Work Text:

RING!!!

‎The sound of the bell rang loudly, almost too loud. Duri quickly rummaged through his school bag and checked the time on his phone.

‎11:50 a.m.

‎He sighed and got up. It's a Tuesday, don't tell anyone but.... Duri absolutely hates Tuesdays.

‎Because..

‎Tuesdays are when Duri is most busy. Always. Tuesday. Curse past Duri for participating in so many clubs.

‎He looked at his WhatsApp and there it was. A barrage of messages from different clubs.

‎The Student Council, the Photography Club, the School Newspaper, the Broadcasting Club, STEM Club and finally, his personal favorite, the Gardening Club.

‎Duri blinked. Once. Twice. Thrice.

‎And sighed for the nth time today.

‎-

‎The first and most important club was definitely the Student Council. He IS the secretary after all. So there he was, carrying a stack of papers for Gempa, the Student Council president needed to sign.

‎There were atleast three stacks he needed to carry. One for sports day, the second a stack of papers that Miss Ying needed, and the last stack was for Miss Yaya.

‎Oh and a few papers that was for competitions.

‎The walk to the Student Council room was brutal, his hands were starting to hurt, his legs were giving up on him and his bag keeps falling off of his shoulder.

‎Duri swore he could hear hurried footsteps behind him.. Maybe it was his imagi—

‎"Oh? Duri?" a voice spoke from behind, and Duri has never been more glad.

‎He turned his head and saw Blaze, his face had a new bandage, weird. His hands looked rough and his appearance was unkempt. Like he had just fought with someone.

‎Duri just silently hopes he didn't just fight someone. Or multiple people. As Blaze looked at him expectingly he quickly regained his composure.

‎"Blaze! What are you doing here?" He exclaimed cheerfully, sometimes he wonders on how he, himself can be so cheerful with a workload of work.

‎Blaze eyed Duri up and down before practically snatching half a stack of papers Duri was carrying.

‎"You look like you're struggling, so I'll help! To answer your question, I just needed to meet with Gempa so might aswell follow you" Blaze explained before turning his head to look at Duri.

‎".. You are going to the Student Council room, right?" He asked, blinking a bit too quickly.

‎Duri simply nodded, smiling brightly and walked side by side with Blaze.

‎-

‎Duri waved goodbye to Blaze as he exited the Student Council room and turned to Gempa, who was looking stressed at the amount of papers he needed to sign.

‎"Gempa, this stack of papers is for Sports day so after you're done with it you can call me over, I need to give it to the principal." Duri stated as he pointed at a stack of paper before averting his eyes to another.

‎"—And this one," he continued as he pointed at two stack of papers "is for Miss Ying and Miss Yaya, so teacher will collect it from here. Just label it so Miss doesn't get confused." Gempa nodded, as he stared at a few papers that also needed signing.

‎"This is for?" Gempa asked, holding the few sheets on paper in his left hand.

‎Duri blinked and smiled.

‎"Ah- this one is for the upcoming STEM competition, Solar needs it by today so you should sign these first" Just as Duri finished speaking — the door opened and Supra, the vice-president walked in.

‎Duri quickly went to Supra's table and told him what the stack of papers were for.

‎"Supra, this is for the science competition and this is for the national math competition, you're participating in both of them so Teacher Gopal wants you to sign these yourself"

‎Supra nodded and replied with a quick 'thank you'. Duri quickly went back to Gempa's table and got the STEM competition papers.

‎He grabbed his bag and slinged it over his shoulder, papers in hand and said a bye to both Supra and Gempa. But not before whispering a bye to a sleeping Frostfire, one of the Student Council's treasurers.

‎-

‎Next, was the STEM club. Solar had told him there was a meeting at around 1:30 p.m. and by pure coincidence it just so happened to be 1:26 p.m.

‎.. If Duri sprinted he would be able to reach there in 3 minutes rather than 5.

‎And so he sprinted.

‎-

‎That idea has been added to Duri's limitless list of bad ideas. Not only is he slow but he practically has no stamina.

‎Well, good thing is that he's finally reached the STEM room. Bad thing is that he's completely out of breathe and probably has 30 seconds max before he passes out.

Thankfully, as he opened the door, there was almost nobody except for Solar and Halilintar.

Wait. Hali?

As Duri stared at the two, mouth agape, face full of confusion. Solar coughed and explained.

"Hali is here because he's also joining the competition."

Halilintar looked at Duri and had a face ice cold. But it quickly changed to something.. Much softer. In Duri's eyes, atleast.

"Oh.. That's why.. Where are the others?" Duri asked, scanning the room once more.

Solar shrugged and turned back to the whiteboard full of confusing math equations and science formulas. Halilintar simply stared at the whiteboard and rolled his eyes.

Now Duri wishes he was late.

-

The meeting itself was boring in general, Duri almost fell asleep. Solar, the president was leading the entire meeting, talking about things that Duri didn't quite catch on.

Despite being the vice-president, Solar had insisted to do almost everything by himself and refused to let Duri help in any sort of way that included him doing  things that burned him out.

He's not a child, he's certainly more than capable to atleast lead a few people. But Solar seems to think otherwise and it makes Duri.. Kind of mad?

As the meeting ended, most club members had already left, leaving the trio alone in the club room. Duri handed the signed competition papers to Solar, which Solar gracefully accepted.

Their teacher in charge, Mr. Cahaya had asked them to prepared several innovations for the competition. Solar and he, well mostly Solar had brainstormed a few products that been accepted and asked a junior, who was talented in art to sketch the innovations and send it to Duri.

"Duri, the competition's on the 17th, not 16th right?" Hali asked, packing his things.

Duri replied, "Mhm, it got postponed a day later since the competition venue got changed." Hali nodded and zipped his school bag up, slinging it over his shoulder.

"Well, I'm off. See you tomorrow." He spoke, already outside of the clubroom. Duri gave a wave while Solar ignored the latter.

".. Duri. Have you sent the sketches to the teacher yet?" Solar remarked, fidgeting his hands together.

"Yupp!" Duri replied enthusiastically.

"Right." Solar muttered, eyes darting back and forth from the whiteboard to Duri. Duri blinked, almost five times before deciding to leave.

Duri said a quick goodbye to Solar, to which, Solar smiled at and waved back at him.

-

Luckily for Duri, the broadcasting club didn't have much assignments for him, but he did have to radio broadcast tomorrow and on Friday during lunch.

The Photography Club was his next stop, he and been given endless assignments.

First, was to take a photo of the newly made school building that just so happened to be at the other end of the school, atleast a 20 minute walk away from the Photography Club.

Next, send the pictures to President Sori, whom would edit said photos and give the edited versions to Duri.

Third, photos of the soccer team, archery club, karate club and taekwando club in order.

And lastly, give the personal therapy cat treats. Why was that even an assignment?

Duri quickly retrieve his camera from one of the lockers in the Photography Club and made his way over to the new school building.

It was currently 2:12 p.m. , most club activities excluding sports had already finished. He saw multiple students still outside though, mostly hanging out with eachother.

Since the school building was still quite far, Duri decided to take a few photos of the scenery, Sori would like them.

-

After what had been like hours, he finally reached the new school building and got to work.

There were 15 new rooms in total, most were for clubs and for juniors classes.

And so, Duri got to work.

-

Snap!

"Well, that's the last one." Duri uttered to himself, quite happy with the photos he had took.

He quickly got his phone out from his bag and sent a file of the photos from the camera to Sori.

Not even 2 minutes later, Sori had already replied with a 'Thank you Duri!!(。>‿‿<。)'

Duri smiled at the little emoticon, just where did Sori even get them? But he made no attention to it, turned his phone off and made his way over to the soccer field.

During this time of the day, they would already be done with practice. However, Duri was able to consult with the coach and made their training an hour longer. It benefits both the team and Duri.

A win-win situation for both.

-

So here Duri was. At the bleachers, attempting to capture the picture perfect photo of the soccer team.

Both Blaze and Taufan were the coach's best athletes, so they were sweating the most.

But even so.. Sitting at the bleachers.. It was way too hard to capture a photo that had the best quality of all of them.

So, logically, Duri did the only thing he could think of. Stand super close to the field while they are practicing shooting goals. It's not like Duri would get hit by a ball on the head.

Right?

-

Haha. Fuck the universe.

First second, Duri was at the soccer field trying to take candid photos and the next, he's at the nurses office, head bleeding and a possible concussion.

Next to him was Blaze and Taufan, both worried but Taufan looked like he was on the verge of tears.

"Wah!! Duri! I'm. So. So. So. Sorry! I didn't mean to kick the ball to your direction!" Taufan rambled, hugging Duri so tight, Duri might as well stop breathing.

But he could only weakly pat Taufan at the back and mutter out a quick,

"It's alright, it's mostly my fault for being so close to the field."

Taufan sniffled and stared at Duri with wide, glossy eyes.

"B-but!" Duri sh'ed him and pinched his cheek.

"It's alright, stop worrying! I'm not dead!" Duri exclaimed, smiling brightly as if he hadn't just pass out.

Blaze sighed and offered to help Duri by making the entire team pose so Duri could take a much better photo and wouldn't risk getting hit by a ball once more.

To which, Duri gladly accepted.

-

"Okay! Say, cheese!~" Duri cheered, focusing on the camera.

"Cheese!" A barrage of voices yelled, as Duri snapped the photo.

.. It was definitely more better than what Duri had imagined. Thank you Blaze.

Duri giggled and said his thanks and goodbyes to the team, which they all gladly replied back.

-

Now, Duri's at the school gym, snapping photos of the archery members as they practiced. Archery practice lasts until 7p.m. , since they start at 3p.m.

One photo was of Ais, Blaze's younger brother, having perfect posture and hit a bulleyes as soon as Duri clicked the shutter.

Another one was of Glacier, Frostfire's twin brother whom looked absolutely ethereal while holding the bow, so of course, Duri being Duri, just had to snap a photo of the guy.

Duri could feel his head hurting but paid no mind, he's used to having headaches anyways.

The last four weren't any special, just some photos of juniors and the coach leading them.

Even so, Duri is still impressed. How they manage to get a perfect score of ten on competitions is simply fascinating.

Just before Duri left, Ais called out to him.

"Duri."

Duri turned and saw Ais, wiping his sweat with a towel.

"What's wrong?" Duri asked, confused since the two weren't exactly close.

Ais muttered something to himself before replying,

"Tell Blaze to wait for me at the front of the gate. Also, tell Frostfire, that Glacier wants him to go home as soon as his Student Council duties are done."

Ah. So that's what this was. Of course it's about Blaze.

Sometimes, Duri thinks Ais is a bit too dependent on Blaze, but maybe it's just him.

Duri smiled, "Sure, I'll tell him!"

Ais smiled, just a small curve on his lips.

"Thanks." Before walking away.

Before Duri made his way over to the other school gym where both the Taekwando Club and Karate Club train at, he made sure to tell Blaze and Frostfire what their brothers had asked him to tell them.

Blaze let out a sigh and thanked Duri, squishing Duri's cheeks. Ouch.

Frostfire nodded and pinched Duri's hand. Double Ouch.

-

Finally, Duri was at his second final stop of the day (for photography atleast).

He looked around and decided to snap some photos of the Taekwando team first, Gentar and Sori are close friends. By pure coincidence, Gentar also does Taekwando, so Duri snapped a photo, maybe even two of said boy.

The next photos were just students struggling with the splits and normal practice, like kicks and other stuff.

Duri turned to the other side of the gym and found himself taking photos of Halilintar and a junior he didn't recognize, Py-, no, Nova.

Halilintar was already a black belt in Karate so he was definitely skilled. But for some reason, Nova whom is a white belt looked more energetic and had  perfect kicks.

Which left Duri a bit shocked, but hey, it's cool! Screams are what Duri heard most of the time at the gym. But he did take cool photos. Even if it meant sacrificing his eardrums.

-

Just as Duri was about to leave, he received a notification from Sori.

'Duri!! I'm done editing the photos!'

school.building.file12

'Also, since ur probs already at the 2nd school gym, mind going to the 3rd one and take some photos of the badminton team?'

'Rimba requested me to take some! (≧▽≦)'

Great. More work.. But since a junior did request it would be rude to not accept the request.

Typing....

'Okay!! I'll send the photos later!'

Sori reacted with a '❤'

Now off he goes to the 3rd gym. Thankfully, it isn't as far and is only a 3 minute walk.

-

As soon as Duri arrived, he heard loud smashes from the rackets.

Multiple rounds were being held, most of the referees were seniors, and most of the players were juniors.

But one particular round did stand out, it was a round with Beliung and Blizzard.

Ah. So that's why Rimba requested. He wanted photos of the two playing.

And so, Duri got to work

-

Snap!

That was it. Finally, Duri was done. All he had to do was go to the photography club once more, give the photos to Sori and give the therapy cat, Tori, treats.

-

"Here you go Tori~ you can get all of the treats you want!" Duri remarked, cooing at the cat.

He had already sent the file of photos to Sori, who gladly replied with a thank you and sent the edited versions not even 5 minutes later.

He's done. Like actually done with the photography assignments. After like an eternity.

It's now 3:36 p.m. , the school newspaper would need to be submitted by tomorrow morning, which meant Duri would have to pull another all-nighter.

But since that's out of the way.. He can finally go to the school garden.

He put his camera away and pet Tori before closing the door shut.

-

The school garden is nothing short of impressive. After all, he had grown most of the plants here. Almost all of the club members had already went home at around 2p.m. , there was practically no need for Duri to still be here.

But Duri did grow attached to it, the garden. It's beautiful. Really beautiful.

As he checked all the plants to see if any caterpillars had eaten the leaves, he heard a voice.. Not behind but.. In front of him?!

"Duri!" A cheery voice exclaimed, a voice crack evident when he practically screamed Duri's name.

Duri stepped back and saw it was none other than Rimba, covered with dirt. Behind Rimba was Sopan, looking much cleaner but his hair was a bit messy.

Rimba smiled and started to ramble on how he and Sopan had planted so many new plants.

Duri found himself unable to back away from the conversation and listened. Fully.

-

By the time Rimba and Sopan had gone home, it was already 4:10p.m.

The two were friends because of well, the club and did most of the workp, helping juniors, and basically anyone in the club.

Duri, whom is the president is really grateful that the two are able to help with the club while he's away.

.. Duri should be going home now.

But an hour with the plants wouldn't hurt.

-

A ding from the door was heard as Duri stepped inside of the empty apartment. Both his parents are overseas for work, so he's alone most of the time.

He took his shoes off, put his bag on the couch and sat, feeling relieved and much more happy being home.

Unt he heard a notification, this time, not from Sori, but from Solar.

'Duri, you forgot to give me the duplicate sketches for the competition.'

Duri blinked. Had he? There was no way right?

Duri quickly rummaged through his bag. And pulled out three papers. Of the sketches.

Oh.

He quickly glanced over at his phone.

It's 6p.m. , there's no way Duri would go back to school.

'I'll give you them tomorrow!'

Deleted.

'Sorry!! I'll send it to you!'

Deleted.

...

'I'll come back to school and give them to you!!'

Sent.

What was Duri thinking?

He sighed and slung his back over his shoulder, walked to the front door of the apartment.

Thump!

The door behind him closed.
