'Damn the ceilings dark'
Those were one of the thoughts going through Cassidy's head as she lay on a mattress in her friends room. Turning to look at the alarm clock on his bedside table, she had been laying there for two-ish hours now.
'screw this' she thought as she hoisted herself up into a sitting position and then standing upright.
A bit of scrambling around and looking for her hoodie later, she opened the door quietly as to not wake Dave up. Moving as quietly as she could, she was heading towards the kitchen.
-What are you doing up this late?
Pausing at the sound, she turned her head and thanks to the light behind the figure (and the few window around allowing the moonlight in) she could see the figure quite fine.
-.. I.. couldn't. sleep...
She said in her naturally quiet voice as she slumps her shoulders while looking down at the floor, as to not directly look at William leaning against the living room door frame.
She started rubbing her upper right arm with her left hand while kicking at the ground with a small frown on her face when William sighed loud enough for her to hear it. Obviously, he noticed it.
-Go get some water and come to the living room
It wasn't a request, but an order. He didn't say it like she HAD to do it, but she had a choice to do it. He had turned around to go back to the room for god knows what so he didn't see the small nod Cassidy gave him.
Cassidy had found a mug left on the counter and poured some water into it after double checking ot was clean enough. Carrying it carefully, she headed into the living room. There was a side table that had a couple of books, a small light that was on and a steaming cup of something on it. She held her mug close to her knees and looked around wondering where William could have gone to.
After a short while of waiting that could've been 10 minutes, William came back, holding a small bundle of something that looked like it would be soft and fluffy. William sat down on the side of the table, placing the pundle in-between himself and the arm rest. Cassidy quietly drank her water as he was sipping his own drink and going through the books that were on the table.
-Do you read much?
The question had Cassidy almost choke on her water as she hadn't expected him to start up a conversation.
-Not that often because I can't really access many books, but I guess I prefer the ones with animals
When William had finally picked out a book, Cassidy had already finished the water and was now hugging her knees to her chest. William pulled her closer so that she was leaning against his side with his hand holding her to make sure she didn't leave. While it had been surprising for Cassidy, she felt comfortable in the hold. Then William surprised her even more by starting to read out loud. It was something about an elephant learning self acceptance because he was different from all the others, but Cassidy couldn't remember.
Cassidy squinted her eyes when the bright light went on. Shielding her eyes, she lifted herself up with the support of her elbows. She looked over at the bed and Dave was trying to suffocation himself in his pillow to get away from the light. Had she fell asleep on the couch? Or was it just a dream?
-Get up you two, we're going out
At the door of the room, was Dave's brother standing there
-whaat? This early?
-Its literary 1Pm Dave
Michael retorted back before leaving the room. Dave went to his walk-in closet grumbling, while Cassidy just threw on something from her small pile of clothing she had brought along.
