Work Text:
Sugishita was sitting at his desk after school hours had long passed. He was trying his very best to get his work done. If there was one thing he truly hated, it was homework. He couldn’t bring himself to just sit around and focus on something so meaningless and empty for such a long time! Sugishita really hates the academic part of school. It’s undeniably boring. And right now, it was also being made extremely difficult.
Kiryu sat atop of his desk, his legs hanging off the side. He sat up with a pout plastered all over his face. He was waiting for his classmate to finish his work. He was so tired! He knew Sugishita only had a few problems to do, so why was he taking so long? That was ridiculous. How could he, in good conscience, leave a cute guy like Kiryu waiting for so long?! He was only being so patient because Sugishita owed him something.
The other day, Sakura was going on his usual mindless rant about getting to the top of the school and what not. Sugishita got all annoyed, which was another usual occurrence. He started throwing chairs and yelling. The two of them got into an argument, then a brawl. Kiryu had been brutally hit by a rogue chair during the chaos! And now Sugishita was taking him to a restaurant after school as a heartfelt apology.
“Sugishita~” Kiryu mumbled, looking impatient. “How much do you have left?”
“.. Not much.” Sugishita replied grumpily, he had been staring at the same page for almost ten minutes now. His issue wasn’t even that he didn’t understand it, because he did. He just felt zero motivation right now.
“How long do you plan to keep me waiting?” Kiryu swung his legs back and forth off the desk, frowning.
“You don’t have to wait. We could always go tomorrow instead.” Sugishita huffed. He didn’t even ask Kiryu to wait for him, so why did he have to hear his constant whining?
“Hm? But that’s no fun. I’d just be waiting even longer!” Kiryu poked Sugishita.
“Then stop complaining.” He said, keeping his eyes on his papers.
“But I don’t wanna wait anymore.” Kiryu said dramatically.
“Then don’t. I already told you that you're free to leave.” Sugishita replied, he was exhausted from listening to Kiryu.
“You're such a slow worker.” Kiryu commented while jumping off the corner of the desk. He instead pulled a chair up.
“What’re you doing?” He looked confused and Kiryu scooted closer.
“Helping.” He shrugged with a smile.
“Why..?” Sugishita looked confused.
“The quicker you finish, the quicker we go on our date.” Kiryu explained with a grin. “So, what are we working on?” Sugishita paused for a long moment, the word “date” catching him off guard. He blinked a few times.
“Math.” He finally managed to say, blush spreading across his face.
“Let’s see!” Kiryu said, observing the paper. Sugishita really looked adorable when he was flustered! Kiryu felt accomplished when he saw his bashful expression.
“Right.” Sugishita nodded. With Kiryu’s help, he somehow felt more motivated. It was way easier to focus when he had someone pointing at the problems. Kiryu was swinging his feet back and forth again. They were sitting so close together that Sugishita felt his legs moving with every push. Something about the closeness made him even more nervous. They finished the work rather efficiently.
“Mhm, all done!” Kiryu said in a sing-song tone. “Now we can go, you better not keep me waiting any longer, or I might lose interest~” He teased. Sugishita had no clue what it meant, but it sounded flirty. That was enough to make his heart skip a beat.
“Sure.” He mumbled, walking with Kiryu down the hall.
“You know, when you take someone out, it’s customary to hold their hand!” Kiryu smiled.
“No way.” Sugishita looked away, hiding his red face at the implications.
“Awh man, you’d make a horrible boyfriend, Sugi.” Kiryu said, shaking his head scoldingly.
“Shame.” Sugishita replied sarcastically. They walked next to each other down to the restaurant. Kiryu was basically skipping. He was on a date with his dearest Sugi, after all! He had always found him to be a rather interesting guy. He was really glad to get the chance to hang out like this.
“We’re here.” Sugishita announced with a monotone voice.
“Hold the door for me?” Kiryu suggested, earning a sigh from Sugishita. He did as he said anyway though.
“Hm? Hey, guys.” Kotoha tilted her head. “Are the rest of them with you, or just you two?”
“Just us, we’re on a date.” Kiryu said, mostly kidding.
“Serisously? Congrats on that..” She looked surprised.
“He’s joking!” Sugishita blushed, looking embarrassed as Kiryu was laughing.
“Mhm.. Just kidding.” Kiryu said suggestively, sitting down at a table.
“I’m gonna kill you.” He huffed in response, sitting across from him. Their food was ordered and served shortly, they sat comfortably while eating.
“Sugi, can I ask you a question?” Kiryu tilted his head with a playful smile.
“Sure.” Sugishita looked a little curious.
“What kind of girls do you like?” Kiryu asked, taking a sip of his drink. Sugushita didn’t really have an answer. He just hadn’t really thought about it. When you're in a school full of boys, thinking of girls isn’t a regular occurrence. At least not for him. He wondered if that was really normal though.
“I dunno. I’m not the romantic type.” He muttered, hoping that answer would suffice.
“Huuhhh? But that’s so boring.” Kiryu sighed in disapproval. “You don’t have any kind of features you’d like in a lover?”
“I already told you, I haven’t given it a lot of thought.” He said defensively.
“Such a buzz kill, Sugi.” Kiryu said lightheartedly.
“Whatever, if you're gonna ask me something, make it a better question.” Sugishita crossed his arms.
“Hmm..” Kiryu thought before smiling again, seeming like he had an idea. “Well, is this the first date you’ve been on?” He asked. He always asked those things so casually! Sugishita looked embarrassed once again.
“No, because this isn’t a date at all.” He responded, trying to keep his cool.
“Okay, but if it was, would it be?” He asked, looking very determined to get an answer.
“I mean.. I guess?” He sighed, defeated.
“That’s so exciting!” Kiryu laughed, liking the look on Sugishita’s face. The two of them sat silently for a couple of minutes. “Regardless of whether you accept this as a date or not, I’m glad you agreed to hang out with me. I’m having lots of fun.” He said, looking very sincere.
“Yeah, me too, I guess.” Sugishita said, looking flustered by the genuine conversation. Kiryu found that to be pretty adorable. The two of them finished eating and decided to depart. Sugishita paid for their food and the two of them waved goodbye to Kotoha.
“Wanna walk home together?” Kiryu suggested, looking over to Sugishita. The other boy had a very conflicted look on his face. “Something wrong?”
“No, just.. Look ahead for a minute.” Sugishita said softly. Kiryu looked confused but did as he said. Quickly, Sugishita took Kiryu’s hand in his own. Kiryu blushed, caught completely off guard by the action. When he looked at him again, Sugishita was closing his eyes tight. Kiryu paused before bursting into laughter.
“Pfft- haha! Ah, jeez! You're just too cute, Sugi!” He laughed, finding the action utterly adorable. He was very pleased, to him this felt like Sugishita finally accepting their little departure as a date.
“Shut up.. Let’s go.” Sugishita held his hand, guiding him down the sidewalk.
“You knowww.. Some people would end the first date with a romantic first kiss-” Kiryu started.
“Pushing it.” Sugishita shot back.
“Right, Right..” Kiryu sighed, fake pouting before a smile emerged on his face. “Maybe next time?” He tried teasingly.
“... Maybe.” Sugishita blushed, causing Kiryu to laugh once more. Kiryu definitely thought this was the most fun he ever had on a date. Mostly because it's confirmed something that he had been wondering about for awhile now. Yeah, he definitely had a crush on Sugishita.
