Work Text:

Basil and Sunny had just recently got married! Neither felt a honeymoon was necessary, so decided against it. Instead, they decided to use the money they had saved on a house.

To say they weren’t disappointed, was an understatement. They had painted it green, per basil’s request, and decorated it in decor that felt like grandma’s would put in their front yard.

What were they doing right now? Well the newly wed couple were doing their daily chores!

Basil was currently folding laundry outside after hanging the clothes to dry like he always does. Meanwhile Sunny was making lunch for the two of them, fettuchini per Basil’s request!

As Basil continues to do his chores, he begins to think. He doesn’t know how he just got so lucky! Having Sunny as a is husband truly so amazing!

Sunny always takes care of Basil when he’s sick, feeds him when Basil feels just too lazy to get out of bed. Making sure Basil always feels loved, and constantly caring for Basil’s needs!

When they were wed, Basil was sure his head would implode at how red he was!

Sunny constantly teases him that he should’ve been called “Tomato.” However Basil knows he was just as flustered as Basil was that day!

Basil let his mind wander to that night.

Everyone had a blast. It wasn’t a big wedding. Though, Basil totally could’ve funded a big wedding with his family’s wealth if Sunny would’ve liked! However, Sunny said he just wanted a small tight knit wedding with all of their childhood friends and close related family members.

Kel was raiding the fruit punch the entire time. Aubrey was badly singing along to “…Baby One More Time” and every other Brittney Spears song, while Hero was sharing cake with his new girlfriend he met in college.

Basil’s parents weren’t able to show up, but that’s fine, he didn’t expect them to anyways. Polly made up for it by showing up with gifts like vodka and other.. ahem, miscellaneous objects for their honeymoon. Polly was actually the biggest funder in their wedding! Besides from Basil’s parents who just funded the wedding and then dipped when they were no longer needed. Basil didn’t care though. If they didn’t show up, it was fine. It’s not like they were even real parents to him anyways.

Sunny’s mom was crying the entire ceremony. Though Sunny’s mom was a bit skeptical of Basil after the whole ‘ripping Sunny’s eye out’ incident, she grew to love him. Though, it did take her a while to fully trust him. She probably still didn’t completely trust Basil even now! But, she was happy to see her baby boy get married. (And Basil was happy to marry him.) So he’d say they’re probably on good terms now.

Basil felt it was safe to say that his wedding was the best day of his life. Being able to kiss Sunny and fully commit to him felt like a dream come true.

Though, Basil wishes his grandmother could’ve seen him get married to Sunny.

She was always so understanding with him. She would constantly tease Basil about having a crush on the black haired boy. Basil would always get flustered and tell her she was wrong. Though, she never stopped.

She was the parent his real ones never were. She would take him to the park, they’d garden together. Make cookies shaped like flowers, read ghost stories before bed! When he was 3, his parents abandoned him with her. Although he may have wished they didn’t back then, he’s so glad they did. He got to feel real motherly love from her.

When her health started to decline, Basil was sure he wouldn’t be able to handle it. All the problems and guilt he carried came crashing down the day she died. He was ready to die with her the night

But then Sunny came back.

Sunny, his best friend, the love of his life. He was able to pull Basil out of the darkness.

They have gone through so much together. Basil doesn’t know how his life would’ve been if he hadn’t met Sunny. He’s so glad he got to meet him.

They had saved 2 seats that day. One for his grandmother, and one for Mari.

Oh sweet Mari… the sun truly did shine brighter when you were here.

Basil still remembers the motherly aura she emanated. The younger ones would swarm to her like a moth to the light. She never made them feel inferior or lesser to the others.

She was like his grandmother in a lot of ways. Always teasing Basil about having a crush on Sunny, baking for them. Helping him with his homework, all things a mother would.

Maybe that’s why he felt so connected to her.

He still feels guilty about what he did to her that day. The night that was supposed to be a great achievement for the two siblings. Yet it ended in disaster with Mari losing her life to a mistake…

He will always feel guilty for what he and Sunny did that day. But he chooses to push forwards, and walk hand in hand with everyone like Mari would’ve wanted.

As Basil gets lost in his thoughts, he feels a tap on his shoulder. Which makes Basil slightly jump.

When Basil turns around, he sees Sunny smiling at him. His Sunny.

“Lunch is ready, Bas.” Sunny says with a small smile.

Basil smiles back at him, and swiftly moves his lips to connect with Sunny’s cheek.

“Thank you Sunshine, I’ll be there in a second.” Sunny slightly flushes at the nickname, but nods and heads to the dining room.

Basil finishes folding the laundry and looks up at the sky. He feels the wind blowing on his face. The cool wind reminds him of how lucky he is to be alive, and married to Sunny Suzuki. He wouldn’t trade this life for the world.

“Basil! Come on, the pasta is getting cold!!” Sunny yells as his voice echoes off the walls.

Basil laughs and walks inside, “I’m coming! Give me a second Sunny!”

Yes, by Sunny’s side is where Basil has always, and will always belong.
