Chapter 1: Falling

Chapter Text

Alex ripped a hole in the hero's neck with their teeth, growling. It was a delightful fight so far, but it was getting boring. With a punch, they remove a person's chest. They knew a portal was opening, but they didn't interfere. They laughed, prideful in a way only someone with their record can get. Then they got sucked into a black hole.

Black void. It filled her vision. The only way she knew she was not in true void was because she could hear the singing of magic nearby. Her eyes lazily tracked along the familiar ink, the shape of glass into somewhere else. She recalled what led her to be here. She wanted to get away from it all, she had a fight with her girlfriend. She ran, like usual. Sighing, she pulls her body back together.

She wandered through the 'halls'. The glass that littered the place was organized, but barely. She wandered for a while. Then someone entered. Her senses immediately screamed something was wrong. She searched the black with her eyes, then floated to the intruder.

Alex was shoved into blackness. They felt their powers shut off, as if something was overwhelming them. They fought with their own power, but whatever surrounded them pushed back, just enough to keep them contained. It shocked them. They push back again, harder this time. It rubber banded back after they let up the pressure, sending a shock of—electricity? Magic?—some kind of energy that stung all throughout their body.

It burned, a kind of burn they weren't used to. Something in here was powerful enough to hurt them, and only by accident. The pain had receded almost immediately. It almost felt disrespectful, like it was just an accident they got hurt. Then someone was lightly touching them and murmuring.

She ran her fingers gently along their spirit lines, if they tried to fight it again, they might cause real damage. She blessed the lines, carefully, with regard for the fragility of humans. She's been away from any of her bodies for too long, she's already forgotten her limits. She then gives them the smallest luck blessing, but pulling back when she notices the already natural luck. She sends them out of the empty space, back to their home and falling through behind them.

Alex fell through the hole that had suddenly opened up and landed in the middle of a freezing cold desert. They teleported themself immediately to Morgan's apartment. Morgan themself was nowhere to be seen. They call out, "Morgan?" No one answered.

They walked through the hallway, opening the door to their shared bedroom. On the bed was Morgan, sleeping peacefully. Strange, but they've been trying to bully Morgan into sleeping better. Sighing, they laid in bed next to them. They pulled out their phone so they could idly scroll.

On the phone screen, the time 2:41 glows back at them. No wonder Morgan was asleep. Wait, how long were they gone?
