Work Text:
The day was cold, a harsh wind rattling the walls from the outside, as Megumi lay, shivering despite the layers of blankets he wore. He glanced upon his deathly pale skin, feeling far too weak to get out from bed. A loud bang startled him into a sitting position, and a blinding light poured into the room from the door, blocked only by the silhouette of a male, who’s face changed from one of joy to one of confusion at Megumi’s pathetic state. Megumi groaned and laid back down, covering his eyes from the light.
“Yuuji… get out..” He mumbled, pulling the sheets over his eyes to block the light. Out of respect for his eyes, Yuuji quickly pulled the door shut, approaching the end of the bed, gently sitting down on the edge.
“Megumi… you look like shit!” Yuuji announced, scooting over to sit closer to Megumi, putting the back of his hand against his forehead. “And you’re as hot as hell, i’m shocked you aren’t on fire!” Megumi grimaces, covering his ears from Yuuji’s piercing tone. He was in a cold sweat, his head pulsing with pain, his stomach wrenched with nausea. Struggling to speak, he manages to grunt out a sentence.
“You.. think i’m hot?”
“Megumi! Now is not the time for that!” Megumi laughed softly, before groaning in distress, his stomach twisting. Yuuji shook his head, opening the cupboard, pulling a few more blankets out. “It’s settled. I’m not letting you suffer.” Gently, he threw the blankets over Megumi, tucking him in. “And i’m making you soup.” Protesting weakly, he sat up, pulling the blankets up with him, using his pillows as back support. Yuuji got to fast work in the kitchen, taking any ingredient he could find in the fairly barebones cabinets. Much to Megumi’s surprise, and despite how little he had to work with, he managed to whip up something fairly edible looking, using spring onions, noodles, chicken, and a few herbs and spices. He had hardly realised how ravenous he was, his stomach rumbling angrily at him. Yuuji squatted beside the bed, lifting a spoonful to Megumi’s mouth.
“Open up!” Demanded Yuuji, and Megumi parted his lips, spoon swiftly shoved into his mouth, and he swallowed hard. A warmth seeping through his skin, and for the first time since he fell ill, he felt the cold leave his body. He sighed in contentment, finding himself yearning for another mouthful.
“Yuuji, you’re actually…”
“A great cook? I know.” He said proudly, his smile prideful. Megumi shook his head, but he agreed with Yuuji, it must’ve been the nicest soup he’d had in a long time.
“Thank you.” He sighed, his gaze fixed on Yuuji’s eyes, of which were focused on Megumi’s lips.
“You’re welcome.“ Yuuji nodded, feeding him the last few spoonfuls of soup. “Tea?” He offered, already filling the kettle. He nodded a yes. As the minutes ticked by, he was more and more glad for Yuuji’s company, knowing he’d still be a shivering, sneezing mess if not for his intervention. He was swiftly served a cup of steaming green tea, Yuuji sliding the cup onto his bedside table. Gratefully, Megumi took a long sip, gulping it down. The cup soon ran empty, and he placed it back down. Yuuji was staring intently at him, as if he was waiting for something. Sighing deeply, he shuffled over to give Yuuji room to sit beside him. He hopped into the bed without hesitation, pulling the sheets back over Megumi’s legs. Appreciating the warmth seeping from him, Megumi moved in closer, trying not to be too obvious about it. Yuuji put an arm around his waist, pressing a kiss to his cheek. “You just get some rest, Megumi.” He sighed, pulling them both down to lay. Holding Megumi in his arms, he watched as his eyes fluttered shut, and his heartbeat slowed, falling asleep in his arms.
