“What the hell happened to him?!”
Adrian and Zach stood at Jason’s door guilty as hell at 10pm. Usually orders are to turn in at eight, but here the both were: scratched up, embarrassed, and leaving a bloody bloody mess on Jason’s door frame.
Zach spoke first, nasally. Blood gushed from his nose as he rushed to speak. “He-!“
“Zach fell during a sparring session,” Adrien interrupted. “But… I may have misplaced my foot after he punched my chin.”
Zach shot an annoyed glare at his red friend. “You did a fancy kick thing-! And then it was black for a couple seconds…! And now! We’re here!”
“Shhh! People are sleeping, what do you mean by a fancy kick?” Jason started to pull the two into his room. He grabbed a clean towel from his drawer and pressed it onto Zach’s face who made a surprised sound. “Don’t take that off. Adrian, what did you do?”
Adrian scoffed, his voice was light, but his eyes betrayed the iciness his words held. “It’s only fancy if one just completed Basic Training.”
Jason was torn between being super annoyed and feeling sorry. He remembered reading about the strict training Adrien endured as a child in his file. Mix that with his unchecked temper and… “Adrien don’t tell me you went all Scorpion on Zach? Haven’t we already lost enough on the Affinity?”
He regretted the words as soon as they left his mouth, but everyone knew Zach still got lost during drills. What bruised Adrian’s ego so hard tonight where he had to ask Zach of all people for a spar late at night?
“Fine I tripped him and he stumbled into a bench with his face.” Adrian snapped. “Happy?”
“Oh yeah, I'm super excited waking up in the middle of the night to have a guy bleeding out in my room. ECSTATIC.” Jason said.
“Oh thank god.” Zach took the towel off his face for a brief moment. “We thought you were gonna be pissed!”
“Pissed is an understatement.” Jason said before pressing the towel back in his face. “Our Medics are busy helping other Spartans with actual injuries. Why couldn’t you guys wake me up with something normal… like with a puppy or something?”
“Oh please.” Adrien said. “Zach and puppy aren’t much difference. You’re the only one here with medic supplies in room. I mean- after banning them because Super General caught Rex huffing hydrogen peroxide and watching pony-toons.”
Jason held back a laugh, he didn’t want to reward Adrian for causing an incident tonight. Instead he focused on the task at hand while extending his anger to Rex now.
“Get me a damp towel.”
Adrian watched as Jason gently wiped away at Zach’s face. Hand tilting and moving the Spartan’s head around.
Adrian scoffed, “You do not need to be that close to him, I did not cause much damage.”
“Yeah well I don’t have my reading glasses, I need to see if there are any cuts on the skin.” Jason had his eyes focused on Zach but still sounded irritated at Adrian. For a brief moment he thought he saw his thumb graze Zach’s lip. “Zach you have a cut on your lip.”
“Oh well sound alarms.” Adrian rolled his eyes. “Zach has boo boo.”
For the first time tonight, Jason took his eyes off the new recruit and set them furiously at Adrian. “Y’know if you’re gonna keep complaining, you can leave.” As his leader faced back to Zach, he muttered under his breath. “It’s not like you’re being much help anyways…”
“Aww Adrian can help if he wants,” Zach said. “I think I need a couple bandages in my mouth.”
But Adrien said nothing, no witty comeback to either of his comrades. With a huff, the red soldier stood up and left.
Hearing the door open and slam shut stung Jason’s chest. It’s always been a challenge working with the red soldier. So why did he keep tolerating it? Worst of all, why did Adrian keep coming back?
“Shit what did he do…there was so much blood… are you sure you’re not in shock right now?”
Zach almost pulled away from Jason’s grasp, still miffed at his red friend, “Oh! I’m so in shock! I can’t believe Adrian would trip me! On purpose!
Jason shook his head, “No that’s not what I-wait open your mouth.”
“Oh I know that one, you’re not gonna trick me-“
“Oh gross, shut up, your tooth is chipped.” It was the front one next to his canine. Surprisingly, Jason was not against this new look, it might’ve even been adorable along with his messy hair, beauty mark, and…
Like Zach and puppy are much different.
Jason's face felt hot. He could feel Zach’s breath on his cheek and his hands now on Jason’s who must’ve felt him tensed.
“Is it that bad?” There was no mistake in Zach's voice carrying worry. Jason finally pulled away.
“You should look in the mirror.” He tried to shrug the interaction off. “Maybe dental could fix it?”
“Oh no it’s that bad?!” Zach was never the type to care about his looks, but if Jason couldn’t even look him in the face then it had to be astronomically horrible!
And then Zach explodes because he's embarrassed and the author is carsick. The end.
