Spared From Change

Summary:

Darkstalker wishes he could change it, wishes he could have his Clearsight back.
I want to go back. Take me back, take me back to where it all went wrong. I want to see just for a moment.
Magic is quite the literal thing.

Work Text:

Apparently, it was a spell.

He cast a spell entirely without meaning to, which was unlike him.

I want to go back. Take me back, take me back to where it all went wrong. I want to see just for a moment–

Darkstalker was squished back in his old room, from way back before his lover and his friend worked together to betray him.

In a cave, before he woke from two thousand year slumber to come live in the palace.

He screamed.

Not him, not the version of his eyes he was looking out of right now, but the one he was looking at.

Him at the age and size he was when he enchanted those damned earrings.

That was the bad thing? He was helping her, helping Clearsight! What was different?

Yes she didn’t know… but it made her life better! All up until she’d taken them off.

It couldn’t have been all that different, he was helping her just like every spell before that she asked for.

All he wanted was to make her life better.

He wanted everything to be perfect for his Clearsight.

He opened his mouth– the version of him that he was currently inhabiting, that is. But what would he say? If he changed anything for this younger, smaller Darkstalker, would it all change for him? Or would this one follow a different timeline, leaving the Darkstalker he was now in the same predicament?

Was it worth changing?

Don’t– he started.

Moment over, Darkstalker– the only Darkstalker– was alone in the Great Diamond again.

Alone.

In this desolate version of his home.

He’d done what he did to help Clearsight, that couldn’t have been it.

She was just ungrateful.

Notes:

This one's my first time trying to get in Darkstalker's head, I think I like what I did here.
