Chapter Text
*ding*
As another customer walked through the door Toothpaste let out a huge sigh. After 3 hours, making coffee gets pretty old, and the smell becomes unbearable. She didnt even look up from the machine she was messing with. Rose could get this one she couldnt be bothered. Then she felt a tap on her shoulder, "Your boyfriends here," she turned as Rose was walking away.
"He's not my bo-," before she could finish Rose was already in the backroom
"Im taking my 15," she called out.
Great. Atleast it was her favorite customer. She walked over to the counter with a smile, "Hi Fern," she sounded way happier than normal. Fern had been a regular for a couple months, but he and Toothpaste had become more friendly in the past month.
"Toothpaste, how are you today," Fern was practically beaming at the counter. His smile was so pretty its all she could focus on.
Toothpaste took a moment to respond "Oh- you know its been ok, long shift. How are you, were you closed today?" He was here earlier than normal, usually his flower shop is open until 4.
"No, but it was slow today so i closed early," he paused for a second, "I brought you some lilies." He grabbed a small bouquet from below the counter and held them out as he looked away.
Toothpaste began to blush as she admired the white and yellow bouquet wrapped in a pink bow, "Oh wow these are beautiful," she grabbed the flowers to see a light pink pansy in the center matching the bow. "Thankyou so much," her smile grew even bigger as she smelled the flowers.
Fern was looking down towards the counter trying to hide his rosy cheeks, "Dont worry about it, its just something small," His face got redder as he shifted his eyes to the floor.
"No seriously thankyou for these," before she could realize she was reaching over the counter to hug Fern. It took him by surprise at first, but after a moment he reciprocated. As he hugged back both their faces heated up.
Toothpaste quickly pulled back once she realized what she was doing, "So um-uh just the usual today?" Her face was bright red as she began to make his regular order.
"Yeah the usual," Fern stuttered. His eyes were searching for anywhere to look, but they kept landing on Toothpaste. His cheeks heated up with every glance. Each time she'd look towards him his eyes would shoot away as he fiddled with his fingers.
When he got his coffee he left quicker than normal, handing her a 10 before walking out. As he walked out the door, he still gave Toothpaste one of his smiles and a wave. She waved back and giggled to herself before smelling the flowers again and smiling to herself. Rose walked out of the backroom just in time to catch her.
"Lillies today?" she said with a look on her face.
Toothpaste rolled her eyes and walked towards the backroom. "I need to put these in a vase," she said trying to hide the fact she was blushing.
"So did he hug you or did you hug him first," she had a full smirk at this point.
"SHUT UP," Toothpaste yelled from the backroom, "Im going on break."
Toothpaste grabbed a vase out of her locker and began filling it up with water. Fern had been bringing her flowers atleast once a week for about a month now. After the second time she started leaving a vase in her locker just incase. All her coworkers had noticed how her mood shifted when Fern came in and they'd begun to tease her, none more than Rose. She smelled the flowers once more before placing them in the vase. She hadn't recieved many flowers before this so she kept them until they withered away. She looked forward to seeing Fern again, despite their awkward interection today. She was a bit happier the rest of her shift. Though once Sticker and Sidewalky got there she clocked out almost immediately. She couldn't wait to put her new flowers in her living room, although with a 7th bouquet she was running out of vases.
