She said Yes, and we were married just a month later. Things went perfectly for me for the next 3 years.

We raised Oreo well, and taught her most of the stuff you need to function, like walking, talking, and a few others. The hardest thing to teach her was surprisingly potty training, that one took a good couple of months to finish. She didn’t really know how to hold it well, so when she didn’t want to go, she would almost always have an accident. It was fine, and after a bit she eventually got into the hang of it. She doesn’t have as many of those now. At this point, she was 3 and was my main focus in life, But that meant I slowly started to split apart from my family, something I never left before. I still checked in on the family on Facebook every now and then, but I didn’t see them in person for over a year. I didn’t plan for this to ever happen, but that’s just what life threw at me. One day, I took Oreo to the park while my wife was at work, just a day before an interview. We stayed there for quite a while, and this is where this story begins.

Chapter 1: Reunification and the Interview

I had been playing games with Oreo for a bit, when I started to get tired. I kept playing with her for a while, trying to keep her happy for as long as I could go. Oreo was the type of kid that never did anything bad and liked listening to us, a rarity in children born today!

Me: Hey kid, can you play by yourself for a bit? I need a short break!
Oreo: Oh, ok dad!

She ran over to the slide, while I went to the benches to take a short break. I sat down and seen a very young couple come over and get onto the bench in front of me. They had ice cream in their hands, and they only looked like Pre-Teens, maybe around 12 years old… But however, I noticed 2 young kids in the bushes, spying on the couple. The girl noticed the kids and just smiled at them. The Young Blue child looked familiar, and I soon realized this was Bluey, one of Bandit’s kids!

Me: Bluey!? Is that you?! It’s been a year since I’ve seen you!
Bluey: Wait, aren’t you Uncle Christopher?! Oh my goodness! I haven’t seen you in ages!

We both ran over to each other and had a moment where we just stared. It looked like she was trying to make sure it actually was me. The couple at this point and the other young kid had put their complete focus on Me and Bluey, as we just looked to make sure it was actually ourselves. Once I fully knew, we both pulled in for a hug, which felt great.

Bluey: I’m so happy to see you, what have you’ve been doing for the last year?
Me: I’ve been focusing on Oreo, my kid, do you remember her?
Bluey: Yeah, she was a lot of fun to play with! She would have a lot of bathroom accidents though…
Me: Yeah… She hasn’t had as many accidents lately, she’s been doing very well! Do you know where your parents might be and also, who is this other kid with you?
Unknown Younger Kid: I’m Mackenzie, are you one of Bluey’s Uncles?
Me: Yeah… I am Christopher, Bluey’s Uncle… nice to meet you Mackenzie!
Mackenzie: Nice to meet you too Christopher!
Bluey: Oh By the way, Dad is at the swings with Bingo!
Me: Okay then, I’m gonna go get Oreo and get over there, come follow me for a minute.
Bluey: Come on Mackenzie, let’s go!

I took them over to Oreo, who was going down the slide over and over again, and I yelled for her to come here.

Me: Hey Oreo, I got a few special people you have to meet, come over here!
Oreo: Huh? Who are those kids? I’m a bit scared…
Me: This is Bluey, one of your cousins. You have seen her before, about a year and a half ago. The other kid here is her friend, Mackenzie.
Oreo: Bluey?! I remember her! She used to be really fun! Nice to see you, And also nice to meet you Mackenzie!
Bluey: Hey there Oreo, it’s certainly been a long time!
Oreo: Yeah… Do you wanna play something?
Bluey: Let’s go get Bingo First…
Oreo: Ooh, Okay!

We all ran over to the swings, where low and behold, both Bingo and Bandit were there.

Bandit: Wait, Is that you Christopher?
Me: Hey Bandit! I can’t believe It’s been a year!
Oreo: Gah! New people!! (she ran behind me to hide)
Bingo: Uncle Christopher!!! It’s been ages! Where’s Oreo at?
Me: I’m so happy to see both of you! Oh, and Oreo is behind me. She can be a bit nervous meeting someone for the first time in a while…
Oreo: Oh… Uh… Hi Bingo! Wanna play something?
Me: Are you Okay Oreo? You seem nervous…
Oreo: I’m okay… just a bit scared…
Me: It will be fine Oreo… they won’t do nothing bad to you… just stay calm and have fun. (I patted her head to comfort her, and it worked, like it usually does)
Oreo: Ok dad… I will try…
Me: Alright everyone, if you guys need anything, come get me and I will assist. I’m gonna stay here and get caught up with Bandit.
All of the Kids: Got it!

The kids all went out into the playground and stared to play some games. I started to talk a bit with Bandit, catching up on what I missed over the last year.

Me: So what did I miss? It’s been a year since I’ve seen any of you all!
Bandit: Well, Brandy got Pregnant, Rad got Married to Frisky, we almost moved, and also a lot of more things.
Me: Dang, I’ve missed a lot! I’ve got a interview for a job at the Glasshouse School tomorrow… I’ve always wanted to help out kids, it’s kind of my thing…
Bandit: Hey, That’s where Bluey goes to School at!
Me: Wow! That’s such good luck!
Bandit: Do you want to come over for a bit in a few days? You can bring Oreo over if you want!
Me: Yeah Sure… I got nothing to do for the next couple of days after the interview.
Bandit: Sounds good! We should check on the kids now.
Me: Yeah, you never know what they could be up to…

We both went over, where the kids were playing tag. Bingo was it, running towards Oreo to tag her. They were both running pretty fast, then out of nowhere, Oreo tripped and had no time to react. She fell face first onto the pavement, and it didn’t look too good. She instantly started to yelp and cry in pain, and so I knew that this had to hurt.

Me: AHH! Oreo!! Are you Okay?
Oreo: OWW!!! My head…
Me: Okay… stay calm… I’m gonna get you some band-aids until we can get home.

The kids all ran up to us, seeing her fall.
I lifted her up, and her face was busted open in a few spots. It looked horrible, and everyone was in shock on what had just happened. I quickly grabbed out a few band-aids from my pocket and put them on her. I always carried around a few, as Oreo would get hurt a lot in public.

Oreo: Thanks… Oww… it still really hurts though…
Me: I know… can you hold on until we get home?
Oreo: I think I can…
Me: I’m gonna have to take her home… I guess I will have come over to Bluey’s House soon!
Bluey: Aww… I feel bad for her…
Bingo: Yeah… that’s really gotta hurt!
Mackenzie: Is she even alright? That’s the worst injury I’ve seen in a while.
Me: She’s okay, I just got to get her home!
Bandit: See ya Mate!
Me: See you all later! I will text you tomorrow when I want to plan to come over!

I ran to the car with Oreo, putting in her car seat and buckling her in. We drove off, going the fastest we could without going over the speed limit. We drove through a rural section of the road, with just a few houses spread around. There really wasn’t any place to stop in case of something bad, so I was really nervous that she wouldn’t need anything while we were on this stretch of road, but unfortunately for me, that answer came quicker than I thought.

Oreo: Oh jeez, this pain is hard to control… and now I have do a wee too?! This sucks!
Me: Aw Man… the timing couldn’t be worse… can you hold it until we get somewhere?
Oreo: I don’t think I can… I’ve not done well on that in the past… and I don’t like accidents!
Me: Uhh… okay… let me pull over, your just gonna have to do it in the woods!

I found a spot to pull over and knew what I had to do. I wasn’t used to having to make my daughter do bush wees yet, but it had to be done this one time. I made sure no one was looking and blocked the view, then I let her do her thing in the woods.

Oreo: So Umm… how would I do this?
Me: I think you would just squat down and let it go… make sure it doesn’t get on your legs! You don’t wipe when your doing it in the woods, though.
Oreo: Ok then, imma try it!

I walked away to let her do her business, and a half a minute later, she came back to me, feeling relieved.

Oreo: Phew… Thanks for pulling over! I didn’t get anything on me..
Me: Your Welcome… get back in the car, we’re almost home.
Oreo: Alrighty… let’s get home!

I got her back into the car and we drove off, heading home. It took a bit longer than usual, because of the traffic. When we did get home however, we both ran into the house. Our house was a basic 2 story, 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom home, that had a nice blue color to the exterior. We loved our house, because it was a pretty nice one. I got out everything I needed and started to slowly apply everything to her face, making sure I didn’t mess up. I put on some antibiotic, some spray, a few big band-aids, and I also gave her some pain killer. I put on her favorite movie on the TV in her room, and made sure she felt better.

Me: How do you feel now? Do you need anything else?
Oreo: I feel great! You really are good at making people feel better!
Me: Glad I can help you out! Mom should be home soon.
Oreo: Okay Dad… I’m just gonna watch this for a bit. Can you give me that heated blanket?
Me: Yeah, sure! I’ll go get it.

I went to get the blanket, and got it to her quickly. She looked pretty happy with the movie on the TV, and when I came in with the blanket, her tail started to wag really fast.

Oreo: Yay! I can have a movie night now!
Me: Here’s the blanket, do you need anything else?
Oreo: Can I have some popcorn for the show?
Me: Sure, I can go make some for you, just stay here while I make it.
Oreo: Alright, hurry it up, This is gonna be great!
Me: I will be back in a minute, Just stay put.

I went into the kitchen and microwaved a bag of popcorn, I left it on for 2 minutes while I sat on my phone, texting my wife. It took a bit for her to reply, because she was driving and she had to wait to get to a traffic light to text me back.

Message Log 1: Me/Wife

Me: What’s going on?
Her: I’m on my way back from work, I will be back in 30 minutes, is everything ok at home?
Me: Yeah, Oreo had another fall, and I had to take her home from the park a bit early…
Her: Dang! How many times will she get hurt this month?
Me: I think this is the 3rd time… it’s only the 15th of the month too!
Her: Do you want me to stop for dinner somewhere?
Me: Let’s save that money for Friday… I gotta get some popcorn out of the microwave for Oreo, give me a minute.
Her: Okay then, don’t forget to text me back after this!
Me: I won’t!

Gap in Log 1.

I got the popcorn out of the microwave, and ran it up to Oreo. She was pretty happy already, but this made her extremely excited, her tail was probably moving as fast as a walking person!

Oreo: Thanks!! I’m really pumped!
Me: Your welcome Kiddo. I gotta do something for a bit, stay here!
Oreo: Alright Dad, got it!

I got back to texting my wife, and I had some news for her.

Re-Entering Message Log 1

Me: I’m back, and I’ve got some great news!
Her: What is it?
Me: I ran into some of my family for the first time in a year and a half!
Her: Oh my goodness, I thought you were never going to see them again, That’s great!
Me: I’m gonna go over to Bandit’s in 2 days to let Oreo have some fun with his 2 kids.
Her: Well, that’s nice! Are you worried about the job interview tomorrow?
Me: Yeah… but whatever happens, we will get through it together.
Her: I’m pulling into the driveway now, see you in a minute!
Me: Alright, see ya!

End of Message Log 1

Me: Hey Oreo! Can you pause your movie? Mom just got back from work!
Oreo: Nice! I’ll be there in a second!

She ran into the living room, waiting on Mom to get inside the house. When she did eventually get in the house, they clearly were both happy.

Oreo: Mom!! Your home!!
Her: I’m so glad to see you Oreo… are you okay?
Oreo: Yeah… I just tripped on the ground at the park… I’m okay now!
Her: That’s great! What have you been doing since the park?
Oreo: Dad put on a movie for me!
Her: Sounds fun!
Me: I did have to take her out for her first bush wee on the way back though… We were in a rural section of town with nowhere to stop and that was our only option.
Her: Huh… Y'all want to do something later?
Oreo: Yeah! After this movie is done, can we all play a game together?
Her: Sure… but after that you gotta get ready to sleep, You have school tomorrow!
Oreo: Okay mom, got it!

Oreo went back upstairs and watched her movie. Me and My Wife went into our room to lay down and talk.

Me: This interview is going to be hard on me, but if I get the job, we could have so much more money to keep this place nice, and we can go do so many new things! And also, I will be a much happier person working for something I’ve always liked…
Her: I know Christopher… it’s not gonna be easy, but you can do it, I believe in you!
Me: Yeah, I think I can get it!
Her: Let’s just focus on getting Oreo to sleep and then we can talk about this more.
Me: Alright then, love ya!

I went upstairs into Oreo’s room to check on her. She was at the end of the movie and she also was pretty tired, I could tell from her eyes.

Me: Ok, did you have a good day today?
Oreo: It was great! Although I fell, you made it up!
Me: I’m trying my hardest to raise you to be the best little person you can ever be… just remember that kid. I gotta get you ready for bed now that it’s over… I can see you have those tired eyes!
Oreo: Yeah, I’m really tired…
Me: Come on kid, let’s go get a bath.
Oreo: Alright…

I took her to the bathroom and got her a nice short bath with bubbles, like she always wanted. I then got her teeth brushed and took her to the toilet one more time before laying her down. Oreo was the type of person that needed someone to be next to her while she fell asleep, so I stuck around for a while. I turned on her night light and got her into bed, making sure she fell asleep.

Me: Good night Kiddo… I got a tough day ahead of me… and you have school, so get some rest.
Oreo: Good Night… love you dad…

She fell asleep, and I slowly made my way out of her room. I went back to my bedroom, where my wife was already laying down.

Me: I got her to sleep.
Her: Great, should we get some rest too?
Me: Yeah, I got a tough day…

We decided to fall asleep and the next morning, I had to get Oreo up. My wife had already left for work at 4:30, as her job started at 5 AM that morning. That also meant I had to take Oreo to school as well. I always liked to spend time with her, because again, she was the sweetest little angel anyone could ever have. I got into her room and woke her up.

Me: Good Morning… time to get up!
Oreo: I’m still tired though…
Me: I know… but you got school this morning!
Oreo: Aww… Fine! I’ll get up.
Me: That’s my girl! I’m gonna get your breakfast ready, come in here with me.
Oreo: Ok dad, I’ll be in here after I get my stuff!
Me: Got it!

I made breakfast for the both of us, and it looked really good, just then Oreo came into the room with her backpack. She didn’t look too happy, so I had to ask.

Me: What’s wrong? You look down…
Oreo: I am just so tired.. I’m just barely staying awake right now!
Me: Hmm… After you get ready, I will let you rest for a bit longer on the couch… is that okay?
Oreo: Yeah, I think that will work!
Me: Alright, let’s just focus on getting ready.

I let her eat her breakfast, and then I brushed her teeth again, took her to the toilet, and got her looking nice for the day.

Me: You’re all ready, you can go lay down on the couch now…
Oreo: Thanks dad!
Me: Make sure you don’t fall asleep!
Oreo: I won’t!

I let her rest for as long as I could, until we had to leave. I came back over to her, where she was laying down on the couch, with her backpack on the side, She looked a lot better now.

Me: Ok, we gotta leave now!
Oreo: I feel a lot less tired, we can leave!
Me: You ready to go?
Oreo: Yep!
Me: Go get in the car, we gotta get you there quickly!
Oreo: Yeah!

We got into the car and I buckled her in. We started to drive, and I made a good advantage of the backroads. I got her to school with a few minutes to spare.

Me: Ok, I’m gonna go get you signed in, have a great day!
Oreo: Ok, Bye Dad!
Me: See you soon!

I signed her in at the front office, and left. I then
started to make my way to the Glasshouse School for my Interview. I listened to a song on the radio on the way, which put me in a good mood. Soon enough, I was pulling up into the parking lot. When I walked in, there was only one person there. It was the teacher, and I assumed that this was who I was gonna be talking to.

Unknown Teacher: Hey there! I’m Calypso, the Teacher here at the school. This interview is only going to be about your interests and getting a tour of the place. You’ve already been accepted a job here, right?
Me: Yea, I got the confirmation email right here. ( I showed her the invitation letter on my phone)
Calypso: I’m glad you’ve chose to come here, this is one of the nicest schools in the area! We also have the biggest school property in the area! Come into my office, and I will ask you just a few short questions about yourself. Then we will give you the tour of the place, and then your officially on the job with me!
Me: Ok then Calypso, nice to meet you!

I walked into the office, and sat down on the side of the room.

Calypso: Your Christopher Heeler, Right?
Me: Yes indeed.
Calypso: Ok, first question: What inspired you to come and get a job like this?
Me: I have a little 4 year old girl named Oreo, and she is the cutest little Heeler dog you could ever have. She made me love taking care of kids, I just want to give them a better life while they are here. It made me feel great about my life, and it made me want to change people’s lives. I also have a cousin of mine who goes here, Bluey Heeler.
Calypso: Aw yea, Bluey… she is a great kid! Okay, next question… How did you hear about our school?
Me: I heard of this place when I got my degree for this kind of stuff, I was looking around on Google Maps to get a few places to try and get hired. This ended up being the only place close by that needed an extra employee or denied me. Then I learned from my older brother, Bandit that Bluey went here after I got accepted.
Calypso: It seems that you have had quite the journey to get here!
Me: Hah! It took 4 years in College while also studying a couple of other things too!

Calypso: What do you want to be focused on while working here?
Me: I wanna be focused on keeping everyone the best they can be, making sure these kids don’t do anything bad, or get sad. Ya know, keeping them happy! I also seen that your the only other person working, so this would give you a lot of help!
Calypso: Here’s my last question for now: Do you have any issues with yourself that you need to tell me?
Me: I do get stressed and overstimulated easily, so sometimes I have to step away for a few minutes. Other than that I don’t have any problems.
Calypso: You seem like the perfect person to help me out! I don’t have anything else to say for right now, so Let’s go tour this place!

We walked around for what feels like ages, going all around the school grounds. We have to had been through 8 different land types, including woodlands and open fields before circling back to the main building.

Me: Man, this place is HUGE! How do you even run it alone?
Calypso: It takes a lot, but I’ve been used to it for a while! Your officially on the job now, I’ll see you tomorrow at 7 AM.
Me: Interesting! Thanks for having me, and see you tomorrow for my first day.

I left that place, now with an actual job, instead of just a weekend night gas station shift. That job was just to hold me over until I got this one. I updated my Facebook Profile and posted a picture of my new workspace. I got quite a lot of notifications, because my profile was pretty popular with most of the family. I decided to grab a small bite to eat, just a medium fry from the local family roadside diner. Those were some great fries though, the traffic was horrible on my way back home. I had to get on the freeway to avoid it, which I don’t usually do at all. When I got home, I had about 3 hours to myself before I had to pick up Oreo. Those were the most boring parts of the day, but there wasn’t a way around it. I just simply watched TV for a while and then ran out for a snack in the kitchen. Now, I had about 2 hours before I had to leave, and so I took a nap. When my alarm went off and I woke up, I had about 20 minutes to get ready to leave. I made up my bed quickly and then went to the toilet before leaving to pick her up. I took the backroads again to avoid traffic. I got to Oreo’s School, and walked in.

Front Desk Worker: Hey Oreo, Your Dad is here!
Oreo: I’ll be there in a minute!
(I could see her through the window, with her friends playing around. She got her stuff and packed up, coming into the front desk room)
Me: Hey Kiddo, what do you wanna do right now?
Oreo: I don’t know…
Me: Well, I got a new job today, so I want to go celebrate. How about we go get ice cream?
Oreo: Ooh, yes! That sounds great!
Me: Alright, let’s get out of here.

I got the car seat out of the trunk and put it in the back. I buckled her in, and we took off. We didn’t have to drive far to get there, so we took our time. When we got there, I got us both some chocolate ice cream. I actually didn’t want much, so I got a small cup. This trip was actually mainly for Oreo, who got a medium cup, She really liked ice cream.
I looked down at my phone for a minute, and when I looked back up she was super happy. She had a pretty smile and her tail was going crazy.

Me: Are you having a good time Oreo?
Oreo: Yeah, I love this ice cream!
Me: Great! Do you want to go over to Bluey’s House after School tomorrow? We might be able to have a sleepover there!
Oreo: Wait, I can have a sleepover? I’ve always wanted to do one of those! This day is great!
Me: Are you done with your ice cream yet? We should get home!
Oreo: I’m almost finished! I just gotta eat this one last bite!

I waited a minute for her to take that last bite. Once she did, we went to throw away our stuff when she started to squirm and shiver a bit. I knew something was wrong so I had to ask her.

Me: Are you okay kid? Your shaking a little bit…
Oreo: Y.. Yeah… I’m totally fine… hah!
Me: Are you lying to me? That doesn’t sound too convincing…
Oreo: Nope! Not at.. All.. hehe!
Me: Are you cold? Do you have to go to the bathroom? Are you scared? What do you need? You can tell me!
Oreo: Yah! Ok… Ok.. fine! It’s actually all of those…
Me: Whoa… This is quite the pickle… What are you scared of?
Oreo: I’m scared that I’m gonna fall and injure myself again…
Me: It will be okay… just come here… (I let her up against me to comfort her, since I knew that always did the trick.)

It took her a minute to calm down, but when she did, she still was cold and had to go to the bathroom.

Oreo: I’m not really scared anymore… now I’ve got to go to the toilet…
Me: Alright… it’s over there… (I’m pointing to the bathroom door)
Oreo: Got it! Can you help me when I’m done?
Me: Yeah, sure…

I took her to the bathroom, she went in to do her thing and I sat outside, waiting on her.
It was taking a long time to her to get done, and I was kind of getting worried. I then heard faint singing coming from the bathroom and tried to listen in. It was Oreo singing, which told me in my head it was now gonna take ages to get out of here! I sat around for a good 10 minutes waiting for her to finish. She finally stopped singing, and it was just silence in there. I now thought she must be finished, and she was checking to see if had to go anymore. Soon after, I decided to get confirmation at my theory.

Me: It’s been a bit in there, are you okay?
Oreo: I just got done… can you come help?
Me: Yeah sure thing… (Phew… I was kind of getting worried!)

I went in with her and helped her out, making sure she followed all of the steps properly. When we got out of that bathroom, we left the shop to head home.

Oreo: I’m still cold…
Me: There’s a blanket in the trunk.. I’ll go get it!

Now I was going through the trunk of the car, getting a blanket. When I did get it, I gave it to Oreo and put it around her.

Me: Here ya are, now we need to get home.
Oreo: Thanks… can we take the road with the nice views?
Me: I don't see why not! We got a bit of time to kill anyway.

We drove home, taking the scenic route and stopping at a couple of viewpoints. When we got back to our house, I played around with Oreo for a bit, trying to keep her happy. Eventually, she needed a break and so I plopped her down next to the TV and gave her the remote. She decided to put on a show, and I sat on my phone. When my wife got back from work, I told her about the interview.

Me: Hey there, I got good news, turns out I got the job already from the email, and the interview was the teacher just trying to get to know me.
Her: That’s awesome!! When do you start?
Me: Tomorrow, You can drop off Oreo, right?
Her: Yea… I don't even have work tomorrow.
Me: Good… I’m about to text Bandit and get a sleepover planned since it’s been so long…
Her: Yeah… that’s fine. I bet Oreo will really enjoy that sleepover!
Me: Hah! That’s guaranteed with her!
Her: I’m gonna get to bed really early today, I’m very tired…
Me: It seems like you’ve been leaving me to care for Oreo a lot lately… it’s perfectly fine though! I don’t mind too much.
Her: Yeah… Sorry about that!
Me: I’m gonna go get her tired out for the day and then I can sleep too.
Her: Alright… got it.

I went back to the living room where Oreo was watching TV. I got her to play a few more games with me before she finally got tired. It was exhausting for me, but I had to do it. Then I realized I had completely forgotten to text Bandit.

Message Log 2: Me/Bandit

Me: Hey there.
Bandit: Hi Christopher! What’s going on?
Me: It’s about coming over to yours.
Bandit: Sure. You guys can come chill over here, tomorrow is Friday… and I figured since ya’ll haven’t been here in a while, it’s best for you guys to spend the night.
Me: I was just about to ask you about that! We will be glad to come over to spend a night! I definitely know Oreo will be pumped about it! It’s her first time at one of these…
Bandit: Well, is that a deal?
Me: Yep! We will be over after my first day at the new job! Did you see that post on FB yet?
Bandit: I know about that! Congrats Buddy!
Me: See ya’ll tomorrow.
Bandit: Alright, see you soon.

End of Message Log 2

I had almost completely forgotten to do that! If I would of not remembered, I would of been back at square one again. Just as I was thinking about the whole thing, Oreo got sleepy.

Oreo: I’m tired… I wanna go to sleep!
Me: Alright, let’s go get you ready….
Oreo: I am a bit hungry too!
Me: Ok then, What do you want right now?
Oreo: Don’t I have leftover food in the fridge?
Me: Yeah…. I’ll heat it up…

I got the food heated up for her, and then she ate. Soon after that, I put her in the bath, where after we were done cleaning her up, she told me something.

Oreo: Hey dad, I am kind of nervous to see Bluey and Bingo again at their house tomorrow…
Me: It’s gonna be okay… (I patted her head to get her to calm down.) It will be fun!
Oreo: That doesn’t help me at all!
Me: Let’s get you dried off, and then I can work something out.
Oreo: Got it!

I got Oreo out of the bath, and took her to her bedroom.

Me: What do you think will calm you down?
Oreo: I don’t know…
Me: How about we play one more game before bed? Will that help?
Oreo: Yeah, I think it will!
Me: Let’s go do it… what do you wanna play?
Oreo: We’ve haven’t played that one game in forever where I run down the hall and you roll the big ball down there too…
Me: Oh, yeah…. We can do that one!

I went into the spare room, where I kept a yoga ball for my wife, who did classes with it on the weekends, I took it out and got it ready.

Me: Are you ready?
Oreo: Yeah….
Me: Alright… 3, 2, 1, GO!

She ran down the hall and I released the Yoga Ball, it was keeping up with her pretty close, so I was worried. She eventually dove into a room, and I was relieved.

Me: That was a close one! Do you want to go one more time?
Oreo: Yeah!

I got ready again, and let it go. She ran pretty fast, but this ball seemed to be going even faster! This wasn’t good…. but luckily at the last second she dove into an open room.

Me: Wow! If that door wasn’t open, you would’ve been hit!
Oreo: Yep, that was really close!
Me: Alright, time for bed… you’ve got that sleepover tomorrow and your gonna need plenty of sleep!
Oreo: Okay…

I got Oreo to sleep after about 30 minutes of trial and error. When I returned to my room, I decided to just watch TV with my wife for a while. It was now 8PM and I had to wake up at around 5 AM to get ready, so I just decided to chill out for the night. I was about to lay down when I got a phone call. It was Bandit, who I was assuming was going to be setting the whole sleepover thing up.

Call Log 1: Me/Bandit

Me: Hello?
Bandit: Hey mate, we gotta figure out how to do this whole sleepover thing…
Me: Yeah, I gotta figure out how Oreo is gonna get picked up, I don’t get off until 3 and I gotta pick Oreo up at 2. I think I can just have my wife pick her up, she ain’t got work tomorrow.
Bandit: If she doesn’t want to, I could do it for you.
Me: It’s fine… they probably would need mine or her stuff to sign her out anyway…
Bandit: Aw yeah right…
Me: So, how will we all get there at the same time?
Bandit: I’ll go get You and Bluey from School, you can leave in front of us we can follow you to your house. Then after that, you will pick up Oreo and we will head to our place.
Me: Sounds good, as long as we don’t have to pull over for anything, that’s a great idea!
Bandit: Alright, now how long will the kids stay up?
Me: I think we should just let them stay up about an extra hour or two… I don’t want them to be too tired in the morning.
Bandit: Yeah, fair enough…
Me: What should we make the kids for dinner?
Bandit: I was thinking on just gettting some fast food from somewhere… I’m saving my groceries for the weekend.
Me: Yeah, I do that too… Everything here seems settled, now where is your house again?
Bandit: (ADDRESS) [I redacted the house address for safety reasons]
Me: Got it, I wrote it down.
Bandit: So are we all good here?
Me: Yeah, see ya soon.
Bandit: Alright, Bye.

End of Call

I now had a complete idea of what the sleepover was going to be like. I stayed up for a little bit longer on my phone, looking at Facebook trying to catch up with my family. The time was now 9 PM and I drifted off to sleep for the night. The next morning was my first day at work, but how was that going to go?

Notes:

The first chapter is currently the only one finished. I am working on the second chapter, but it might take a bit longer to complete because I’m back in school. The next one is gonna be a good read so when you get the chance, come back and check for the second chapter! I’m currently halfway done with chapter 2 as of Jan. 24th 2026.

UPDATE: The second chapter is close to being done! I hope to release it before april.
