Shovel Knight: Tinker of Steel

Summary:

after a nice evening with his wife, Cyborg Knight, Tinker wakes up to find out somthing surprising

Notes:

my other two fics Shovel Knight: Fait of The Order and Mind of the Hunted could be seen as prequels, but they really just help people understand Cyborg as a character more.

Chapter 1: prolog

Chapter Text

Durning a lukewarm morning, Tinker was working away, working on another back brace for Cyborg after her last broke. He was running off of worry, coffee, and excitement. Cyborg sat in a comforter next to his work table, her hand on her stomach as she vented about having 100 extra pounds on her.

“I mean-! you did you even knock me up with quintuplets!” she yelled as she waved her hand, before adding “And each of the damn little melons weigh 20 pounds each!!!” Cyborg yelled as she stood up before she lost her footing and almost fell, catching herself on the workable.

“Woah woah! calm down Silvara, just sit back down before I get your brace done” Tinker said as he helped Cyborg sit back down, hearing her curse and groan into her hands, Tinker looked over at Cyborg as she glared at him.

“God damnit…I hate you sometimes!” Cyborg grumbled as she fixed her maternity dress, before adding “...You're making me some tea…” she said as Tinker finished up her back brace. putting it on her, screwing it in, then putting on her pregnancy brace and tightened the straps enough so it took pressure off her back…

“Thank you love…” Cyborg mumbled as she held her belly and walked over to the bedroom, laying down in bed and calling out "Tinker! Get in here!"

“Wha-?! huh? something wrong?” Tinker asked as he ran in.

“No, I want cuddles.” Cyborg said as she sat up in bed, she looked so soft and friendly like this, to Tinker, she could never do anything wrong…

“Fine, but in 20 minutes, then I'm getting back to work,” Tinker said as he walked towards the bed, removing his gloves and boots before sitting down on it, his head resting on Cyborg's stomach

“How about we make it 30?” Cyborg mumbled, reaching over and pulling Tinker close, holding him like a personal plushie.

“No, keep it 20"

“25?”

“Fine! fine" Tinker said as he laid down next to her, removing his helmet and nuzzling his face in her hair.

“You enjoy my presence, don't ya?

“Of course i do,” Tinker mumbled as he scooted down and placed a hand on Cyborg's stomach, sighing out a laugh as he felt the babies kick. "Hehe...it's like they know it's me." he added as he rested the side of his head on her shoulder.

“I hate it when they kick” Cyborg mumbled as she played with his hair, the short locks falling through her metal fingers, a weary smile on her face before it fell as a sharp kick shook her, she felt exhausted, so tired that she wanted to sob, she was cramping, and she just felt like passing out. She didn't even realize that she was crying till Tinker helped her sit up and grab things to make her more comfortable.

“d-dear! I'll get you some tea, ok?” Tinker yelled from the kitchen.

“...Tinker…” Cyborg mumbled through tears, and as expected, he came rushing back in.

“yea?!”

“How much longer until this is over...?" Cyborg whined as she gripped the bed sheets.

"Not much longer...probably two weeks at most?" Tinker said as he rubbed her back, his fingers rubbing against the cool metal of her metallic spine.

"...Thank god" Cyborg mumbled as she rested her arm across her eyes before whipping away her tears, calming down a little as Tinker planted a kiss in her cheek, having to stand on his tippy toes to reach her.

A bit later, Tinker worked in the nursery, finishing up making the cribs as he sipped on some tea. Green wasn't his favorite, but he didn't want to waste any. Tinker was tired, probably nowhere near Cyborg, but still wanted to sleep. Tinker finished working and walked towards the upstairs, stopping to make some pasta first, eating alone at the table and taking a moment to think, he'd been feeling lonely, Cyborg being mostly in bed, and the members of the Order settling down like him, planning family, the idea that all of this was happening after…everything that happened, it was oddly nice. Then he thought about how full the place would be, 5 kids…christ, this old Clocktower would be full…it was something nice to think about as he got undressed and climbed into bed with Cyborg…

…But, as he woke up the next morning…he was alone, thoughtfully alone…his beloved was gone…along with his unborn children.

“No…No No NO!” Tinker yelled as he ran around the tower, trying to find Cyborg. He paused running into the nursery, seeing the home empty…it made him break down, he sat against the wall, sliding down and hiding his face in his hands as he started crying, that broken glass clock, the one that led into the upper entrance, they must of gotten in through there. Tinker stood up and ran to his workbench, flipping to that page, and started working, building a new device before he cursed, grabbed his Mobile Gear and got dressed, before riding down from the Clockwork Tower.
