Summary:

After befriending the two meatworld folk, Sam has an interaction with Stargazer, who they didn't think to mention.
He tries to help the injured Stargazer, but Stargazer sees just how much Sam really needs help...

Work Text:

Sam is chilling, playing games, when he hears something stumbling around outside his door. An agonized screeching- screaming?- follows too many legs wherever they go.

Sam pauses the game and walks to the door, picking up the bat beside the door in his right and only hand. He opens the door cautiously, and scans his surroundings.

There's nothing in the halls illuminated by artificial lighting, except for this blue substance. Sam follows it into an adjacent apartment 31.

The door is wide open and it's pitch black inside, though one thing he can make out is the pile of shattered glass on the floor. The screaming thing is hot on Sam's trail, but he turns and nothing is there, besides his own shadow.

He's befriended Spine and Ribs from that meat world, even cooked them food. Maybe this creature was one of them, trying to lure Sam into darkness to be able to communicate? What even was that blue stuff?

Sam enters and allows a lot of room in front of the doorway, in case it's needed. He shoves his back against a wall and stares at the air between the doorframe.

Something comes into focus, unlike Spine and Ribs. It's revealed barely in the dark, as multiple telescope-like protrusions stare straight at Sam, and not just his face.

One of them, however, is broken, glass shattered and that same blue substance oozing out. The poor thing is injured.

Otherworldly star particles surround the thing on all sides, quivering like a heavy pant. It wails idly before lunging at Sam, though it trips to the ground.

“Hey, WOAH- WOAH- Hey!”

Sam hits his elbow on the wall when he tries to step back, his heart leaping into his throat momentarily.

“I’m not gonna hurt you, okay?”

As the thing gets back to its feet, Sam drops the bat to the ground and raises both arm and stub up in surrender.

“You look hurt. Can I help?”

It pauses, for a while, as if thinking. Then, the wails become this grating noise with dead syllables, though one word slips through.

“KrrHHHgh... Hhghhel..p... Yyyouu... rrrghhh….”

Sam can't make it out, so he takes a step closer, despite the creature’s mass. What , him?

“I have bandages, one sec.”

Sam pulls off his backpack and unzips it in one action, taking out a full roll of gauze. He'll probably need it.

He steps closer and uses his teeth to unravel the roll a slight. He lifts his arm up to the telescope, and it grabs ahold of him.

It claws violently at his skin, but no deeper, as if specifically trying to flay him. Sam screams and drops the gauze.

Why would one of these creatures be like this? Be so… harmful? Sam was helpful to it!

Sam flails in protest, but it's no use. He is cornered, quite literally, and this thing is probably four times his weight and has at least twice the amount of arms.

And it tears Sam's flesh off the muscle, but keeps the muscle on the bone. Infernal agony alights every nerve as they're stripped away, and as limbs are added and melded into him.

Though, somehow, there's care to the touch. The speech is a deep wheeze and every meld is made with precision, not hatred.

Despite the lack of skin, one of its hands even holds Sam's own, as if to offer him comfort. As if to apologize.

Sam is remade. It's the worst pain in existence, something even having his arm bit off cannot compare to.

Despite the overwhelming fear, the fear of pain and of death, Sam stays awake, alive, conscious. Able to feel every prod and poke. Able to hurt him more at every meld of tendon to bone, both of which weren't there before this.

Sam is remade as something wrong. He is left as an exhausted mess in another's apartment, unsure of what the future holds. Sobs that don't sound like sobs wrack Sam’s too long chest as the comedown from the adrenaline gets him too tired to stand, to struggle, to squirm.

Sam is enveloped in a cold, gentle embrace. He's sure it's a glimpse of heaven, or hell, before he is sent there.

Oh, how naive he is to think he deserves such a gentle fate of death.

Notes:
