Work Text:

He’d been up writing all night and hadn’t really been paying attention to the time. It was always cold in his apartment. The heater was busted and he’d lied to Jimin about it on multiple occasions because his angel boyfriend would suggest he get it fixed but Yoongi had a horrible fear of confrontation, so he kept it cold. It wasn’t too bad most of the time, though days in late December were pretty hard. Yoongi could visibly see his breath but it didn’t stop his fingers from working diligently on his laptop. Occasionally he’d grab the pad of paper next to him and jot down an idea for a later work, but typing was really the way he prefered to go.

“Hyung, you’ll freeze, turn on the heater or something,” Jimin had said subsequently to arriving at Yoongi’s place. “Do you need a blanket?” Yoongi noticed how the shorter boy didn’t bother to take off his coat or scarf.

“Come here,” Yoongi held his arms out and Jimin wandered into them.  As soon as they were touching, Yoongi felt heat surge his body. The electricity made even the tips of his toes toasty warm. “You’re all I need,” Yoongi whispered into the crook of Jimin’s neck.

Days like Saturdays were the days Yoongi had it the hardest. He didn’t have work as a distraction and the quiet of his apartment had an eerie overlay. It was something he could hardly ignore and he was thankful when he heard the warm voice creep up from behind and envelop him.

“Hyung, turn on the heater and it won’t be so quiet,” Yoongi turned to face the shorter and smiled.

“Why would I do that when I have you to talk to?” Yoongi heard his voice crack, remembering he hadn’t slept the night before.

“Yah, I’m not here all the time, Yoongi, plus it’s freezing.” Jimin was wearing the same coat he always wore.

“Not anymore,” Yoongi whispered to himself. He thought maybe he needed a glass of water.

“You can’t say that every time I come over and it’s cold.” Jimin smiled despite his words and Yoongi thought that he was the incarnate of the sun. His teeth were blindingly light and, if Yoongi was being totally honest, he was hot as hell.

“I can,” Yoongi nodded and patted the couch next to him. There were some pillows in the way but Jimin moved them aside to take their spot,

“And you will, but you really should work on getting a blanket on or something.” Jimin touched Yoongi’s cheek. “Your skin is ice cold.”

“You always say that,” Yoongi closed his eyes and melted into the touch. “Say something else.”

“Yoongi, I have to go now,” Jimin pecked Yoongi’s cheek with all the tenderness in the world.

“You always say that too.” Yoongi felt the tears coming. “Can’t you stay a little longer?”

“I love you.” The warmth diappeared.

“Not again,” Yoongi’s eyes darted open with his own shout as he tried to calm his heavy breathing.

“Yoongi, it’s late, you should head to bed.” Jimin’s hands rested firmly on his shoulders.

“Just a few more minutes,” Yoongi mumbled into the screen of his laptop.

“You said that hours ago,” Jimin whined. “You always work late, I want to spend the night together, just once!”

“Okay,” Yoongi breathed, finishing the sentence he’d been working on. “We can do whatever you want now,” Yoongi saved his document one last time before shutting off the computer. Jimin’s face brightened, as if that were even possible.

“Really?” Jimin leaned down close to Yoongi’s ear and gave it a small tug with his teeth. “Anything I want?” His whisper resonated through Yoongi’s entire body and sent a shiver down his spine.

Yoongi always stocked up on groceries. Going out wasn’t necessarily his thing. He had been mentally preparing himself for the impending doom of his grocery trip for about two days, and waited until there wasn’t even a single grain of sugar left in his kitchen to go out. He made sure to shower well, and dress like an actual human being before grabbing his wallet and heading for the door.

“It’s cold outside today,” Yoongi glanced at Jimin to his right, still wearing that same coat, and then down to the tank and shorts he’d taken to putting on, then to the sun in the sky. It wasn’t even the slightest bit chilly.

“Yeah,” Yoongi whispered. “It kinda is.” The rest of the walk was silent, until they got to the freezer aisle of the store.

“God, it’s cold.” Jimin’s voice always crept up slow and hung in the air.

“Mhmm.” Yoongi stopped walking. He looked around to his left and right. What was he looking for again? He laughed to himself at the hilarity of the situation, ignoring the stares from those around him. Jimin joined in his laughter briefly, then both of them stopped at the voice to Yoongi’s left.

“Sir, are you alright?” It was an older woman, who looked to be in her late forties. She seemed kind enough.

“Oh, yes, sorry to bother you, ma’am. Just thought of something funny is all,” Yoongi tried his hand at the sweetest smile he could muster up and the woman seemed to think it was enough, because she nodded happily before wishing him a good afternoon and walking off.

“Jimin, I think we should head back home soon,” Yoongi said quietly. Jimin nodded.

“Jimin, come over here,” Yoongi was grinning ear to ear, his breath coming out in white clouds. The mountain was quiet except for them. It had been their dream to reach the top one day, but this wasn’t it. They’d done this trail a million times and it only led about a quarter of the way to their goal. Even still, the air was chilled well below freezing, the snow making it even colder.

“Gimme a second,” Jimin hollered back. He was still a bit behind, the slope quite a challenge in the weather conditions. It was especially cold that night.

“Wow” Yoongi looked over a railing on the trail. The lighting from the city below shown beautifully from the height.

“It’s really cold up here,” Jimin said when he approached his boyfriend.

“Well, it is Christmas,” Yoongi smiled even bigger, pulling Jimin into his side for warmth. Jimin leaned in to kiss his cheek, but Yoongi turned his head so lips met lips.It started out slow, but Yoongi tilted his head to deepen the kiss, turning Jimin’s body to face his own. Fire surged through his bones until he hardly felt the chill of the mountain seeping through his clothes.

Jimin pulled away first, panting by the time it was over. “We should head to my parents’ house,” he whispered, placing his forehead against Yoongi’s.

“Just a few more minutes,” Yoongi pleaded.

“Your skin is ice cold,” Jimin mused.

“It’s cold as shit,” Yoongi pointed out.

“Yoongi, I have to go now. I love you.” Jimin placed a kiss on his cheek before pulling away. When he went to take a step back, he had forgotten where they were. Jimin’s foot slipped on the ice, sending him tumbling down the mountain.

“Jimin!” Yoongi was pretty sure people on the other side of the world could hear his shriek.

Yoongi woke up in sobs for the eighth time that night. He curled into the spot that Jimin should be in. He was horribly aware of how cold it was despite it being mid August.

“Yoongi, you really should turn the heater on,” Yoongi heard the voice behind him.

“Leave me alone,” another sob wracked through his wrecked body.

“It’s really cold up here,” Jimin said calmly.

“No!” Yoongi held his pillow up to his ear while firmly placing the other against the mattress.

“Your skin is ice cold,” Yoongi felt the ghost of  a hand on his cheek and he tried his best to shake it off, tears still firmly flowing down into the sheets.
