Work Text:

“See anything?”

“No…it’s all dark, still…Can’t even see the moon…”

“Weird.”

A waxing crescent moon was high in the sky, shining down on Ohse and Fumiya as they fiddled around with the new(?) telescope Fumiya bought from “some guy with a big coat and sunglasses.” They had set it up at a hill near the house, expecting to look up into space with it, but it wasn’t going as planned at all.

“Are sure the person you bought this from said it would work?” Ohse asked, adjusting the telescope to no avail, only seeing darkness through the small lens.

“Maa maa maa,” Fumiya murmured.

Ohse sighed and echoed. “Maa maa maa…”

Fumiya rested her head on her girlfriend’s shoulder. “Do you like space, Ohse?”

“I- I guess so…” Ohse awkwardly crouched a bit with how Fumiya was getting up in her space. “Mmm…it’s not even that cloudy…I thought we’d see some stars, at least.”

“What do you like about space?”

“Eh? Um…” Ohse pulled away from the telescope, playing with the cuff of her sleeve as she thought of an answer. “I like…how beautiful it is. Beautiful…and cold…and dangerous. Unfit for humans…It’s a place I want to go and get lost in…”

“Mm. That’s a good answer.” Fumiya’s head turned up to the dark sky. “I read about it sometimes. I like how humanity has so much to study it, yet there’s still so much we don’t know about it. That’s why I picked up this telescope for us. We can see it for ourselves”

“There’s not much for us to see either way…” Ohse stepped away from the telescope, plopping down onto the grass.

Fumiya promptly lay down next to her, scooting up close but keeping her empty purple gaze up at the sky. “Hey, Ohse.”

“Mn.”

“If you were one of the planets, which one do you think you’d be?”

“I don’t want to be a planet…I want to be space junk that gets sucked into a black hole.”

“But if you had to pick one of the planets in the solar system, which one would you be?”

“Ah…” Ohse’s lips pressed together in light. “Uranus…It’s a broken planet that doesn’t spin on its axis correctly. That’s how I am, compared to everyone else…It put itself back together and came out wrong. It should have just stayed in pieces…”

“You’re not really talking about Uranus there.”

“…Yeah.”

“Hm.” Fumiya’s eyes shut for a moment as she stayed silent, then slowly opened back up again. “I wanna be Pluto. All the way at the end, keeping an eye on all the others from outside.”

“Mn…We’d be close together, but Neptune would be in between us…”

“Yeah.”

“Who would Neptune be?”

“…Iori. She’s there so she can serve is.” Fumiya smirked slightly. “Amahiko is Jupiter, Terra is Saturn, Kei is Venus, Rikai is Mercury, and Tora-san is Mars.”

“Then who would be Earth?”

“None of us, I guess.”

“You could just be Earth, you know…since Pluto isn’t really a planet.”

“Nah. I still wanna Pluto. It’s closer to you.”

Ohse’s cheeks flushed a light red, though it was hard to notice it in the darkness. She turned and inched away a bit, changing her angle just Uranus. Suddenly, she was silently rolling down the short hill, down to the bottom and into the grass, rustling in the night breeze.

Fumiya soon followed deliberately, rolling down the hill and landing right on top of Ohse.

“Maybe you shouldn’t be Uranus,” Fumiya suddenly said, pulling herself up. “Or space junk.”

“E-Eh?” Ohse blinked, staring up at Fumiya. “W-What should I be, then?”

“A rover.” Fumiya slowly dragged her hand over Ohse’s stomach. “You can roll around and take pictures of stuff in space. That suits you a lot better, doesn’t it?”

“I…I guess.”

“And one day, the planet you’re on will get sucked into a black hole.”

“Will you be the black hole, Fumiya-san?”

“Sure, if that’s what you want.”

Ohse nodded, her head tilting up to beckon Fumiya to come closer. Fumiya got the message, lowering down and kissing Ohse softly.

They sat up together, with Fumiya pulling Ohse up and then running her fingers through her thick, tangled hair. “Want to try the telescope one more time?”

Ohse nodded. “Okay…”

Fumiya pulled Ohse up to her feet and led her back up the hill. They slowly trudged back up to the telescope, starting to mess around with it again in hopes of a clearer view.

“…Ah.”

“What is it?”

“I think I found the problem.” Fumiya unscrewed the lens cap off the telescope. “Try it now.”

“…Okay.” Ohse crouched and peered into the telescope once more. “…Ah!”

“Do you see anything now?”

“I do…! I see the stars,” Ohse beamed, still adjusting the view. “So many…They’re so bright…”

Fumiya was looking at how Ohse’s yellow eyes lit up, and she smiled too. “They really are.”
