Chapter Text
Four years have passed since the events in the cat kingdom she's twenty years old now , but those were precious memories for her, the adventure, Muta, Toto, and all the others, she miss them especially Baron.
The girl replayed the memories of the events as if they were a movie, blushing the moment she remembered saying that to the jade-green-eyed cat, just before saying goodbye.
He said he adored a women who spoke from the heart, but Haru thinks he didn't understand modern terminology; the cat was from the era of barons and baronesses, dukes and duchesses, of course he would never understand... or so she thinks.
All the moments with him were short but magical; she even forgot about her old crush back these days, Machida. He never had eyes for her anyway the only things she got were the laughs he gave when the teacher used to humiliated her in front of the class.
If she never got the attention of a simple boy from her former class, what about the attention of the gentleman who had saved her?
All she had left were dreams and memories, she knew that she never saw the orange cat again, even though he said the Bureau doors would always be open for her, for some reason she never visited them.
These thoughts were breaking her little by little. Baron was the first to help her, He rescued her, carried her in his arms, and gave her back her freedom and humanity before it was too late. Who else would do all that for her?
Well, he did it masterfully. He's probably saved many damsels in distress before, carried them like he did with her; for him, it looked like a walk in the park.
-"I'm just another one of those damsels in distress. God knows how to dance properly with him. I'm not a damsel, I'm just another commoner in this princess-in-distress story. I'm just a background character in someone else's story..."
Poor woman, her mother and best friend thought she was crazy just for saying she understood cats, her former crush saw her as just another girl, maybe even a clown, and now... now she's lost, not knowing what to do.
Haru thinks she has no talent whatsoever, she doesn't have the beauty of a princess, she doesn't have the grace of a cat; she's just another girl lost in a world of dreams and fantasies.
"Baron..." - tears welled up in her eyes as she remembered the dance in the ballroom. She had never felt so safe around someone, but her stumbles during that waltz made her feel ashamed. However, Baron never judged her; he simply guided her and said, "Trust me, Haru."
In his eyes she saw only trust, the trust that everything would be alright, the trust of someone who was sure she would return home, but honestly she didn't want to have returned home. Now here was the poor woman alone, tears slowly streaming down her face. Now that story was just a fairy tale, something people only saw in books.

Now here was the poor girl alone, tears slowly streaming down her face. Now that story was just a fairy tale, something people only saw in books.
She didn't want to sleep, she didn't want to think it was all a dream, that wasn't a happy ending for her, Haru never wanted to come back to her boring life, she didn't want to be a joke at school anymore but till the end of high-school she suffered, her mother had been only concerned with her sewing projects for a long time, there were still a good night here and a good morning there, nothing more, she didn't have time for haru anymore.
Her best friend got a boyfriend, now the two lovebirds only live in their own world, Haru is alone and with each passing moment she realizes that little by little she is being forgotten.
like old fairy tales, like the dusty books, forgotten on library shelves, stories that no one remembers.
Haru simply gazed out the window, looking at the stars. She saw a shooting star, and feeling like a child again, she decided to make a wish.
"I wish I could dance with him one more time or forever."
And with that wish, she fell asleep instantly, while the shooting star in the sky twinkled brighter than all the others.
Haru woke from her sleep to the sound of noises outside, sounded like a calm music, just like that night.
-"It can't be... right?" - Haru got out of bed and looked out the window, and again she saw those lights, the same lights from that time.
Gradually she saw the cats walking like humans, that parade of cats, and in the background she saw the damned gray cat that had kidnapped her.
She went out to find out what they wanted from her again, if everything hadn't already been resolved? What more could they possibly want from her? It's been four years since,
Haru went outside this time without fear, since she was at her human size, so for now there wasn't much the cats could do, or at least she thought so.
She stood there watching the cats march to the front of her house, waiting for them to finally stop all that nonsense once again.
When they finally stopped, and the king, who strangely still had the purple jewel on his forehead and all the hair on his body intact, hadn't the baron destroyed the jewel?
When Natori looked at her, his eyes widened as he realized the young woman didn't find all of that strange, but he dismissed it, starting to speak before she interrupted him.
"To what do I owe the magnificent presence of the Cat King?" she teased, anticipating a reaction.
The advisor was startled. It seemed the Cat King's reputation extended even to the human world? How? That's what he was thinking at that very moment.
"It seems the young lady already knows His Majesty, so we can skip the introductions," Natori said at that moment with his ever-present smile.
-"Well... Miss Haru, His Majesty has something to tell you," Natori was about to take a step back to let His Majesty speak.
-"What do you want to tell me? Thank you for saving Prince Lune? Excuse me, Your Majesty, but you have already thanked me more than enough. I don't need a second thank you" - Haru finally interrupted, surprising the other cats present, even the king.
"But miss, what do you mean, a second time? I'm sure we've never visited or spoken to you before. Are you some kind of magician?" - natori was curious, magician were quite rare.
Haru was confused; it was as if the events of last night were happening again, but that would be impossible.
"No, it's impossible, but it would be possible since magic exists, but how?" she thought, trying to understand all the events of the last few minutes, but the pieces didn't fit together; at least, she wasn't able to solve this puzzle.
-'' No 'i'm not a magician if you ask me, I can't even make a feather appear in front of me'' - she tried joking, but the cats didn't catch the joke.
-''Maybe she's a seer! how else would she know our arrival?'' - natoru said loudly.
-''What? No!'' - The girl no longer knew what to do; what was happening?
-"The cat king has something to say to you miss Haru" the advisor announced.
-"Thank you for saving my son babe"
Haru hated being called babe because of him, Natori moved closer to the woman.
"Please accept this gift from His Majesty as thanks for saving His Majesty Prince Lune."
Everything semmed to happen the same as the night when she was younger.

Natori moved closer to the woman.
"Please accept this gift from His Majesty as thanks for saving His Majesty Prince Lune."
Everything semmed to happen the same as the night when she was younger.
-"No, thank you, Your Majesty, I don't know why you came back here but I don't need a reward for something I did four years ago, I don't want rats, or the cat's tail in my frontyard again.
-"I wasjust happy with a thank you and nothing more, i didn't save the prince for a reward, soo if you excuse me good night your majesty" haru get back inside without waiting for the king to talk.
-"what's happening, God I'm gutting crazy that's the only explanation..."
She heard a knock on the door, she looked through the peephole, the cats weren't there anymore, so who knocked on the door? She opened it slowly, the only thing there was the damn paper scroll.
The woman threw the scroll in the trash; she was sure it was just a crazy dream, as if it were all going to happen again. She went back to bed to see if she could wake up from that dream.
Haru got out of bed; it was a Saturday. Her mother had left for a business trip; some client in another country had become interested in the sewing Naoko did. Alone again, she missed Baron. The little time they had spent together was enough for him to steal her heart back in the days, and now she can't fall in love with no one else.
But when she looked out the window, her garden was once again infested with cat tails. It took her hours to pull them out of her yard.
"Ugh! Not again!" Haru would once again have to get rid of those plants. Walking through the field of cat tails, she reached the mailbox. The postman came every Saturday, but when she opened it, all that came out were rats. Haru was no longer scared of them, letting the local cats take care of the pests.
Again she heard the voice asking her to go to the cat bureau; she knew now that the voice belonged to Yuki.
"Again? Yuki it's been so long! do you know what's happening? Because it seems like everything is repeating itself?"
Yuki didn't answer her.
"Seriously? You're going to ignore me?" Again, no one answered her.
Haru went back inside, changed into clothes that made her slender figure striking.
She no longer looked like that young high-school girl, her hair was longer, she was taller, and her tastes changed, she loves tea and many other things changed since that day.
She went to the crossroads, trying to find the fat cat. She went to the café and saw Muta sitting on the same bench.
Getting closer, she nudged the cat. He looked at her with a bored expression.
"Muta, after so long and everything we been through, and this is the look you're giving me?"
The cat's eyes widened in surprise, just as the king's advisor had looked at her.
"How do you know my name? Who cares? You don't even understand me, it must be just a coincidence." The cat simply turned back to his previous position.
"What do you mean, Muta? Of course I understand you! It's like you don't even know me!" Haru was getting angry; it seemed like everyone had forgotten her.
"YOU UNDERSTAND ME?! WAIT, HOW DO YOU KNOW ME?!" The cat was surprised
"Ugh, even you, Muta? Seriously? You know what, please just guide me to the bureau? I need to talk to Baron, something's happening and it seems to have affected you too."
The cat decided to fulfill the girl's request. He was confused as to how a random human knew about the bureau, about him, and about Baron.
He was going fast, just as Haru remembered from years ago, he didn't changed, but that didn't stop her from catching up with him. Since it was the second time, those alleys and curves were already somewhat familiar, and finally they arrived at their destination.
The white cat, still suspicious of the woman, picked up his newspaper. The light show began, but Muta interrupted it.
"Baron, quit with the light show, chick here already knows us somehow, she already knows this is the Bureau."
The light show went out instantly, the doors of the small house opening quickly and the orange cat appearing, looking confused just like Muta was, but not losing his composure. Haru already missed seeing the creation, a part of her happy to see him again, but she needed answers.
"Well, good afternoon, miss, welcome to the Bureau. I am Baron Hum-"
"Baron Humbert Von Gikkingen, yeah, I know, the world must be playing a prank on me"
Baron stared at her with those emerald green eyes, analyzing the elegant woman in front of him.
"PTFF...HAHAHA!" The white cat started laughing.
"Excuse me, miss, Muta, may I know what's so funny?"
"Someone finally interrupted you...you're telling you long title just to be cut off because Chicky here already knows your name, and even she didn't seem impressed with your light show"
Baron simply took a deep breath, ignoring the white cat's teasing, turning his attention back to the girl.
"Well, miss, I'm sorry about my friend back there. It seems you have your questions, and we have ours. You even seem to know what I am."
"Actually, I do know. You and Toto are creations, made by artisans and such..."
Haru hated all of this. Baron and Muta didn't seem to recognize her for some reason she know its been years but shes not that diferent from back then right? Perhaps even Toto wouldn't recognize her. It was as she suspected: either she had gone back in time, or everyone had forgotten her.
"Okay, this is strange, but would you like to get inside, Miss...?" He clearly didn't remember her.
"Haru... Haru Yoshioka, and no, thank you, I don't want to go in. It's probably a little too small for me in there." She hated every second of it, hearing the sound of stones behind her, the crow statue coming to life.
She knew she barely fit in there, she didn't want tea. She just wanted everything to go back to normal but at the same time she didn't, she finally could see and talk to the man who stole her heart once again.
"And before you say anything, no, I don't want tea, thank you very much. I know I seem rude, but I'm not. I apologize in advance, but I'm frustrated with what's happening. I just wanted answers, but it seems you won't have the answers I need."
Baron seemed surprised by such a thing. Now he was the one who needed answers. Who was this lady who knew so much about them? But they knew nothing about her.
"It seems we have an interesting young lady here," the crow looked at her as it perched on her window.
For the first time, Baron didn't know what he was dealing with. This woman was so familiar, as if he had met her before. He noticed that her expression saddened when he asked her name. She seemed to expect him to recognize her, but none of his files included someone named Haru Yoshioka.
But he was sure he hadn't met her at any point in his immortal life, but those chocolate-colored eyes... his thoughts were interrupted when, out of nowhere, a whirlwind of cats surrounded the brown-haired woman.
"NOT AGAIN!" Haru didn't even try to hold onto the doors or the fat cat, because deep down she already expected it, since all the events seemed to be repeating themselves.
Haru was carried away by the cats. Muta, Baron, and Toto saw the scene and immediately sprang into action. Baron grabbed his coat, hat, and cane.
"TOTO!"
"UNDERSTOOD!"
Toto took flight. The orange cat climbed onto the bird and grabbed the white cat with its claws. Muta was about to eat the angel food cake.
"HEY! I WAS ABOUT TO EAT IT!" Muta exclaimed.
"Sorry Muta, but we have more important things to take care of. You can eat later."
They followed the cats; the lady didn't seem surprised to be being led by cats.
"NATORU! I DON'T WANT A REWARD! PLEASE TELL THEM TO SEND ME HOME!"
"But miss, imagine the life you'll have with the prince, a life of comfort, you'll never have to worry about anything again, you'll be the happiest woman in the world!" - the brown cat tried to change her mind.
"But that's not what I want!"
"I'm sure you'll change your mind when we arrive! Your Majesty can't wait for your arrival."
Meanwhile, the crow flew, entering each portal before they closed.
Haru didn't want to go through that again, or whatever was happening. Finally, they arrived at the cat kingdom. This time she was alone; Muta wasn't there with her. Haru didn't lie on the grass like last time; she needed to find a way to reach the tower before it was too late.
She walked everywhere. The local cats were startled by her human appearance. Haru didn't take it to heart; she thought she wasn't that beautiful, but even so, she was a human in a kingdom full of cats. She was the stranger there, trying to escape Natoru, who was probably looking for her.
She wasn't very lucky, as the brown cat found her quickly, giving her little choice and dragging her to the palace against her will.
Baron watched the situation from afar, knowing very well when not to interfere in the king's affairs, but he knew he had to intervene somehow.
Haru was taken to the palace, guided to the room where Muta had been trapped inside the catnip jar, bringing back bad memories since she had thought the fat cat had died.
But again, she was dragged to be put into that yellow dress she hated.
"Wow, how beautiful she is, I bet she would look dazzling in a light green dress" one of the maids whispered to the other, but Haru didn't believe such words.
Before she knew it, she was wearing a wine-red satin dress, the bodice of the dress was heart-shaped, the skirt went to the floor like a waterfall, with sparkling details and some parts studded with diamonds and rubies, white satin gloves that went halfway up her arms, a beautiful shimmering necklace compared to that one in the shape of a fish, and on her head they placed a crown worthy of a princess, but she knew that the title of princess was not for her.
When she looked again, she was already transforming into a cat, but for some reason, this time her hands were still human. She could feel the claws beneath the delicate fabric, and she still had her feet. She was wearing high heels. Where did all this come from? The vision in the mirror was different from the first time; she was no longer that girl, now she was an elegant woman, a cat, but still and elegant lady.
''Ah, here is my future daughter-in-law, my, how stunning you are!" - the cat king appeared out of nowhere, those eyes bothered her, he was someone she never wanted to see again.
"Your Majesty," Haru bowed, she didn't like him but she still had manners, he was the king, one wrong word and he could have her executed.
"I see that our thanks in the human world did not satisfy you, babe, so we decided that you will be my son's bride, I can already imagine you as queen in the future."
Haru hated this thought; all she wanted was to leave and find out if Baron and the others had followed her, just like last time. She didn't know if she could get out of this situation alone.
All the events were the same as last time, except this time she didn't cry; she just waited.
The ball happened again, and again she wasn't happy. The king did everything to make her happy, but nothing worked. The king was already angry; no one could make the lady smile.
"NO ONE CAN MAKE MY FUTURE DAUGHTER-IN-LAW SMILE! WHAT KIND OF ENTERTAINERS ARE YOU?!" the king roared angrily. None of the entertainers took a step forward, only the masked gentleman whom Haru loved so much.
"May I have this dance?" - He extended his hand and invited the woman to dance; this was the moment Haru had longed for, to dance with Baron, even if it was just one last time.
Haru's heart was beating faster than ever before; her wish was coming true.
The music began, and the two glided across the hall as if flying, how she's dancing like a professional you ask? She danced the waltz alone in the living room for years, imagining this exact moment with Baron, Haru stared into those eyes.
"Miss Yoshioka, we have much to discuss, but first we need to get you out of here."
"I know, Baron... just let me enjoy this moment a little longer..." She wanted to cry. This wasn't the Baron she had fallen in love with; he was a stranger who didn't even know her. This Baron called her Miss Yoshioka, not Miss Haru.
"Miss, I'm sorry, but you always seem sad when you look at me." Baron couldn't take his eyes off the lady. Those sparkling eyes wanted to tell him something. Those eyes weren't made to look empty like that; something was missing from them, but what? Besides beauty, the woman danced with him as if she already knew the next steps. They were in a synchronicity that Baron had never felt before.
Until the moment the dance was interrupted and the whole hall descended into chaos, just like years ago, Haru was quicker, remembering the secret passage, taking Baron's hand and leading him to the passage without warning.
"Wait, Miss, what are you doing?!" Baron didn't remember ever meeting a girl like that, and without warning, the two descended through the tube below. Baron was confused.
"I know you want to talk, but we don't have time. If we want to get out of here, we have to get to the top of that tower before sunset." Haru pointed in the direction. Baron didn't understand how she knew that, he thought only the local cats knew it.
"I know a faster way," the labyrinth would take him too long even if they went over the walls.
The orange cat whistled as loudly as he could, and in the background the crow was coming towards him.
"Which way, Baron?" Toto landed, waiting for the two to climb up. Baron, without wasting any time, like a gentleman, helped Haru up.
"Why, thank you, Baron." Haru was blushing; luckily, some of the fur on his face hid the pink.
Baron climbed up right after.
"Toto, to the top of the tower to the north. We need to get there before sunset."
Toto flew in the velocity of a thunder, they were getting closer to the tower faster than they expected.
"Where is Muta Baron?" the bird asked.
"Taking care of the guards in the hall, he'll join us soon." Haru had no idea how Baron did these things; she knew he had magic, but she didn't know how much he knew about it.
Haru hadn't even noticed that Baron had gotten rid of the costume; she would never understand how he did it. She, on the other hand, was still in her red dress.
"We're almost there—AH!"
—"TOTO!" they both shouted. The crow had been hit by an arrow, knocking the poor bird down and both of them along with it.
Luckily, they weren't very far from the ground, falling and only suffering a few scratches compared to their feathered friend.
—"Toto! Please answer me!" Baron didn't want his friend to get hurt.
—"I hear you, Baron. I'm sorry for letting you both fall."
—"Don't say that. It wasn't your fault. You were shot in the wing. You could never fly like that."
Haru approached. She didn't know that creatures bled, but she put that aside. She couldn't see the crow like that. What she could at least do was stop the bleeding.
"Haru, we have to remove the arrow. We don't know if it's poisoned. Try to find something to bandage Toto's wing with."
"Okay!" Haru couldn't bear to see the crow suffer like that.
"Toto, this is going to hurt, on three...one...two...THREE!" He pulled out the arrow.
The crow stifled a cry of pain, and Baron pressed his hand against the wound, listening to the sound of cloth being torn behind him. When he turned, he saw Haru tearing the skirt of the beautiful dress, plucking the precious stones from the fabric, and handing it to Baron so he could tie it around Toto's wing.
"Thank you," the cat lord said without a second thought, going to work.
They wouldn't have time to return to the human world in time, but Haru no longer wanted to go home. No one was waiting for her there; she practically lived alone at this point.
"Miss Yoshioka, if you hurry, you might still have a chance to become human again. We'll be left behind. Come on, hurry!"
Haru couldn't believe the words Baron had just spoken.
"Do you really think I'm going to leave you here alone against a horde of soldiers who may be on their way, and abandon you and the wounded Toto? I would never rather lose my humanity than leave you behind."
Baron was impressed and grateful. Would a young woman sacrifice her return home just to avoid leaving them alone? In all their adventures, this was the first time someone hadn't chosen themselves, and this wasn't the first time one of them had been injured on a mission.
"Thank you, Miss Yoshioka..." For the first time, Haru saw Baron smile.
"Please just call me Haru, not Yoshioka, Baron... you never called me that," she whispered the last part, but Baron heard her.
-"Miss...Haru, just one question, have we already—"
-"BARON!" Muta shouted from the background, running towards them.
The soldiers and the king were behind Muta.
-"WHAT HAPPENED?! TOTO FINALLY BECAME CHICKEN ON A SPIT?!"
-"Muta! This is no time for jokes!"
The soldiers had caught up with them, surrounding them.
-"AHA, now you won't escape! Where do you think you're going with my future daughter-in-law?!"
-"Your Majesty, I apologize for the intrusion, but have you considered asking if your son, the prince, is interested in marrying the girl?" Baron didn't leave Toto's side for a moment.
-"Is it necessary? Of course she wants to, what wouldn't a girl give to marry Lune and become a princess!"
-"I would give anything not to marry him!" Haru was angry; she didn't want any of this.
"Father!" someone called in the background. The king looked up and Lune appeared.
"Lune, right now! I was about to speak with your fiancée and—"
"Fiancée? Father, you didn't even know if I wanted to get married, but no, Father, I already have a fiancée! And... you hurt one of them, Father!" Lune saw the state Toto was in.
"Wait... you already have a fiancée!? Who!?"
"Wait just a minute, she's arriving. I'm sorry for what my father has done to you. I'll call a healer to help your friend..."
A white petite cat appeared running.
-"Lune! I came as fast as possible!"
-"Ah Yuki, my love, at the right time, father, meet my fiancée Yuki!"
-"But...but what about Haru? She was already promised to you, we even had a ball!"
-"I'm sorry, father, but I love Yuki, and...I'm sure Haru never wanted any of this from the beginning, right, Miss Haru?"
-"Yes, Prince Lune, I never wanted to marry you!"
-"But you're such a babe, it would be a waste after so many celebrations not to marry anyone. I know, since you won't marry Lune, you will be my wife, That way you won't be a princess, but a queen!"
Imagine what a beautiful litter of kittens we would have, I bet you would be a great mother."
Haru wanted to vomit; the king wasn't giving her a school, he was ordering her around. The world around her was spinning.
Everyone was horrified by such a thing.
"I'M GOING TO PUT THAT BAG OF FLEAS IN HIS PLACE JUST FOR SAYING THAT!" Muta didn't know much about the woman, but he knew this was too much.
"Father! You can't do this!" Lune tried to reason with her father.
"Your Majesty, I'm sorry, but you can't do this to Miss Haru."
"I can, and I will! I am the KING!"
Lune didn't know what to do, his father lost his mind.
"If that's the case, I challenge you to a duel, Your Majesty, a duel for the hand of Miss Haru," Baron said without hesitation.
"Ugh! FINE!," he said, grabbing the swords of two soldiers near him and throwing one of them at the baron's feet.
Haru didn't know how to react. A duel for her hand? Anyway, she hoped Baron would win; she didn't want to be anywhere near that old cat anymore.
They both took their positions.
"Let the duel begin!" the king announced.
The king advanced, but Baron was faster, dodging and attacking before the king could react. He leaped over the king and elegantly swung his sword.
When everyone least expected it, the stone on the old cat king's forehead shattered, and his fur fell out. He had lost the duel.
-"Baron is the WINNER!" Announced Lune.
Haru blushed but was happy. Baron returned to his friends' side, dropping his sword halfway there.
The king was strangely quiet; everyone thought he was still accepting defeat.
"Thank you, Baron..." Haru didn't know what to say. Baron smiled at her.
"Father? Are you alright?" the prince asked the king.
"I...I always...I ALWAYS GET WHAT I WANT!" The cat king stood up, grabbing his sword once more, this time not going towards Baron. No one had time to react.
"HARU!!" was all she heard before feeling a sharp pain that made her vision go white.
She felt a warm liquid trickle down her cheeks, and at the same time, the same liquid stained Yuki's once snow-white fur, turning it a dark red.
"IF I CAN'T HAVE WHAT I WANT! NO ON WILL"
The cat king had just impaled the poor woman in the heart with his sword.
"TAKE MY FATHER AWAY FROM HERE! HE'S LOST HIS MIND! AND BRING THE HEALER IMMEDIATELY! USE TELEPORTATION MAGIC IF NECESSARY!" Lune seemed like the true king in this situation.
Haru fell to her knees. Baron caught her in his arms before she hit the ground, still with the sword in her chest.
She only saw red: her dress, the satin gloves, once pearly white, now blood red, that sword piercing her chest. She felt only pain. She hadn't expected this. Falling into Baron's arms was what she wanted, but not like this. It hurts, Haru only saw blurry figures, everything was muffled, it felt like she was underwater, she wanted to sleep, but the voices told her to stay awake.
"Haru! HARU, DON'T CLOSE YOUR EYES, PLEASE!" Baron pleaded. Yuki cried in the background. Lune tried to maintain her composure as a leader. Muta didn't know what to do besides stay by the side of the unconscious bird.
The gray cat being carried away. So many things were happening.
"HARU YOU NEED TO HANDLE A LITTLE BIT MORE, HELP IS COMING, FOLLOW MY VOICE AND DON'T CLOSE YOUR EYES!"
Haru couldn't anymore; the pain was too much. She could feel her heart giving up on her, she didn't want to die, but world said otherwise.
-"Y-You may not the Baron I knew, but I n-need to tell you something..." Haru whispered having no stamina to do more.
-"Haru... what do you mean by that?" Baron was confused and worried.
-"I-I...- she was interrupted by coughing blood.
-"Haru! DONT CLOSE YOUR EYES! HARU! Baron called for her but she could fell her life leaving her and with that she gave one last breath and closing her eyes forever, never getting the chance to confess her true felling for the man she loved for so long..
