Here Lies "Hiraeth" Where the Meadows Wilt.

Summary:

Hiraeth means "Nostalgia" or "Bittersweet Longing", and what is longing to a child that grew up in adults' wear? Do they long for their childhood, or are we too dense to see in their world after we've left ours? Well, don't fret. We can always look back, no matter how much it hurts us. For us, it's a chapter in a book that we had finally closed. Another year is another book, or another decade is another book. No one is to judge.

A meadow is the least of our worries.

Unless you forsake all that is beautiful.

Chapter 1: A Trail of Blood.

Summary:

A meeting of finality. Or atleast, that's what he thinks.

But don't forget that every dandelion is a pest that's meant to be destroyed like the vermin it is.

Chapter Text

A blank slate, white as a canvas as a boy with lilac hair remained stood and idle. He was gazing into what seems to be a mirror with gold trimming. It echoed with voices, not his, nor what came from this stagnant place. Calculated and calm. A voice mature and contemptuous always responded back to the mirror that spouted such oddities with relentless execution. It wasn't brief nor long, a steady conversation with a quick disclosure as the mirror had disappeared with the blink of an eye. The boy even fixed up his glasses afterwards until he was alerted with footsteps. It certainly wasn't the person he was speaking to earlier, it was another being, and that placed his guard up in a matter of seconds.

Then, suddenly.

He appeared behind the figure, his hand grasping its neck with a tight force as he brought it to the air with no remorse as he remarked. A proud, snarky voice broke the silence; "Well, you're certainly not who I was hoping for nor were you ever invited within such a place. You do harbor some animosity with how your eyes glint, dread and distress will inarguably not help you with the situation at hand. You intruded and you are going to experience the consequences." A whimper from the person escaped as the boy tightened his grasp, tears started to fall onto the floor. The person started wailing and squirmed, distressed as it didn't seem to understand the situation at hand.

"P, please." A timid voice croaked out of it. "I, I mean, I mean no harm! I promise." Anguish filled its voice, shaky and hesitance settled in. Tears kept hitting the floor, creating small ripples on the pooling water beneath the person.

"Hm." The boy hummed as he immediately withdrew his hand from the person's neck, watching them collapse to the floor, clutching both its own chest and neck while panting. That possibly scared the thing but intruders get what they ask for. They came here unannounced, in his personal void of all things, he's not going to let that go unnoticed. "I'm, I'm. I'm sorry." It weakly apologized with a wary and frazzled voice. It turned to look at him, sage or olive colored irises gaze at him, their pupils were dilated from all the adrenaline they were experiencing. "I, I didn't mean such. I promise. I don't know where I am." They stated, quivering as those piercing eyes of the boy continued to glare at them, tears soaked their face and attire. They seemed to be truly out of place in this bleak world, colorful clothes, messy hair, asymmetrical clothes, how atrocious. A disgrace to order that existed within this world. An eyesore.

A sniffle came from the person as they wiped tears off of their face with knitted brows. "I'm truly sorry." They apologized, once again, staring up at him before finally standing up with shaking legs as they kept staring at him.     "I appreciate your honesty, yet you still intruded without a formal statement on why you're here. You're whimpering like a child, how old are you anyways, boy?" The lilac haired boy inquired while fixing his glasses with a huff which immediately stirred strong emotions from the other person; "Child? Boy?!" Their voice seemed to have heightened as their stance stiffened. "I am neither of those! I'm in my teens and I'm also a girl. Well, I don't necessarily feel like a boy or a girl." They retorted with an irritated expression as they jabbed a finger at his chest. The statement made the entire conversation stiff and stagnant with silence before Romeo finally utter; "I had miscalculated." A distant tone came from him before he cleared his throat and the light from above obscured his eyes from his glasses. "I should be the one to apologize with this."

"H u h."

"You heard me."

"My morals are screaming at me, I never intended to hurt any young nor a girl. It's also because I have a younger sister." He stated before crossing his arms and placing a hand beneath his chin, his gaze behind his glinting glasses had narrowed. "By-the-bye, you never answered my question of 'why are you here'?" He inquired once more with some condescension within his voice.

"Uhm, excuse me?" A meek question came from their lips before rubbing the back of their own neck with a look of sincerity. "I honestly don't really know how I got here. I had recently collapsed from exhaustion. I might be, nevermind. It could cause bad luck if I had said the word within this space." They trailed off, looking onto the floor as her foot started tapping. They seem to want to avoid the topic all together. However, the boy had already seen through it. "You must think this is a dream, hm?" And that question made the person shiver and shook their head, "It's not! Right!?" They asked in a frantic manner, getting close to merely shake his shoulders. That ended with the lilac haired boy pushing the brown haired person away with force that caused them to fall onto their knees.

"Forgive me for bursting your bubble but you're truly not in a dream nor a lucid one with this state of mind. We're not in a dream or I'm a figurative entity, I exist outside too. Now, I was wondering how you ended up in this very world if you don't even remember what had happened. How clueless." He remarked, contemptuous and calculating as he walked around the person before grabbing them hood and obstructing their vision with the hood in an oddly playful manner. "Well, this isn't suppose to concern me." He scoffed at her trying to get the hood off of their face in a panicked manner. "It's not going to kill you, you do understand that, right?" Another mock came from him. He's still quite guarded yet he isn't as pressed as he was.

"I know it won't!" They protested in a muffled tone, finally able to fix their hood and hair. "I thought you didn't mess with ladies!" They shouted before the lilac haired boy just scoffed; "You said that you view yourself as neither of each gender, so I'll treat you as such as I see fit." He had retorted while tilting his head at them, looking smug with knitted brows. "I'll treat you as the intruder that you are but given that you had stated that you're biologically a woman, I won't do anything I'd do to others." — "Again! I am not an intruder, I accidentally arrived in this meadow and you're being annoying as hell. I am merely trying to communicate," They had been cut off as the boy glared at them. "Meadow? You say? You see this world as a meadow? How curious. This has gotten more odd by the minute. I suppose that's the effect of my theater or the Dream-like Reality. But regardless, I don't see myself benefiting from the likes of you." As he rambled on, the brunet sighed, even rolling their eyes upon hearing his ramblings on what causes the miscommunication between the two of them. "I just want to get out of here. I have a brother to take care of." They murmured while crossing their arms to hug themselves, comforting themselves. Those motions didn't go unnoticed from those dark hazel eyes of his. "You're an older sibling too?" He asked, rather casually. "Not really. My big brother is sickly. I take care of the man regardless of our age difference." The brunette replied while playing with a loose curls from their braid. "He had gotten an illness as what our village's doctor stated, one that cannot be cured nor reversed." The brunet continued to speak, peaking the curiosity of the lilac haired man as he placed a hand on his hip and one under his chin. "Interesting. The roles had flipped between siblings. You must be awfully tired." He sympathized as they shivered, feeling quite uncomfortable with the topic.

"Whatever, it doesn't concern you since we're both strangers and I truly wish to come back to the real world." They spoke, looking around with a furrowed expression, causing the other to squint at them with displeasure. "And we were just getting along." He sighed, approaching the person before he'd sudden lift them up by their neck, once again. "I'll grant you that, but remember to breathe when you had awakened from your unconscious state. It's unwise to remain in the cold." He spoke as his grasp tightened.

The scene slowly turned white, the struggling had stopped, tears even welled up in their eyes.

Finally, they woke up. Cold and covered in snow, a fox gaze back at them before retreating into the hills of white.

Where are they now?

Were they lost?

Why was there the scent of something metallic lingering within the room?

They have to go home. They needed to go home. They have someone sick waiting for their arrival.

Standing up, they dragged their frigid and weak body through the fluffy whites, creating a path with their footprints. Droplets of red paint the footprints behind them, clutching their side as they shivered, wincing even. They looked at their gloved hand and realized, they had a massive scratch that tire both cloth and outer flesh. Luckily, it didn't claw it's way into their flesh. Was it from a fall? They didn't know what happened and why they collapsed then and there.

"Brother. I'm finally coming home."

Notes:

Hiya! Creator here! No, this fanfic will not be a ship with Bedman. It's more of a complex dynamic that strives away from both platonic and romantic.

Also, uploads of new chapters will be rare as of now because we're approaching our finals within our school and I've been getting a massive headache with all of the outputs I have to juggle with my ideas. I might just upload this in every other Saturday or Friday. Depends on how I'm feeling.
