Ah, nothing like living in the Upper East Side during the holiday season. Snow was falling, Christmas decorations adorned the streets, people were caroling waay earlier than usual; this winter was perfect.
Not for Hyuna though. Luka’s 33rd birthday was near, and she had no clue on what to buy him. A Cartier watch? Already bought that last birthday. Giorgio Armani cologne? He didn’t even finish the damn bottle yet, so why bother buying another one? On top of that, the penthouse was half decorated for Christmas! She and Luka were so busy prepping food for Genevieve’s school’s Christmas party a day ago, she completely wasn’t aware that she had a gigantic ass penthouse to decorate within a few days. Fortunately, Genevieve’s on winter break, so she doesn’t have to worry about that anymore.
She was eating the remaining leftovers for Genevieve’s party on the sofa, poking the fork on a chicken leg, contemplating about if she should just go out and buy more decorations. That was until she heard a high pitched voice right next to her.
”Mommy?”
”Yes hun…”
Hyuna didn’t even bother looking at Genevieve since she was still mentally making that decision in her head.
”I have a friend coming over today. Don’t be mad but, I wonder if you can make a snack for her.”
”…”
Silence ensued.
”What’s her name?”
Hyuna broke the silence. She switched the topic so Genevieve wouldn’t mention anything about cooking or prepping. Not after she broke her back going through hours of trial and error just to make French food that Luka begged her to make.
”Drew.”
”Drew Barrymore?”
That was when something clicked into Genevieve’s head. What if she said that Drew Barrymore is coming to their house right there on the spot? Maybe then she’ll stop acting like this. So she came up with that plan indeed.
”Mhm!” Genevieve nodded her head.
Hyuna’s eyes widened so suddenly, slowly turning her head to Genevieve.
“She has to be joking…” she muttered in her head.
Just like that, Hyuna sprung up from the sofa and rushed into her and Luka’s bedroom, where Luka was sleeping. Heck, he hadn’t even woken up yet. Hyuna didn’t care though. She wanted him up and ready.
”Luka…” Hyuna whispered into his ear. He was deep in his sleep. Obviously he wouldn’t wake up immediately.
”Luka.” Hyuna’s voice got a but louder, but not too loud to startle him from his slumber. That wasn’t doing much though, and she grew impatient.
”LUKA! GET YOUR ASS UP!”
Luka jumped from Hyuna’s voice. His sleepy, golden ‘I-got-nothing-but-5-hours-of-sleep’ eyes met with her serious ‘we-got-shit-to-do’ eyes.
”Don’t even think about lying back down on that bed. Drew Barrymore’s coming to our house.”
”Drew…Barrymore? Like the actress”
”Yes you dumbass. Now get up and get the vacuum. I need this entire house spotless.”
All Luka could do was deeply sigh and follow what his wife said. So he slowly got up, stretched, rubbed his eyes, and trudged to the storage closet where the vacuum was. While he was making his way to the closet, he spotted Genevieve, who was casually walking to her room, sipping a small glass of milk.
”G’morning daddy!” Genevieve looked up at Luka with a somewhat elated expression. Something rare since she always felt groggy in the morning.
“So you invited Drew Barrymore to our house huh?” Luka’s voice was gentle. He didn’t feel like talking loud because hello? He just woke up.
So now another person is in on her plan? Perfect. Now she has two people to mess with.
”Yup!”
”I’m so proud of you.” Luka smiled, thinking that his daughter would finally boost he and Hyuna’s reputation as actors even more, despite already being A-list actors themselves. They just like a bit of association y’know.
11:30 a.m.
It’s been more than two hours already, and the house looks somewhat clean. Hyuna was huddled in the corner of the kitchen, head down, hair covering her face. She was exhausted. She made an extravagant five course meal all from scratch, still not thinking that it’s enough. But who gives a flying fuck right now? She just wants to rest that’s all.
For Luka, turns out that he not only vacuumed the living room, but also did a deep cleaning all over the penthouse. He scrubbed the walls, mopped the floors, and even tidied up the books that were scattered near the bookshelf that he refused to touch since he was ‘too tired and lazy to do it’. Since all of his energy went into cleaning the entire house, he just couldn’t do anything else, so he lay on the couch, snoring his life away once more. At least the house was pristine, the table was set, sugarplum scented candles were lit to ignite the Christmas mood. The scenery was something out of a movie
Genevieve didn’t have to do anything but clean her room, so she was still the most energetic out of everyone.
The entire penthouse was still, until…
*Ding Dong*
Hyuna and Luka jolted awake.
”It’s her…” They both thought. Hyuna bolted to their bedroom door to change into something more fitting for the event. Luka scurried behind her as well. They didn’t want to be seen as ‘embarrassing’ or ‘classless’, especially when a well known celebrity is entering their home.
There they stood, looking more elegant than ever. Luka in a high quality suit and tie, with his hair tied back so it won’t get in the way, and Hyuna in a red silk dress with earrings and a necklace to match, looked at each other, nodded, and slowly approached the door.
”Welcome Drew—”
”oh…”
As Hyuna opened the door completely. She was in disbelief. She was expecting a woman standing at their door. But that wasn’t the case at all…
What they saw was a little girl, possibly around Genevieve’s age with black, long, wavy hair and glasses. She did not look like Drew Barrymore. Not a single bit.
”Hi Mr. and Mrs. Lafayette!”
“hey…”
Hyuna weakly waved back. Disappointment shrouded her all over. She did another three grueling hours of cooking, and two mental breakdowns, just to be reminded that the so called ‘Drew Barrymore’ wasn’t even coming to their house in the first place.
“Wait one second here okay?”
”Luka just take her in. I’m so gonna kill Genevieve once I find her…”
Hyuna tugged Luka by the side of his collar, whispering in his ear. She really didn’t want Genevieve to get away with this, and will make sure that she would get punished no matter what.
”GENEVIEVE!” Hyuna stormed into Genevieve’s room, clearly not having it at the moment.
”You told me Drew Barrymore was coming to our house. Who. The hell. Is she?” Even though she was filled with pure rage, she had to keep her composure.
”That is Drew Barrymore.”
”No she’s not.”
”Yes she is”
”Were you thinking about the celebrity?”
”what…”
Hyuna was between confusion and being done with Genevieve’s bullshit. She was still trying to process why her daughter would make her and her husband go through hours of cleaning and prepping just to realize there was no damn celebrity coming into their house. She might as well just eat all the food to herself and wallow in her sorrows at this point.
”Silly mommy! You got it all wrong! Her names Drew Berrymoore! B-E-R-R-Y M-O-O-R-E!” (That wasn’t even Drew’s last name. Her last name was Carlson)
All Genevieve could do was laugh it off and meet Drew and Luka at the dinner table, leaving Hyuna frozen, eye twitching out of pure anger, in her room.
That was how Genevieve ragebaited her family the end :)
